Default A cheese tragedy!

I just realized I haven't been using reduced-fat cheeses. There is only ONE kind of reduced-fat cheese carried at our commissary and it's the Mexican blend by Sargento, so I obviously can't use it for everything. The mozzerella says "part skim" and I thought that was reduced-fat but now I don't know since I saw this other one and it was labelled "reduced fat".

What should I do? Use less of the regular kind? Keep cheese out of the recipes altogether?

Why am I always having tragedies? Help!

This is something I didn't really go "low fat" on and I am still loosing. I do keep it to a minimum though.

Tara, I use the part-skim mozzarella all the time, it's better than using the whole milk mozzarella. As for only having the Mexican cheese blend available in reduced-fat, I would just use that in anything I want cheese for.
Do you use cream cheese? If so, buy the Neufchatel cream cheese since it has 1/3 less fat than regular. Lowfat or fat-free cream cheese isn't always available, and I think neufchatel tastes better, anyway.

Thanks for the reassurance, ladies!

I do prefer the Neufchatel cream cheese, Cottage! Although since I detest celery, I won't be using any of it until I can find some whole wheat bagels on Phase 3 I guess...

as long as the cheese is 6g of fat or less per 1 oz serving you are ok.

we use regular feta but it's only 4g per serving and part skim ricotta and mozz cheeses are also under 6g per serving as is regular sizes of american cheese...

I go by the fat content as well and have found that some w/out low-fat labels are OK.

I tried the FF feta and it was nasty! I'd rather use the real thing and use less. Do watch the cheese tho - its easy to eat it morning noon and night.

I don't buy reduced fat mainly because of the price and i'm still losing. I do use mozzerella most of the time and when i need to use others i make sure to watch the portion.

Oooh, thanks for the tip on the fat content per portion size! I'll go by that instead.

Sue, I'm surprised you didn't like the fat free feta. I just got some and thought it was great! I bought the President brand crumbled fat free feta. We all have different tastes!

Cheese does rock!

I just looked at all the nutrition labels and they're all 6 g of fat or less per ounce, so the tragedy has sizzled into just another freak out!
