    Hi I am Terri
I joined yesterday this is my third post. I have been looking around and I really like what I have seen so far.
I am in my 40's and have been trying to make better choices and taking better care of myself since Oct. 07. I am looking forward to getting to know others here and I love to see all the inspirational stories.

  • Hi Terri and
  • Welcome Terri!!

mstigger: A graduation! How fun. Is he graduating from High School? (maybe I missed that somewhere)

  • Welcome Terri. This is a nice friendly bunch lots of support and chat.

I've just been upstairs and tried on a bunch of clothes that didn't fit me 2 months ago. They fit me now Some of them still have the tags on them from 2 years ago.

My daughter is a bit better. She went out with me this morning for about an hour and she was shattered by the time we got home. That's the first time she went out since getting sick. I think she will be on the couch for the weekend.

Diane is that your turn as team mum over? It's a lot of work.

Tigger, your son is graduating, have a wonderful time tonight. It's always nice when they do it outside but that might be a bit toasty.

Lovn my youngest went to see "Kung-Fu Panda" last weekend with her dad. They enjoyed it.

Big weekend for me. I'm going to see the Cardinals on Sunday. My first major league baseball game I'm so excited. I need to get a new shirt to wear. I have a Jim Edmonds shirt but he's playing for the Cubs now so I want to get a new one. It's gonna be a hot day. Our seats are in the first base field box. Go Cards.
  • Hello Everyone!!

I will start my post by admitting that i only read the first page of posts before skipping to the last page so i've missed lots of people's posts, but i only have so much time at the moment. I'm determined to get to Curves for a 3rd time this week before i have to pick my daughter up from school. I promise to return and read all the posts so i can be up to speed.

I joined in May and following the big site crash i found that i could create a weight sig tracker and signature and was thrilled to do so. I'm 48 and will be 481/2 in July, can you tell i have a young child? Actually my dd is 9 1/2 and not so concerned with the 1/2 stuff anymore. I guess i just haven't let go of that young kid lingo yet. In addition i have a husband, an almost 14 yo male cat and an almost 1yo golden retriever puppygirl.

We are originally from St. Louis, Mo. and a big chunk of our family and friends are there so all of you midwesterners are in my thoughts and prayers with all of the intense weather you've been having. We moved out to Western, Wa(Auburn to be more specific, which is about a 45 minute drive south of Seattle)coming up on two years this July. My hubbie, a commercial photographer, was laid off from his job in St. Louis and in the midst of trying to get an interview for a position in Wisconsin saw a notice for a photographer position with REI. He applied, they flew him out and interviewed him and hired him all over the course of a few weeks. Whew!! a whirlwind experience.

Sadly, though i've been a Curves member for about 3 years, i gained quite a bit more weight after moving here. I guess i'll chalk that up to stress and grief eating on top of poor eating and exercise habits. My daughter was born when i was 38. I was already overweight when i got pregnant, didn't gain more than the absolute minimum during pregnancy(due to a lot of indigestion and poor appetite). However after the benefits of breastfeeding ran their course my weight continued to creep up. I'd try some sort of a plan for a few days, take an exercise class here or there but was never able to stick to anything. The whole time i continued to read and learn more about what eating and exercising well meant, but wasn't ready somehow to build the habits that would lead to the kinds of changes i wanted.

I guess getting close to 50 and having my older siblings (11, 15 and 16 years older) get older, has brought home to me the reality that i'm not getting any younger. I, too(as another poster wrote) am determined to be healthier at age 50, or as healthy, as i was at age 30.

So here i am, continually thrilled by all of the wonderful support available at 3fchicks, and still looking for my home forums. I'm calorie counting, logging my foods, reforming my eating habits
and working towards a habit of 3workouts a week at Curves and 3 30 minute(for starters) brisk walks a week.

everyone for sharing. I'm excited and happy to be a part of the 3fatchicks community.

    "Seeya" soon

PS just love these smilies-can you tell
  • Hi Terri, Hi Alley! Welcome to our little group. You will find such great support here, not just for your weight issues, but everything else inbetween.

So...my son is on his first sleepover tonight! This is a big step for him. One of his autism-ish issues is the ability to make friends. It does not come easy for him. He's had to work so hard at making conversation and doing all the little things that you do to engage someone and get along. We non-challenged people just take it for granted...but for those kids who are "on the spectrum," it's behavior that has to be learned.

Anyway, in the past few weeks, he's really connected with one of his classmates. Not that they haven't been "friendly" all year in the classroom, but it's escalated recently, and now, DS is at this nice boy's house! I am SOOOO nervous but excited and happy. I sent him off with his overnight bag, and will have my heart in my mouth until he gets dropped off tomorrow morning. I don't think I'll sleep too well.

Clyde - congrats on attending your first ball game! It's a very different experience from watching it on TV. But I bet you'll enjoy it. There are so many sights and sounds to take in. I love going to Mets games. I can't wait to hear all about it! Are you going early enough to see batting practice? Make sure you wear a hat and sunscreen, and drink plenty of water. It's going to be great!
  • Welcome to the 40 somethings Ailey.

Mets I don't think we will see batting practise. There is a lot going on at the game Sunday. It's a tribute to a Cardinals employee who died earlier this year.
This game tonight is a nightmare.
  • Welcome to our group Ailey! I like the smilies too Thanks for opening up and sharing with us.

Slashnl-yes, my DS graduated from high school tonight. I will have to tell everyone of how my son almost didn't graduate, but not tonight. It's a long story. We just got home from the ceremony and now everyone is too amped up to go to bed!

Clyde-so glad that your daughter was able to get up for a while, even if she has to spend the rest of the weekend on the couch. Have fun at your ball game. It'll be hot, but the game will be so much more fun to watch that the heat won't be as bad!

Mets-that is so great for your son! I completely understand why you are nervous and excited at the same time. This is a big step for him. Try and get some sleep!

Good nite all! Tomorrow is a family shopping day. Should prove interesting.
  • Ailey: Welcome!! I am so glad you joined us. If you want to read all the other posts, that's great, but don't feel like you have to. None of us have that much time either, so we'll understand! We can repeat ourselves. I do it all the time!!! Ha! (Maybe that's because of my teenager who can't seem to hear what I say the first time....) Love your avatar, by the way.

Clyde: You are going to have a great time. I hope they win!! I'll be watching for the score and you'll have to tell us all about it.

Letsgo: That's really great about your son. I know that we all take things for granted that come easy for us but it can be a real challenge for others. I can't wait to hear how much fun he had!!

Tigger: My sister is struggling with getting her daughter through high school. It has really been a tough one for her and she still has 2 years left. I have to push my kids some, too, but I know it is a heartbreaking thing to have your kids struggle, regardless if it is grades, behavior, or whatever.

I need to do some grocery shopping today and then later on, we're going to my mother-in-law's old house to clear out the rest of her stuff. We need to get that place sold and get her stuff to her. She had a stroke awhile back and is living with my sister-in-law. When it became clear that she wasn't going to be able to live alone anymore, we started packing and sorting. Now comes the moving. It isn't a lot of stuff, so it won't be too bad. She lived in a trailer, so I'm hoping that it will sell easily. Our housing market is still strong here, so I think it will go fast. We're not expecting to get a lot out of it.

    Have a good weekend everyone.
  • I've been lurking
    Hi Everyone - My name is Donna, I'm 42 mother of 2 boys - 8 & 4.

I LOVE this site and I've been reading posts for the past 2 months or so and thought I'd say Hi

It sems my entire adult life i've been up and down with the same 30 pounds...i'm currently battling my way back down the scale and up the fitness ladder...I'm working out with a trainer twice a week and doing 45 minutes of cardio 5 -7 days a week. I've been successful since late April - i hope to be able to make this a permanent part of my life.

Thanks for listeneing I look forward to being part of the family

I hope things go well for your son. Oh I do understand the things parents take of granted and some of us don't see as easily. My son was the same way. The asbergers on top of the adhd made it very hard for him to socialize. He just didn't get and still doesn't get most of the time social ques.

    Ailey
WELCOME, we have a great group of people here full of support and inspiration. Thank you for sharing something about yourself with us. You will find we love to chat and hear what is going on in each other lives.

    Clyde
Glad she is feeling better. Yes, I bet she is a bit wiped out and needs a rest this weekend. Hope the game turns out great. I use to love to go see the Indians. 2.5 pounds gone. That is terrific.

    Welcome
Hope to hear from you often. We love new people around. Our old stories become new stories again

I have noticed, while my daughter always enjoyed watching sports, she seems to enjoy the nicer aspects of it these days like the mens body's lol. I told her you just wait until football season this year. SIGHHHH football hasn't been the same since Montana quit playing, that man had a nice tush lol.

    Lovn
I am in the middle of no where and yet in the middle of everywhere. I have to drive about 30 min to get anywhere and yet that isn't really that far. Nice to not have anything right on top of us. At least we do have a giant eagle and a few other stores within about 20 to 30 min drive of us.
  • Happy Saturday Everyone,

Sorry I haven't been around for a couple of days. The news was bad from the dr we expected it but still were being hopeful. So we've just been kind of burrowing in. DH has a CT scan tomorrow to see how big the tumor is, then we take the results to the surgeon and go talk to him. Not exactly the way I wanted to spend my summer.

On a good note even w/o exercising as much as I like to I was down 1.2 lbs this morning I loose really slow (and TOM is looming) so I'm really happy. Today we're going to a car show so that should be fun. I need to get up and get my potato salad made, we're taking a picnic dinner for my in-laws, who show their car there. Sort of a modified Father's Day thing.

Clyde - Congrats on the loss. Have fun at the game!

Letsgo - Hope your son had a fun night, and that you got some sleep.

MS - Congrats on your son graduating

Ailey, Donna, and Terri - Welcome

Shy - Guys are always a good reason to watch sports. Where I ride my bike the college guys run shirtless. Always a nice distraction (even if I'm old enough to be their mother )

Well, I've gotta go. Have a great weekend everyone.

  • Hi. I'm new here, and I hope it's OK if I just jump in. I'm Carol, I'm 46, single, and live in New York (where it's back to hot and humid again today, oh joy!).

I want to lose about 50-60 pounds, which is a bit scary. I finally got motivated about a week & a half ago, and since then I've lost 8 pounds (if only that kind of progress could be ongoing!).

Mostly I'm just fed up with being overweight. I have no good excuse, other than using food for comfort and/or boredom way more than I should have, and having a love for carbs, fatty foods, and soda. I work with people who are about 10-20 years younger than me for the most part, and it's bad enough being the older one, but being the fat one too...that's hard. To make it worse, I work at a ballet company, and have tiny ballerinas walking around all day too! I tend to be very sarcastic, and there's a lot of irony in being obese at a ballet company, but I'm having lots more trouble laughing it off than I used to.

So here I am. This seems like a really supportive place, and I'm glad to know there's an area for people our age. And to add to one of the current topics, I do color my hair. But I've actually been doing it in some form or another since I was about 16 (rebelling back then with a few streaks of pink). Now I do it to cover the gray, and to give it more pizazz.

Anyway, it's nice to meet you all! I look forward to chatting more!

    Carol
  • Well hi to everyone and thanks for the welcome. I have a question that im sure someone can answer...
I created my weight tracker a week or so ago and now i need to change it as i've lost another lb-yipee-but i'm not sure what to do. Do i just make a new one reflecting my weight change or is there something special i do to edit the current one? If there is someplace else i should be asking this question just type the word and i'll go there. Thanks so much.

Nice to have you with us. There are many reasons people gain weight. All that matters now is that we are together on this journey to a more healthy thinner person. We will be with you all the way as you find out you have more will power and determination than you think you have. Nice going on the weight loss so far.

I hope thing go well for your husband. Will sure keep him in my prayers. I think eye candy is the best reason to exercise. I find I do a lot more of the Leslie Sansone videos that have Jim in them than any of the rest of her videos lol. Hubby hears the music and yells, " ARE YOU WATCHING THAT MAN AGAIN LOL?" I yell back, "YES I AM!"
