  • Awww, it's so nice to hear from all of you.

I feel so much better now than my earlier post (I was somewhat bitter about my weight and BGL this morning). Well, my insurance didn't cover my nutritionist, so I cancelled the appt. and went to Barnes and Noble instead. I bought The Corinne T. Netzer Dieter's Diary. I already planned my food intake for tomorrow at 1380 calories (figured that would leave room for some extras)/ 32g fat, which is basically cereal for breakfast, ham sandwich and apple for lunch, Arby's roast beef sandwich and side salad for supper, plus two granola bars for snacks. We'll see if I can stick to it, but I really liked planning my day in advance and looking up all the calories and fat. I feel encouraged, like I have some control over the situation.

Also, one of my coworkers used to be in the military and does this 5-part routine every day at home - i.e. reps of jumping jacks, side bends, push ups, sit ups, and one other I forgot - and he is very trim and has been doing it for 20 yrs., so I tried it and liked it - it's easy(ish) and free.

JEANNE: Happy Birthday. That is so sweet about your son and husband. You are a truly blessed lady!

MONET: Thanks for the Sugar Busters link, I'll check it out. Sounds like something for me - I was also looking at the Carb Addicts diet. Also, I'm sorry about the kiln mishaps. I remember how disappointing that would be when I used to work with clay. Now I just use Sculpey and bake it in the oven.

MEOWEE: I love EASY recipes too - something I can throw together after work that takes less than an hour. Please pass on any ideas you have. BTW, What is a sticky?

ROSEY: Thanks for all the insight. I might try Curves if this military workout doesn't work out. I agree with you, this is a stress reducer. As soon as I finished my calorie count for tomorrow, I was so excited, so I had to go online and share!

    Thanks everyone,
    Misa
  • MISA -- Glad you are feeling better about everything now. A 'sticky' just means a methodology for keeping a thread at the top of the forum list so it doesn't drift off to a second page and get forgotten; i.e., it is 'stuck' in place. When you look at the Diabetes Support main page now, there is a thread for RECIPES at the top of the page. BTW, regarding your meal plan, it's great that you are planning ahead . . . only thing I might suggest is more vegetables . . . I find they really help to fill me up.

ROSEY -- Sometimes it really seems to gang up on us doesn't it. This too will pass, chickie; just hang in there. Wow, you must be really thrilled the DH is selling that plane. Must admit, I've never been very comfortable in anything smaller than a commercial airliner. Our corporate jet was about a 10 seater and it always seemed just too flimsy to stay up in the sky all by itself. Made me nervous everytime I had to get on it.

Have a good evening everybody . . . see you soon.
  • Hi everyone! Dinner tonight was Panang pork, brown rice, and spinach. I ate very little, as my Byetta was making me sick. I have felt raunchy all night. I was keeping the grandson for my daughter and her husband to go shopping, and he was supposed to sleep, but he cried and cried after they left, so I ended up getting him out of bed and carrying him around the whole time they were gone. I of course did not mind this, but it is hard to bounce a crabby baby when you feel nauseated!

I gave a friend of mine a Christmas gift today...a set of four mugs and a sugar bowl and creamer that I made. I was so encouraged by her response! She told me she had been 'lusting' over my pottery for weeks, and was so excited I gave her some of it! It made my day!

MISA: I would suggest limiting your starches, and eating whole grains. I also agree with Meowee...you need more vegetables and fruits. Perhaps for a snack you could have a piece of fruit instead of a granola bar. I can help with the easy recipes too. I love to cook, but I am LAZY, so it has to be easy! You might find it helpful to make a large pot of some things, like chili, and freeze it in meal size containers. Then you have an easy meal by just pulling the container from the freezer. I went to Curves for over a year, and really liked it. If you need an easy way to get moving, it fills the bill in a nonthreatening way. The serious exercise gurus over on the Ladies Who Lift forum on here would tell you to join a 'real' gym. Curves DOES work for many ladies though, so if you will GO three times a week, it IS a great place to join.

ROSEY: I hope your stress levels get better, and the airplane sale goes off without a hitch! You sound so busy!

    MEOWEE:

  • Thanks for the suggestions. I have to go to Arby's tonight for work... don't ask, I have a strange job. For lunch, I may have a big spinach salad with ham, instead of the ham sandwich. Thanks for making me think!

  • Hi all.

After Christmas, I think I'm going to follow "The Schwarzbein Principle." It's all about healing the body THEN losing weight. I know I could use it!

I'm still on the job hunt. I worked 13 1/2 hours yesterday between the two... Needless to say, I got up kinda late this morning!

Well, I guess I better get cracking! My work won't get itself done!!!

    Hugs,
  • Hi all. Drizzley day here. Am surrounded by chocolates and nuts at work. I got insurance approval to restart my medical fast so I begin in January. In the meantime I'm trying to avoid "last meal syndrome." So hard to do during the holiday season.
Rosey - Glad you can keep your sense of humor.
Misa - I'm not on insulin. I take Glucophage and justed started back on Actos, which is what is brining my numbers down. These are actually good numbers for me.
Does anybody watch "The Biggest Loser"? The contestants outdid themselves this year with huge weight losses. Very inspirational.
  • Hi everyone. Good BGs here. Had very good weather for Dec here today and took the dogs for a 2.6 mile walk. Listened to David Sedaris Christmas Stories on my iPod...delightful satire! Was laughing out loud walking down the street.

Rosetta, yes I watched and was rooting for Eric! They all did so well it was amazing! I am so inspired by their hard workouts. I have the Biggest Loser Workout DVD #1, #2 is out now, may have to get it too. The workouts are fabulous and kick your butt! But that is exactly what I need to do! I also have a Pilates DVD that I do to stretch out before bedtime.

Josian, good luck on the job hunt.

Misa, nothing like veggies...I actually eat more when I stirfry mixed veggies with a little olive oil and garlic. mmmmmm I can have a heaping plate and never come close to 100 calories! Sometimes I will add about 1 once of lean ham for flavor. Salads get so boring.

Monet, that is so great to gift someone with stuff you make. I once gave a portrait of her sons to a friend as a surprise Christmas gift and she cried like a baby.
  • Hi all . . . this is not one of my better days . . . I did not sleep well last night and my BGL seems to be reflecting it. Everything was OK this morning at 4.6 (83) but then I missed my 10 am Insulin again and although lunch was a perfectly fine meal, I was up to 8.3 (149) before dinner. Now it is only 9:00 pm and I'm ready for bed. No Insulin tonight either because I have to go for blood work first thing in the morning and I don't dare take any for fear I'll be too low to get to the lab in the am (it has happened before). Should have had this done at least a month ago but I keep forgetting . . . get up, drink coffee and take some meds and THEN remember. Dumb.

Nova Scotia is basking in 15C (60F) temperatures today (and almost the same predicted again for tomorrow) . . . Wow, will we ever be paying for this later on in the Winter. I'll force myself to live with it in the meantime.

MONET . . . That is definitely a huge compliment and I'm sure it did make your day. Wow . . . Lust at the Pottery Wheel . . . sounds like a great title for a soap opera . . . who do you think should play you?

JOSIAN . . . Sounds interesting . . . is that a physical or a mental healing? I definitely hope your work situation settles down soon. Nobody can keep up those hours indefinitely.

ROSETTA . . . Stay strong in the face of those Christmas goodies. You are the second person to mention the finale of The Biggest Loser . . . sorry I missed it.

VIKI . . . You are now the third . . . hope I get to see a rerun soon. I'm a veggie lover, too. So wonderfully filling for so few calories. YUM.

Here's a great big for everybody else wherever you are and whatever you're doing. Keep moving and shaking, gang. See you soon . . .
  • I got a lot of shopping done today. I got a birthday present for my son in law...(the 19th), and a Christmas present for him, presents for my daughter, grandson, and a present for my son to give my grandson. My son is traveling for eleven days on business and will not be home until maybe the 23rd or 24th. He is in Philadelphia and will be traveling to Delaware and New Jersey as well. He gave me a list of things to get...mostly gift cards...for each person in the family. He is excited to have the money as he was out of work from July to a week ago! The salary he is making on this job is good, and I keep telling him he has to save save save....I hope he listens!

My Byetta shot made me really ill tonight. I missed my morning one...I had to go to the doctor for blood work, right after taking my son to the train to go to the airport to fly out this morning. I went straight from the doctor's to the local shopping center so I stopped and got an espresso, and a sausage biscuit. Not the best choice for breakfast, but it was fast and easy. I need to check my bg...ACK! Its 63...no wonder I feel nauseated! I start feeling ill after about 70. Off to find something to raise it quickly.

MEOWEE: Hmm, who to get to play me? It would have to be a buxom, curvaceous actress. I just can't think of any that fit the bill. I was NEVER skinny.

JOSIAN: Good luck with the job hunt! I know someone who used the SP diet...she did very well on it. I have a copy of it...it just seems so complicated!

VIKIA: I really enjoy making presents...I have two silk scarves I painted the other night but can't think of who to give them too. I thought about my sister in law...but I don't think she would like them.

ROSETTA: What kind of a fast is that? I laughed at your 'surrounded by chocolate and nuts' comment...I wondered if you were saying your co-workers were the nuts!

  • Well, I managed to eat under 1600 calories yesterday and you will be glad to know that I had a huge spinach salad with raw carrots, broccoli, and snow peas for lunch! My BGL were much better because of the limited calories/fat. Hope I can do it again today.

ROSETTA: I think your BGL numbers are great too - I'd love mine to be the same. I know exactly what you mean about the goodies surrounding you at work - me too. It's kind of nice to have to take a shot before eating, because sometimes it makes me have to decide if its worth it.

JOSIAN: Your new S Principle way of living sounds like a good and holistic approach. If it's a "mental healing", sign me up!! I'm sorry you are having to work so much and I hope you will find a better job soon.

MEOWEE: You're NOT dumb! It's a lot to remember!! "Normal" people do not have to remember all of the crap us diabetics do. Just the fact that you are on this post caring about your diabetes indicates that you are doing a good job. BTW, I think "Lust at the Pottery Wheel" was done a few years ago with Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze.

MONET: I am giving a lot of homemade gifts too. I bought inexpensive picture frames and then glued ribbon around them and put funky oversize buttons on the corners (to cover up the ribbon edge). Walmart has some really cute buttons and ribbon. Then I made a "Designed by Misa" card on the computer to put in the frame. I also made all my Christmas cards this year.

    Have a great weekend!
    Misa
  • Morning all, 91 FBG this morning. I will be starting to do some Christmas baking today. My family has an expectation of certain Christmas cookies and I will not be chucking the tradition simply because I cannot gorge on them. But I am going to switch out sugar with Splenda where I can if it will not change the cookie too much.

My gifts to extended family (brother's and their wives) will be a Christmas Baskets with Homemade Cookies, Ingredients/Recipe to make Italian Creme Sodas (Torani Syrup, Sparkling Water and FF Half & Half), Shrink Wrapped Flat Iron Steaks, and my favorite Grilling Spices.

Monet, a hand painted scarf would be a "treasure", I am sure anyone would love. But if not your SIL, maybe a really great friend that you want to remember.

Misa, well done! I'm not sure what your normal calorie intake is, but it is often said that reducing your intake by even 500 calories and increasing your activity 30 minutes a day will help you to lose 1 pound a week. Over a year, that is 52 pounds of steady weight loss.

Meowee, I hope things go better for you today!
  • Just a quick HELLO today, gang . . . my whole day seems to be upside down. Yes, I did manage to get up and out to the lab this morning and, as usual, that has put my BGL into a tizzy. Then I was so hungry when I got home . . . well let's just say my eating is in a tizzy too. To top it off, it is still fairly mild (which in and of itself is not a bad thing), but it is also so rainy and damp, my poor old body just aches everywhere. Anyway, not to worry, I imagine I'll be back to myself (whether or not that's a good thing ) pretty soon.

In the meantime, I wish all of you a great day of moving and shaking and doing all the good stuff you possibly can. See you all soon.
  • Warning: RANT
I work in a small building. Because I don't want to use the unisex bathroom on our floor, I go down to the women's room on the floor below. It is small, only two stalls. I was in one stall. A woman comes in chatting on the cell phone, goes into the adjoining cell, sits down and proceeds to have a loud conversation! I was appalled! I was so upset I got up and made a comment about lack of good sense to another woman who was just coming in and stormed out. Am I being old fashioned to feel my privacy was invaded by this woman? Do people have any common sense and sense of propriety anymore?
