  • Hello everyone! It was pouring when I drove home from PT today. I had already gone to the gym. I've been walking a mile (probably a bit more) each day recently and I am amazed that I can do it in only about 15 min. That's faster than I did in my 50s when I walked with my dh! I only weighed a few pounds more than now but I had a collapsed lung and didn't know it at the time. It took me about 20 min then. I also do a bit of jogging now and then at the gym which I didn't do in the street in those days. I just hustled to keep up with dh then but now he can't keep up with me. I wish he could.

I read a new book ...it's called Trim Healthy Mama and I've been following their eating plan. So far I really like it. It is just eating food I normally would eat for the most part. Their recipes call for somethings I don't normally use but I haven't started trying them yet, I just eat my regular foods but I go by one rule. I don't do it perfectly but I try. The one rule is: do not have both carbs and fats in the same meal and have protein as the core. I have always tried to do the protein thing even though I'm not big on meat and rarely eat beans since dh doesn't care for them. I have gotten alot of my protein from milk which this book said is not good, but I am still doing that to some extent. I guess I'm stubborn but they say the fact that even non-fat milk has sugar in it means insulin release and is not good for weight loss. Makes sense I guess, but oh well, I'll do what I feel right about. You can drink kirfir (not sure that's spelled right).

But basically at each meal I think about what I want to eat most...some meals it's carbs so then I have very little fat. Other meals (less often for me) it's fat so I have little carbs. Even with my carb meals I try to never have more than 3 carb servings or 45 gms. So it's not a lot different than I normally eat just kind of a different way of looking at it. I get a lot of fiber and protein so I'm staying mostly full and so far it seems like it's working. Yesterday we ate out for lunch and I messed up badly but when I got home I stuck to plan and I still lost weight.

The book is expensive but is a lot more than a weight loss plan..it covers about everything in life and the diet part of it is Biblically based. I bought the PDF version as it is cheaper but now I wish I had the hard copy as I think it would be easier to read the recipes. My biggest problem is wanting a snack that would be off plan now and then but actually it hasn't been too hard yet.

My meals so far (I eat every 3 hrs IF my bs can handle it. It couldn't this am so I had no morning snack)
breakfast - PB mocha with added fiber (this is not really on plan as it contains sugar but oh well I gots to have my mocha. The way I think of it (rationalizing here)...the mocha mix and the milk was part carb but also protein and the pb was fat and also protein. But I am drinking these MUCH less than I was and have been surprised how easy it's been SO FAR!

Gym and PT (ANOTHER new exercise added!)

    lunch
Ham and low sodium turkey slices (1 each) on 45 cal whole wheat bread with a little mustard
a little green pepper and 1/2 small tomato (ETA this)
    1/2 apple

    afternoon snack
    17 mixed nuts

    Dinner
Broccoli & Tofu Stir-Fry with Toasted Almonds (recipe from a diabetic book. I added salt and a little more soy sauce in a sauce so dh would like it (he did!) but I used very little cornstarch. It was really good!
    rice, 1/2 cup
    cup hot chocolate for dessert

    evening snack
    sunflower seeds
    1/2 apple
    1 T PB

I figure I'll never be perfect on any diet but I have to have a diet that works for me most of the time!

Deelee - Sorry for everything your mom (and you) are going through! I hope she recovers well from this surgery and the chemo.

Cajun - No haven't found the DVDs yet. So frustrating as I know they are here somewhere! Yes I still have the original VHS but they are going bad that's why I was transferring them.

Karen3 - Yea!!! So happy for you!!

Donna - MORE snow?!! Maybe you should move out my way...mostly all we get is rain. Actually you'd probably rather move to Karen31's state.

Bobbi - Happy for you! Wow, that is an adventure! I haven't moved in so long I can't imagine. Glad the transactions are going well.
  • No Rosey - you didn't ruin it. A log house and pine cabinets - perfect! Do you have a braid rug somewhere else? Ah, the quilts! When I cook, which is basically Thanksgiving and Christmas these days, I wear an apron. Otherwise I get stuff all over my clothes. I read back in the emails. I was picturing you trying to put an iron on transfer and hot glue jewels....Made me laugh all over again!

I picture Bobbi surrounded by snow. And quilts. And always moving. Karen FL - well, in FL with Dash watching the BBC or playing bridge. Gayle near all the U of Texas, MDAnderson medical buildings when at work. And at home with Maddie. I picture Cajun mostly at her camp but now am seeing her son"s house. Or in her kitchen making sausage. it's just kind of funny how we get to know aspects of each others lives. I picture Mary and her husband at the health club and in their traveling mode.
  • Weekend!!! Yay. :/
Sausage is smoking!! We started seasoning and stuffing last night at 5:30 and everything was done for 9:00. Time to stir paint and slap it on.

    Have a good weekend!

Dh told me the fish are starting to bite. If we can wrap up this house we will go to the camp next weekend and fish and have fun instead of work. I can't wait!!!

    Gotta run
    Hugs

  • Quick Hola, All...
I'm off to the HealthFair in about an hour and so will need to lather the lard a little. I don't want to discourage them from volunteering!

Beautiful today! My cousin's son will be here (I hope) to finish the yard work. I'd like to get fertilizer on before it snows again on Monday. It's lovely to have the moisture, but maybe it would have been better to spread Winter over more than one month?

Rosey - I can visualize your house and you and Mr. CPants perfectly! It's warm and cozy and WARM. Love it!

Bobbi - how goes the battle?

Dee - oh, I wish I could make things all better for you! You're under so much stress that it's no wonder you've gotten sick. I know it lowers resistance. Any your poor mother! Gawd! How old is she? Good thoughts abound.

KarenFL - I'm so happy about your doc appointment! Keep up the good work, girlie!

Nothing much to report. I'm glad the weekend is here. Life is MUCH calmer now, thankfully, and I'm well again, and all is just marvy. So, everyone have a good rest of the day! Later, lovelies!
  • Hi-

I'm nervous about today. I think all of DS's fiance's friends will be judging me. It's going to be mostly their friend's so hopefully they'll be too busy having fun to pay any attention to me. Wish me luck.
  • Dee - my dear old dad used to say (I've paraphrased it nicely): "if they aren't paying your bills, they don't get an opinion"... We'll be waiting to hear about your adventure!
  • Howdy all...I can not believe how 2 Aleve have changed my knees. The pain is really gone for hours. I walked into beauty shop for a hair cut and then Walgreens for stuff without a cane. Without a cane I stand straighter and back is better Mighty Fine mighty fine!

Bobbi....When is the closing? Since you2 have spent the past year correcting everything in this house, they should be ready to close quickly. Has the electric bill come in?

Mary...You are thinking outside the box looking for the missing DVDs. What's the most logical spot? Look there twice cause they are in camo!

Cajun....S.O.S. send sausage down here asap! The flumes from the smoker are driving me insane.

Donna....why'd you send that cold front down here? But finally got some rain and turned a/c off, so thanks.

Rosey....Is it being married for a long time turns men into cranky pants? Mine sure gets into his pair because it's Tuesday....no excuse just grumbling like an old bear.

Dee....Now listen Girl! It was you who raised that boy into the man "she" wants and you deserve big kudus not judgement. If you get uncomfortable just grab your phone and texts us. Or pretend to tex who will know since thats all anyone does now......

Cooked chicken this afternoon so dinner is done for 2 nights. Need to think of something else this week that I can do in big batch and just reheat. No reason just feeling lazy.

Darn the rain is increasing and I just had to shut the sider. 90 yesterday and 50 today????????? A couple to counties below are on tornado watch from yesterday(Fri) until Sunday....wow usually it is 2-3 hrs at most. k3
  • Hi everyone. another beautiful day, sunny and MELTING Mr cranky wanted to get out for a bit so we drove out to captain cook park, only critters we saw where eagles . steve has always been a negative person where im always happy and positive and i dont get mad easily but when i do the freeze is on.. they say ooposites attract. hmmm he was such an %4^&78 last nite i just had to walk away. after a few hrs of the silent treatment he realized i was mad( maybe slamming dishes and cupboards and doing dishes at 9 pm and mumbling swearwords under my breath should have been a clue), so sucking up by him was on the agenda. it wasnt working however after all that banging he apologized, and i said what i needed too all is well. we picked up the mail while on our drive and i got a letter from my grandson Tim. hes in his 4th week of basic training for the airforce in Texas, i was as elated as alittle kid waiting for santa. hes doing fine as i know he would, sure do love my grkids. ive been working on my quilt and reading, after all the house work is done from my getting over my bad last nitethe good part is i didnt eat junk to get over this, like i sometimes do. hoping your weekend is peaceful without any mad "ons" rosey

    breakfast
    coffee
    banna

    lunch
    ham and vegie ommlette

asst raw vegies with lite ranch dressing dip
    4 seasalt and dill trisquits

    dinner
    pork cutlet

  • It's been a quiet day...I only went outside to get the mail, but dh worked outside most of the day. No rain but not very warm. I did two loads of laundry and other mostly daily type housework but wasn't as productive as I should have been.

My eating was ok until dinner. I got mixed up on my carbs thinking I could have a mocha for dessert, but even though I used almond milk it was too many carbs. Just wasn't thinking. Otherwise I'm still ok though and I can have a snack tonight.

    breakfast
    pb mocha
    1/4 lg apple

    am snack
    milk

    lunch
    ham and turkey sandwich
    1/2 lg apple

    dinner - off plan
    chicken noodle soup
1 sl toast with 1 t smart balance
pb mocha made with 2 t. pb and almond milk

Karen31 - I've looked everywhere I thought I would put it (most logical places), but so far nothing. It will probably turn up when I least expect it, but it is frustrating. Also I have now lost something else....a little blue tube of a homeopathic med for hot flashes. I thought I put it in my purse to take to doctor to ask him about it. I did ask him but didn't show him the tube...good thing cause it's not in my purse! That's the 3rd thing I can't find...I also can't find the ibuprophen I was taking for my shoulder before I started getting the shots at PT. Now sometimes I'd like to take it and I can't find it...it was an almost full large bottle! I think I'm losing my mind...:-o
  • Good Morning, we're gradually taking boxes over to the Brent house as we go in. DH put a space heater in the bedrooms where I've been painting, no heat in the house yet. I got so cold that I had shivers down my back one night.

K3...closing is May 31st, so far everything is running smoothly. They have a water inspector coming out Monday to test our well water. As to the electric bill, it only went down $5.00. But I've thought all along that it was the dehumidifier that runs it up. We don't have any water problems in the basement but like to run it to keep the basement smelling good. I'm happy your pain level has decreased.

Tomorrow we'll place our order for kitchen cabinets and pick out the kitchen flooring. Bruce will put the floor in himself and a carpenter crew will hang the cabinets and build a new garage. The garage on the property is bad, another crew will bulldoze it in, take out the crumbling back steps and sidewalk.

Today he'll patch up all the plaster walls at the base of wall, he took all the old crown moldings off. We'll replace them with new. I used a whole gallon of Kilz primer in the hot pink bedroom, had to do two coats. The 2nd bedroom had chocolate brown painted wall, ugh! Sloppy paint job, she got brown paint all over the white ceiling when she slapped on the paint. (That will take two coats of kilz primer too) We're not sure if we'll refinish the hardwood floors ourselves or hire it done. Sooooooooooo much to do, I've not turned my computer on some days, just don't have the time.

KarenMo...I didn't get pictures of the kitchen before we gutted it but will show pictures after it's finished.

    TaTa

  • Hi everyone! Hope you're having a good Sunday. We had a great service at church as usual and now spending a quiet afternoon here at home. For breakfast this am I cooked for my first time with coconut oil! It smelled so good and I rubbed some into my hands at the same time. They still feel so nice and smooth from it!

I prefer coming back and editing as I eat rather than at the end of the day posting them all. Even though I'm not doing my new eating plan perfectly, I mostly feel full and my weight has dropped a little already. I love the book as it seems so practical, down-to-earth and conversational. The authors don't agree all the time and they chat about their differences which is funny.

    breakfast
fried egg in 1 t. coconut oil
1 slice whole wheat 45 cal toast with 1 t. Smart Balance (a little high in carb at 9 gms but not too bad)

lunch (I'm sure this is off plan due to the amounts of both fat and carb)
spaghetti (1/2 cup) topped with meat sauce
asparagus drizzled with 1/4 t. olive oil
    PB mocha with added fiber

    afternoon snack (or dinner)
    popcorn

    dinner (or eve snack)
    chicken noodle soup
1 sl ww toast with 1/2 t Smart Balance
    4 squares chocolate bar

Haven't really been OP today but calories ok.

Well, I found one of the things I was missing finally...found the homeopathic med. It was way down in a deep pocket in my purse. Still hoping to find the other two.

Karen31 - Although I've looked in all the "logical" places several times, I'm going to keep looking. Today I plan to pull everything out of some of the places like in the corners of the lower cabinets in my kitchen. We have an old house and they didn't put in those lazy susans like most kitchens have today. I have put in some of my own but there is still a big black hole in back of them where I store stuff I almost never use, so maybe I put them in there May not get to all the places today but I'll get to them this week. I've used a step stool and felt and moved around things, but this will be the week I'll actually remove everything. They have to be here somewhere! I remember when I was hiding them I was thinking not to put them where they'd get too dusty (like garage) or might get wet if I forgot them when I got home (like bathroom). Glad the Aleve is helping you. You sound like a commercial for it! And that's a good thing.

Rosey - "Silent" treatment with doors slamming and muttering?...LOL sorry but I had to laugh when I read that! I know what you mean though. Hope things improve soon. Glad you got the house clean and stayed op with your eating at least. I know when I'm busy I eat less.

Bobbi - I wish I had 1/2 your energy and strength! I'm enjoying hearing about your move and in a way it makes me want to move too, but think for now I'll just enjoy it vicariously. It seems like most people hate to move but when I wa young I used to love to move...a new (to me) home, new neighborhood, new friends...I loved it all! I still like the idea but I find change a little harder these days. Can't wait to see the pictures!

Deelee - It's funny how we get these mental pictures of each other. I do the same thing. Our "health club" is really just a community center but it does have a great gym with a nice size pool and sauna as well as many fitness classes in addition to the walking track and workout equipment/machines. We are quite happy with it. I wish we could get back to our "travel mode!" Due to pulling so much out of our savings to pay taxes, we decided to lay low for a few months, but we hope to be traveling again by fall or next winter at least.

Cajun - That sausage smells great!! I hope you do get to go camping, you deserve it after all that hard work!
  • Good Morning!! Just had to stop in and post this for everyone this morning!! Just thought that it was to funny!! Got a busy day planned so will try to get back later!

  • Cute joke KarenMo, that's me

Mary...what energy? Geeeeeeeeeez, I can't believe how tired I am by supper time. We ordered our kitchen cabinets this morning at Lowe's and was pleasantly surprised that we got them soooooooooooo much cheaper than Home Depot. (DD) Tiffany's kitchen is about the same size as our new house. We spent almost twice as much money on her cabinets and about the same quality as Lowe's. I'm not sure is Lowe's is country wide or just local stores. I'll never go back to Home Depot.

We're taking the rest of the day off, got lots of packing to do.
  • Snowy hello, All...

Yes, it's snowing again... 6-8" expected. I'm beginning to get a little tired of this!

CK - LOVED your cartoon! I've been having a "senior" day today, too, so I could definitely relate. And my dear neighbor had what I think might have been a little stroke; her grandson came to tell me he was taking her to the hospital, totally disoriented, couldn't remember the date or the President. Sh's very, very sharp, so this is worrisome.

I made mini chicken pot pies before I went out to return the waterbed pump I rented. Yes, the heater went out on Saturday, so I spent yesterday draining and refilling the bed. I need that warmth for my hips; I haven't had good sleep for the last two nights, and I'm verging on testy! BTW, the pot pies are wonderful, and I learned a lot... USE A CUPCAKE PAPER.

Nothing on the agenda. I should go do laundry, but I'm thinking a nap would be a much better way to spend my time!

Bobbi - good luck with your Lowe's cupboards. I hope the quality is good. Like you and Home Depot, I've sworn to never go to Lowe's again. I'm anxious to see pictures!

Off to do something! Later, all...
  • Hello ladies,
Sausage smoked!!! They came out good. The ds's girlfriends were here all weekend and they were pulling the links out the smokehousenand cooking them some. Those two girls love sausage. We FINISHED painting and trimming the house. It's complete. Looks good. Dh is repairing some boards on the pump house where our well and water softener are. Then we will paint that. It's only about 12x12. Shouldn't take long. This girl is ready to go fishing. We called for them to move ds house but they can't come until wednesday afternoon and they are giving 60% chance of rain. We are hoping to miss it. They came this morning and poured his limestone on his driveway and tomorrow the sewer and water people are coming to mark the spot. We are having some awesome weather here. It cool sunny and beautiful. I barbecued yesterday evening and we sat outside and ate. It was a very tiring weekend. Oh I forgot at 8 o'clock Saturday night when we came in we showered and went to a wedding. Got back after midnight. Phew
After work I'm going clean the boat and get it ready for the weekend at the camp. Ds is cutting grass for us. Other son is looking at his driveway and marking where the house goes.

deelee~ how did it go with your future dil and her friends?

Karenfl~amazing what a pain reliever does. Sometimes I think they don't work until we can't use them. I guess they do help. Just take for granted. I'm happy you are feeling better. I wish I could share the sausage with all my golden friends.

Rosey~lol love your slamming doors and dishes. He got the message. I bet it was awesome hearing from your Tim. Glad he's doing well. Yay for you not turning to food.

Mary~your new diet plan sounds interesting. Mary you need to find you a corner in plain sight somewheres in your house and call that corner your hiding spot. Put all you want to hide in that corner. When your looking for something go to your hiding spot. Lol. Just kidding. We always have too many things on our minds. The other day I caught myself putting my purse in the frig.

Bobbi~will your house be ready for when you have to move out? Did you get the cat smell out of the basement?

Karen31~ thought your cartoon was cute.

Donna~your snow again sounds like our rain again. Every 3 or 4 days we get big rains.

    Hello to all

    Hugs
    Cajun
