Now, I must tell you what I'm p*ssed about today ---- Dearest Grandpa Jim is 90 years old. His only income is $600 a month social security. He doesn't have any assets, unless you want to count all the junk he has stacked around his delapidated mobile home (which isn't his, it's ours). The last 10 years he has spent creatively switching his credit card account balances from one new credit card to another. He receives, conservatively, at least a dozen credit card bills every month. His house of cards has collapsed and he is going to claim bankruptcy. I would feel sorry for the credit companies, but hey, I think that they prey on old ppl, with the idea that they will end up with their estate when they die, but the jokes on them w/ Grandpa Jim, because he doesn't have an estate. Now here is the part I'm p*ssed about - the credit card companies are now calling ME. I got 2 calls just this morning before I left for work. They told me basically, too bad, they are going to continue to call until they get paid. I'm nutz enough without this. This is just one more reason why I'm also p*ssed at his 7 other children, because none of them help him or visit him. One sil did send him $500 for his bankruptcy lawyer, we gave him the other half. It's not cheap to go broke.

Between this and the DD's love life, and the DS's love life, and everybody moving back home, along w/ their little dog, I'm ready to check into the nut house. Whaaaaaaa

Oh that we could all be orphaned only children...alas, we have to learn to act like them. It is against the law for creditors to call you when you don't owe them money. Anyway, don't you have caller ID? Don't you have block? It is 2004. I'm sure Grandpa Jim would be HAPPY to give you the cash to pay for these things EVERY MONTH so you won't have to be hounded by HIS creditors. Ach.

OK. I'm calmer now. I talked to a friend who works at a financial institution. She said as soon as Grandpa Jim files his bankruptcy papers, they can't call anymore. He's doing it today, so collection calls should stop within a couple weeks. Old folks are so frustrating. They just won't behave.

My theory on Peachers ediot is that said ediot is intimidated by the Peach, because she's so smart. Isn't that what Lush just said???

So far, we only have 6 bunco girls going to the garden show, not the whole group. Oh well. We will have so much fun everyone else will be jealous.

Wabby-- So sorry that Grandpa is YOUR burden and that so few of the plausible helpers are being helpful. Many times I've shuddered with relief at being the only of parents who lived fast and died young. (It wasn't fun for a while, there.... but you are the second person I know with a codger in a trailer.....not fun.)

Lohani-- I wanted to be invited to Jr. League... Didn't live on the right side of the highway, or have a hubby #1 who made enough money, or join the right club, or something.... I would have flunked the shoes and bag test, anyway. Those were my chasing a little baby AND hosting public library story hour days....

Any of you doing South Beach? I heard the MD interviewed on NPR today;.. might have to give in and buy one more diet book.... It seemed to have something to do with food combining and segretating.... (maybe like keeping Kosher, even) Fats OR carbs, never both. But I only heard a little bit....
