  • can i join in here? i'm very new to this whole not eating animal products thing. no one else in my family or friends does it, so i could use all the support i can get! this seems to be a very active and friendly group. so is that alright? for the challenge my weights are:
starting weight (as of this morning): 148.2
    short term goal (thanksgiving): 143
    goal: 140
  • Summerkate! Looks like we're in a similar place, height/weight-wise. It gets tough as you get closer, doesn't it? I'm new to being vegetarian too (since early September).

    again
  • We'd be glad to have you summerkate! I've only been a vegetarian for about a month, and no one else in my family is a vegetarian either.

So I have a mini-confession but also a personal success. When i first decided to go vegetarian i decided to try not eating dairy or eggs either, but i said to myself "i can always add those back in if i want to." So i kept the cheese and icecream I already had in my fridge. Now after having gone a month with no dairy or cheese and with a little motivation of some non-dairy cheese (I finally found some in this tiny health food store) I emptied my fridge of the cheese and icecream! Now my fridge is completely animal product free. Hooray!

Well that's my little success of the day.
  • summerkate- WELCOME to the group!

tigger175- thats great! when i first went vegetarian almost 9 years ago i couldn't have imagined going vegan at the same time! congrats!
  • Morning Ladies- tigger good for you!!! I am sure I could probably be vegan, but for now I am sticking to my lacto ovo ways... I have thought about it over and over and its kind of like when I thought about becoming vegetarian over and over and over and years later I just finally did it... we'll see I suppose- but KUDOS to you for doing it!!!!

I have been bad on my diet this weekend, but back on track today... we'll see if it shows come Thursday!

  • JulieJ08- thanks so much! i hope so too lol
  • haley-- yeah that would look crazy
  • thanks for the welcome ladies!!

tigger175-that's awesome that you don't have any animal product foods in your house anymore!! i'm kindof not sure what to do with the rest of my meat and dairy stuff. i have three roomates so i'm hoping they'll just eat it eventually.

so tomorrow i'm grocery shopping and trying to come up with some fun but cheap recipes. i have a vinagrette dressing and i was thinking about getting some pasta, beans, and tomatoes and mixing it all together for some lunches. any other ideas??
  • kate.... fatfreevegan.com and vegweb.com has lots of great recipes... vegweb has a 'easy and quick' section that I love

I gave mine to my roomies (some of my sister's young adult kids live with me). They're strapped, and really appreciated it. I had just bought a big bag of frozen salmon fillets! I kinda figured I would just use it up, then go totally veg when it was gone, but once I started, I just didn't want to have meat anymore.
  • jillnicole03-thanks for the website. i just checked them out, and they do have some really tasty looking stuff

juliej08-i did the same thing. i figured i'd eat the rest of my coffee creamer and stuff like that at least until it was gone, but i don't really want to right now. not eating meat and dairy feels pretty good so far!! (i think it would be pretty hard to give up a whole bag of salmon though, that stuff is one of my favs!)
