Mornin' All!

Lauren/future real estate agent ~ question for 'ya... aren't the agents supposed to be more on top of scheduling these things???
If I was your agent, yeah, I'd make sure it all went smoothly! I know my agent will be on top of that. I would stay on her. Did you use her for both houses? I would tell her that you absolutely must have access to the new house by 1:00 or something, this way you don't have to worry about wasted money. I'm guessing that probably should've been in the contract or something. When my mom & I moved from our old house to this one, the people that were moving in turned into monsters. Mom considered the fridge went with the house, but the buyers had their own and insisted that we take it. They also insisted that we take the HUGE chest freezer in the basement, along with a couple storage cabinets down there that were there when we moved in!! It was a horrible experience. They wouldn't even let us leave it at the curb for the garbage men to pick up. We had to give the neighbor lady $100 to give the men that were coming to take it at her curb!
Anyway, lesson learned, make sure EVERYTHING is in the contract, or at least in writing before closing.

Good Morning!!!

That 's no fun.... When I think back to when we bought our house... I feel bad because I had an apartment, hubby still lived at home, so we really had no hurry to move but... we had the truck ready to move in before the signing and it ended up that we were moving in and they were still moving out... why didn't we give them a couple of hours???? I know we were excited but we still could have waited.... oh well, lesson learned.....

I hope I never have to move again... we're finally getting our house the way we want it. We've redone almost our whole house... last year was the kitchen, this year we are having a deck put on the back of our house starting Monday..... i'm so excited!!!! We used to have a concrete patio on the side of our house, they ripped that out yesterday so it's a bit of a mess right now but it won't be long now and I'll be relaxing on my wrap around deck with an iced tea in hand!!!

Mornin' Gals!

Lauren, thanks for the good advice. *Now* I realize that *everything* needs to be written into the contract. Obviously, the gal that is buying our home did that as she is to take possession by 5:00 p.m. What is irritating me is that I *repeatedly* asked my realtor how this day was supposed to play out. I told her that it seemed like too much to do in too little of time. She kept blowing me off by saying that this is the way that it's always done and "everything sorta works itself out in the end." Like an idiot, I figured that she knew what she was talking about and that is why we're paying her a commission. I now know that we needed to be more firm and on top of things. As Mary said, lesson learned... We're flying to FL tomorrow a.m. and I am so in need of some down time. I've packed up 5 books and can't wait to kick back and relax. We stay right on the beach and our biggest decision each day is what to eat for the next meal:-). We'll go to SeaWorld one day but that rest of the time we just play around on the beach. I can't wait!

Lauren, Mary, MO, RR, GG, KarenK, Lisa, Hanna, Sheila, 4me, Kerri, and everyone else that I'm forgetting Happy Weekend!!! I'll probably be out of touch for a while. DH is taking his laptop for work but I probably won't be messing with the computer. Later Gators ~ Joan

Oh Joan, that sounds sooo relaxing!! I LOVE the ocean...well, at least watching/listening to it...not actually swimming in it. Have an awesome time and try not to concern yourself with house stuff!

Mary, your house sounds wonderfully relaxing! I'd love to see pics, if you want to post them...I'm looking for ideas!

morning all..was a busy morning at work...but the "rush" has died down now. So just waiting til 2 and hoping no emergencies walk in the door. I'm planning to go ride my horse right after work..which probably will be hotter than haitis since it will be 2 and its suppose to be 95 today. But i have plans tonight and wasn't able to go last night because of an emergency I was actually good today. I woke up for work and was craving junk food. I thought a Chik-fil-a egg/chicken burrito sounded great. But then i convinced myself to have my yogart instead and stopped at the store before work for a lean cuisine to eat at lunch (instead of fast food). So i was proud even though i was craving junk food.
joan - you relator does sound like a bit of an idiot. I'm glad i have DH...he's made sure every thing is in writing. You definately have to be very very specific.,..for example in our contract we wanted one trim piece replaced (since it was rotting) and we specified that it should be replaced and repainted to match the existing paint. You definately have to be very very anal when it comes to that stuff. BTW have fun in Florida..i miss the beach. I might be going home in a month or so to visit my sick gd...but i definately plan to make it at least a few hours to the beach...i grew up in the panhandle of florida and love the beach.
oh and btw...my house also has a screened in porch in the back. And FYI..the house looks HUGE but its actually less than 1400 sq ft. But who cares...it looks great...we just may have to get rid of some furniture when we move in...but that's ok...i don't mind!
alright guess i'm out of here...by everyone else..have a great weekend!!!!!

Joan~What could happen if you are not out of the house by 5?? Getting everything moved out and then cleaning up sounds tough. Have you thought about hiring a cleaning service? I use a cleaning service everytime we move. One less thing to stress about.

(Friday)
Good news: My friends talked me into going to the gym on Friday and then we went to a movie after shopping all day.
Bad news: We then went out to eat and ate nachos and popcorn at the movies.

Today we had my son's tenth b-day party. It's not until the 19th but his two best friends are leaving before then. One is moving and the other is going on vacation. We were running around this morning buying gifts. Went to Mcd's for lunch. Then had cake. Then went to subway for dinner. I feel like a . That's okay because tomorrow I will start fresh. I will not use this as an excuse to eat bad tomorrow as well and say "I will start Monday" like I always do. ***if I write it, I sound more convincing**....but this is what I'm really thinking ...So this is what I'm thinking of doing

It's getting late so I will chat later.

Mornin' All!

Sherry, wow, you're good, technically a house only has to be "broom clean" when you move out! Of course, DH & I will be doing tons when we move out of mom's house...we already pulled the wallpaper off the br wall, need to wash them down, prime and pain the whole room, paint the hall and stairway walls, paint the LR, wash down the walls in the bathroom and kitchen. Plus mom wants DH to paint her BR and guest room before we move! He's still got to finish her kitchen, today hopefully. Poor guy.

GG, good for you, beating the craving!!

Lots of stuff to do today...see ya'!

I have never owned a house before...we have only rented or lived in base housing and they are really strict on the cleaning part. I guess so the next family can move right in. The next time we move we are buying so I can figure all this out then. I have been taking notes on what everyone here is talking about .....the good....the bad.....and the realtor.

Hello! Whew, busy weekend here. We took the kids to S. Jersey to a Celtic Festival. The festival was teeny! It wasn't really worth the 2 1/2 hour ride down. We decided to check out the ferry that goes from Jersey to Delaware. Hah! They wanted $70 for a roundtrip ticket! No way! We drove around and found a place to eat. Way overpriced mediocre food. I guess that's what happens in a beach town in the summer.

Hope everyone is having a super duper weekend!! We are watching Night at the Museum.

Holy Cow Karen!! Was that to take the car on too? Do you know that if you just park and go on the ferry, there's a shuttle bus that takes you around to the 3 different outlet malls for just like $2-3? I know it's still not that cheap for the ferry, but it's a nice 70 minutes ride over, if you like that kind of thing. Gramps used to take us every summer, just to take the ride over and back...not even get off the ferry. It was nice though...sometimes we even saw dauphins!

HELLO every one!
Joan sorry to hear about all the stuff that is going go with the house, too bad you had such a BAD realtor. She should've known better. Oh well, at this point there is no much you can change unfortunately, put it behind you as a bad experience and don't send her any referrals.

Lauren wow you guys are very busy too, how long did you stay with your patents? It must be a great feeling to get your own home!!!! I am so happy for you!

Karen that does sound a little too much $70 round trip

GG it is great to have all this information, bus sounds like you have all the ducks in a row! that is good! When we bought the house we actually rented the house we were in for another 2 weeks, so the moving of one into the other overlapped, that was a great thing we were able to do, if you can afford it it is a great idea. It was for us.

Yesterday we went to the Del Mar Fail (San Diego Fair) it was great! I HAD to eat fair food we are not going to be able to go back, we are pretty busy this year, we usually go several times, but the the surgery being so close there are a lot of things I need to do before, I am getting very nervous about it, specially the knowing it is such a long recovery. I am thinking of calling my mother tonight, I know she is not working right now, my aunt told me she lost her job, so maybe she can come and actually help, it would be nice to have someone here all day long, just knowing she is here to receive DS from school and watching play outside, but I am afraid to even consider it, as I know how much trouble she causes every time she has been here, she is a very unhappy woman, one of those people that nothing pleases her. I will share with you is I did call her. I don't know if I can do it! just to think about it my stomach turns.

Today I put out the big water slide out and the neighbors were all here in their bathing suits, but the thing was just too worn out, I guess from being left outside in the sun, so they couldn't use it, I called Wal-Mart where we bought it and they wouldn't take it back, because it was over 90 days since we did, so I called another store and they were great, they gave me my $ back! I am looking for another one to buy they were out of them, or I would've gotten it then.

I have no idea what I am going to do for dinner. DS has to be in bed by 7:00 PM sharp, the driver is picking him up tomorrow morning at 7:00 to be at the new school at 8:00 AM that means we have to get him out of bed by 6:15 at the latest. I have to go get things ready for him! I will catch up tomorrow!

Have a great evening!

Hanna
