Default New to calorie counting...

Hi everyone! I officially started my calorie counting a few days ago, and I have to say... I really like it so far. I have never given it a try because I've heard horror stories about being hungry all the time, but that is not the case so far. I've tried probably ever diet out there, my favorites were low carb since you tend to lose quickly on that....but I've realized I can't stick to those long term and I need something I can do for life!
I'm just under 5'7 and after coming close to having an emotional breakdown, I realized I have to do something. So here I am. I usually eat anywhere from 1200 to 1500 calories a day...I actually thought it would take more than that to fill me up. I eat a good breakfast everyday, plenty of fruit and veggies all through the day, drink TONS of water and diet dr pepper or coca cola zero when I just have to have a soda. If I see that my calories are too low, I usually add a boiled egg or peanut butter in the evening to give me a little boost. Any tips, idea's would be greatly appreciated. Thanks![/FONT]

Hi!!! I love calorie counting. I think it's the most sensible, doable "diet" out there. Since it's really not a "diet", but a lifestyle. Something that can be done forever. I use my calorie allotment on mainly veggies, low fat protein and high fiber cereal. Just wondering, how are you tracking your calories? Because they do have a way of sneaking up on us. So, the only tip I have is to track them to see just how many you are eating. Either in a simple notebook or an online calorie tracker such as Fitday.com. Good luck!

Hi,
I have never posted on this forum, but I counted calories about 3 or 4 years ago and had great success. I liked it the most because I didn't really have to change what I was eating, I was just more sensable about it. I kept a notebook and calculator in the kitchen and tracked everything I ate. I kept a stack of "cheatsheets" in a drawer, so if something didn't have a calorie count on it I could look it up right there and didn't have to worry about going to the computer. Good luck!

I use fitday...I have used it for years now and totally love it. I do not eat anything unless I know the calories so I leave no room for calories sneaking up on me And I track everything, even the vitamins I take and fresh lemon juice in my water. For the past 2 days my calories seem to be getting lower since my appetite is decreasing, I just had an apple with some peanut butter to give me a little boost in my calories to keep them from being so low. Thanks ladies, I look forward to chatting with you all and losing this darn weight!

Amen to that d2s!

I swear by calorie counting myself. It helped me take off 102 pounds and keep them off for 2 1/2 years. Eat less, move more...sounds too simple. Well - it isn't easy. But it is simple.

I have been on mamy diets and had to pay a lot of money for some of them,,,then one day a light dawned, calorie counting is free !!! In addition IMO, it is a healthy way and easy, I don't understand why some people think it is hard. It does take a little planning, but doesn't everything? It takes me about 5 minutes to plan my meals for the following day.
