  • Hi Ladies,
Sorry for being MIA. Organizing the Halloween Carnival wiped me out! I must have walked from the gym to my classroom and the school 30 times and lifted 1,000 pounds worth of stuff. I was sore all over and slept and read almost all of the next day.

Tex-I am sorry to say that I missed one more day of exercise on Saturday because I could not drag my poor, tired, sorry @** out of bed. So, I started over on Sunday and today is day two for me.

    Sunday-25 minutes of spinning
    Monday 35 minutes of spinning

This time I am allowing myself three pauses! I was trying to be boot camp tough on myself, but I think I need to give myself a little wiggle room so I can make it through 21 days by the end of this century!

I got an exercise bike that has all different types of workouts programmed into it. I really like it a lot. It gives me a good aerobic workout when it is rainy and I am not able to walk. It also allows me to watch TV and workout, which makes the time go a lot faster. I think this may help me workout more consistently.

Red-I did not mean to give you an "assignment" when I asked you to write about your walks in Tokoyo. But as an English teacher, yeah, writing is my interest and the way I love to communicate. I guess I was curious about your walks and I did not ask so that I could be critical about your writing. I don't do that here, and I write like I talk here, too. I just love the chatting about our lives, don't you think it is fascinating to meet people from all over the world involved in the same struggles/issues as you? So, sorry if I made you feel put on the spot! Didn't mean to!

Ladies, I will come back tomorrow and write more. It is the end of the quarter and I have TONS of grading to do...sheesh.

  • Morning all,
Red, we've just got past an equine flu outbreak here and apparently it is in Japan now so we do not allow the movement of horses from countries with the disease. Quarantine is really tight here. For the same reasoning you are not seeing downunder horses up there. Too much risk.

I'm hoping for an NZ victory with Nom de Jeu - it would do my old heart good to beat the Aussies one more time. The All Blacks did it Saturday night in Hong Kong to take the Bledisloe cup series 3-1, the Silver Ferns beat the Diamonds in the netball series even though they lost the last game, and now maybe we can make it three in a row. There will sure be a powerful hangi in the outback if that happens. You'll probably hear us up there.

    cya
  • Well, Shad, Nom de Jeu was 8th. Too bad. But photo finish there too! But what happened to Gallopin? I hope it wasn't a breakdown. All I see is "failed to finish."

Quix -- Good to see you back! Just glanced through your post. No, I didn't feel "put on the spot" at all. I was actually thinking this would be an interesting exercise to do. So, please, no apologies!
  • Wow Red - 4 days. You're rocking. Does that purple stuff really fuel you? I've noticed that you are into colors - red balloon, green juice, purple oatmeal...
    Have a great sunshine day.
PS - I only gained 0.6 for my poor behavior yesterday. I was expecting worse.
  • What's the Start-Over Queen doing today?
You guessed it! I'm happy for the foodporn prohibition so I don't have to make a full confession. But it was ugly. Nevertheless -- onward!

    So, here goes again.

    Three pauses.

    • At least 12,500 steps a day.
    • Eat only when seated.
    • Journal every bite.
    • Weigh in daily.
    • Core.
    • At least 8 fruits and veggies.
    • Yoga or tai chi daily.

Red, that book does sound interesting. I don't understand what's behind my not really getting it together on any front but I do think there's SOMETHING behind it. Time to start babystepping... Can you find out the name of the book? I'd like to look it up...

Miriam, I sure have you beat -- 3 up since yesterday. Ugh.

Tex, congrats on your exercise graduation! It's pretty meaningful stuff, accomplishing that kind of thing, and you're rightly proud!

Sassy, I run three mornings a week, go to the gym and walk home the long way three mornings and on Sunday go for a long walk with my husband. Then I park farish from places I go so that I get extra steps, sometimes walk over to his office to walk him home, go for 20-minute walks here and there. It's a 20-minute walk to tai chi... it all adds up. But, yeah, some days it seems like a lot of walking. And I've got to remind myself to make sure I wear proper shoes for it. My feet still hurt from Sunday's walk.

All right. I promise, here and now, that I'm going to try harder today. Let's take this day and make it work for us!
  • Hi everyone! Day 10 is complete!

    Exercise daily - 1 pause (used )

I did my Walk Away the Pounds video this morning before the kiddos got up. I'll tell you, I was tempted to go back to the "easy" one, but I hung in there and did the 2 mile I am getting a new workout video in from Netflix today, so something different for tomorrow morning!

I am really liking this 21 day challange idea! I am halfway through this one and already starting to think of what my next one should be. If I keep doing this, I should have a slew of good habits worked into my routine by next year!

Miriam - Hoping that today is better for you!

Sheri - No harm! I'm glad to se you starting over and still posting! Hope that the Carnival was a huge success!
  • Arg! I keep restarting! I'm going to try adding a pause, to 3, and I'm not going to restart until I've used up my pauses. This is something I want to do, so other things in my life will just have to give.
  • Hi!
Well, I made it to day three without a pause. I did some abs, arms and 30 minutes of spinning.

Ufi-I had to be easier on myself, too. I just could not get by with just one pause. And, I don't want to be so tough on myself that I give up. So, you and I are on about the same track now!

Tex-You are doing great! Are you seeing good weight loss being so consistent? I think the next challenge I do here will be to food journal daily and take my measurements every week. I have not done any measurements, but I have gone from a size 20 to a 16W, so I am thinking that would be another way to encourage myself. Our school is really little, so the carnival was not HUGE, but it was a huge success! I felt really good about it after it was all done, but I was little crazed getting it organized. Luckily, some great parent volunteers came forward and did lots of work, too!

Red-I will do an entry soon about a walk in the redwoods or up to the top of the local peak...as soon as it quits raining like crazy that is!

Arabella-You have a lot of goals. I admire your organization...that is a lot to keep track of in one day! Do you journal about all of your goals? What is core?

Well, time to go grade the ever growing stack of papers! Have a great, onplan day!
    Sheri
  • two new ones...
Howdy all! A most unproductive day today due to a VERY late night out. Haven't done the cleaning challenge for today but will post now and come back later with the results!

To all my fellow Americans, congratulations on a new president. Very nice to see from here, how people got out to vote. Makes me proud. Watched both speeches, Obama's and McCain's on the Net. Very moving, both of them. I'm just full of tears today. May Barack Obama be able to help give the country and the world what it needs!

In the name of CHANGE I have decided to start up two new challenges today that I plan to take through to the end of the year at least.

    No smoking

    No booze

No pauses on either. I know they're tough but I do better when the going gets rough. It's my perverse personality I guess. Wish me luck, please.

    **************
Quix -- Congrats on completing Day 3! I look forward to reading about your walk. How wonderful that you can walk amongst the redwoods. I am so jealous.

Ufi -- Good to see you back with us! Welcome back! I like your attitude. Power to you!

tex -- You are almost halfway there! Wow! I am so glad you are enjoying the challenge. I have been doing these for years and I definitely know my life is better for it. So strong of you to not give in and do the "easy" video.

miriam -- You know, you may be on to something there. I had never really thought of myself as being "into colors," but I guess I am, eh? I suppose it's indicative of a very simplistic mind, the kind of mind that responds to the basics. Miriam, you too are an American abroad. I hope the image of America will improve over the next years. It has gotten so difficult to be an American overseas these days. Also, Miriam, with all your personal sadness of recent, I do hope you're doing better.

Arabella -- An "ugly" little slipup, eh? Well, I can sure identify with that. And I'm going to be right there with you because I'm going to start up two new challenges today and plan on seeing them through 21 days and more, straight through to the end of the year. And you can quote me on that!

The name of that book is "The Power of Story." Here's a link to the Amazon page with the reviews. Hope it speaks to you.

  • Give me five!
Ok, results of today's three challenges.

    Sunshine Challenge
Day 5 completed no pauses allowed
    No Booze
Day 1 complete no pauses allowed
    No Smoking
Day 1 complete no pauses allowed

  • Well everyone, I am up for some "non traditional exercise" today. I am doing housework. I will be moping the floors (2500 sq ft of tile - YIKES), scrubbing the toilets, and doing laundry. I am a bit sore from the last few days and hubby thinks I need to let me body rest and recover a bit. So, for once, I'm listening to him. I'll still exercise, through my housework, just not as intensely!

Ufi - WTG on starting over! It would be easy to give up, I'm proud of you!

Sheri - WTG on Day 3! Glad to hear the Carnival was a success - it's always heartening to see new parents step up to help out!

red - WTG on your challenges! You've added 2 tough ones to your goals, but I know you can accomplish them!
  • Hi everyone! Hi Shad!

Whew! Election craziness is over, and so back to the workout routine. I didn't go after work last night b/c we wanted to watch the returns. I did go after work on Monday so that was Day 11? (I may have to go back and verify).

So today, start Day 12. Congrats on everyone's success, re-starts, good intentions, etc.

Red, that book sounds soooo interesting--I am going to buy that soon to inspire me. Thanks for the good info!!

More personals later--got to help hub get off to work!
  • Well, Day 11 is in the books and I'm counting my housework as exericse. I didn't get to mop, but I did wash, dry, fold/hang, and pick up EIGHT loads of laundry today I did a few squats when I was tranferring clothes and hefting all those baskets bac and forth should count for something! I am going to do a few crunches before bed, and then back to the exercise videos tomorrow!

Hope everyone is having a great day!
  • Hi everyone! Just a flyby! I made it to day four with 25 minutes for belly dance cardio...that'll trim the old waistline down!

I have some pumpkin curry bubbling on the stove and I am gonna go eat it!

    Good night!

    Sheri
  • How many times must I start over? As many as it takes.
Tuesday afternoon took an ugly turn too. Yesterday I woke up 4-5 pounds heavier than I'd been Monday morning. And I gave the leftover candy to DS.

Ever so often I have the thought that I'm doing so well that I've "got it." And then I prove myself wrong.

Anyway. Onward. Day 1 again. I was pretty much OP yesterday but didn't get quite all my steps or do tai chi or yoga.

Quixotica, I do most of those things anyway -- exercise and water ones, at least. It's the dang food that gets me Yeah, that's why I'm here. And I guess it's more steps, which I've been increasing throughout the year. But I've pretty much always exercised, very rarely take a day off. Core is a Weight Watchers plan that allows you to eat satisfying amounts of a variety of extremely healthy foods and gives you a little allowance over that to use for what you want.

Red, that book looks interesting. I'm looking at his blog on Amazon. I'm just a little leery of buying a book that seems like it's got so many exercises with it because I can't imagine trying to do another thing. But I can sure try to adopt some of the principles and ideas. Thanks for the link!

Tex, good for you with the laundry! Eight loads is A LOT. I occasionally think I should skip the exercise some days and devote that time and energy to getting my housework done. But I never do it. Hmmmm...

Modcat, Day 11? Can I hang onto your coat tails? I guess I've got to get the momentum going myself. I'm embarrassed to keep coming in here with the same story, which is -- I guess -- part of the process. Get embarrassed enough to summon the strength to stay OP.

Ufi, you and me both! But we'll "do it till we're satisfied," right?

    K, Wimmen -- let's HIT IT!
