Unhappy I'm a little scared

hi to all, I just turned 24 and was just diagnosed yesterday with this disease PCOS. and I'm leaving the US in four days. I am very very very scared because I don't know what this means and what I should expect. Will I eventually get cancer and die? Can someone please help me. I have no one to talk to right now. I can't tell my mother how I feel because I'll worry her and since I'm gonna be gone out of the country for close to a year, it would just worry her even more. I thank GOd I found this forum. Please help me. And if possible, please put my mind at ease.
thank you.

OK, first you need to do some reading...

http://www.youngwomenshealth.org/pcosinfo.html
http://www.pcosupport.org/
http://www.inciid.org/faq.php?cat=infertility101&id=2

Then, read around this board.

Finally - take a deep breath. PCOS can usually be managed, and I don't know of any PROVEN PCOS/Cancer correlation except that of endometrial cancer, for which rates for women with PCOS are high, but which is fairly rare compared to other cancers.

It might be scary, but this is just a wake up call that you need to manage this disease. The links provided above are good ones.

Hi VERONICA . . . Welcome to 3FC . . . I already posted a comment in your Introduction thread suggesting that you would be well advised not to post your e:mail address on the open boards. If you want to give it to someone in particular, you can send them a Private Message - - for more info on PM's click on the "User CP" in the navigation bar at the top of any forum page.

Anyway, it has now been removed.

I do suggest you read all the above. Trust me you are not going to die from PCOS in a year. I am 40 and have not dealt with this in 25 years. Now I am doing something about it and doing something for me. Losing weight will help you with the symtoms.

It can be scary, but you need to arm yourself with information and read up about what is going on with you!

www.soulcysters.com is great for information too!!

Well first thing to do one you get back is find a better doctor!

I'm 24 and was diagnosed four years ago. All you can do is deal with the disease and put it out of your mind. It really only starts to affect you if you develop diabates, but with proper diet that shouldn't happen.
