Hi there - as I know a number of you have kids I wondered if you could recommend any book that deals with young school age kids who have fair weather friends. My friends little girl is devastated that her 'best freind' is no longer her friend and took great delight (aren't girls horrible!) in reading out a list of those going to her birthday which did not include her (although she has already been invited to my friend's girl's birthday).

Obviously her mum has talked to her about this but I think if there was a story that included things like that it might be helpful to her - she is around 5 years old.


Any recommendations for books? (I have already suggested that when the little b*tch comes to her birthday - my friend drags her by the hair and pushes her head down the loo and flushes it - but perhaps not a good idea so we should go down the book route.......

I am awful! (remembering my own unhappy school days) and also not had kids myself. My friend's little girl has a birthday this week and the ex friend has been invited so it may all end happily and they become friends again - who knows! When you are that small - it is very traumatic though!

Kids can be mean. It breaks your heart.

I suppose it's life lessons that we all go through but try explaining that to a 5 year old.

It'll all probably resolve itself very quickly - but its a good idea to encourage her to get a group of friends rather than relying on one 'fair weather' friend.

It doesn't get any better the older they get either, my dd is 13 and its a nightmare!!!!

Tracy- yes I warned her mother she would go through worse when her little girl dates!!!!


Sarahann - yes, that would be ideal but I think most little girls crave a best friend. That's the difference between girls and boys (one of them!!!). Boys can join a group but girls are more cliquey.
