Jessica, I liked the Handmaids Tale all right but though I like Atwood I tend not to want to reread her. Don't know why! Liked The Robber Bride too.

Ellis, I like Margaret Laurence a LOT but have only read some of her. A Bird in the House, mainly, so I had better read some more of her.

Someone I DO like to reread is dear old Edith Wharton - House of Mirth, Age of Innocence, and terrific short stories. DH got me into Graham Greene - I loved Brighton Rock, and he wrote great short stories too.

How come I can never remember all these must-reads when I am at the library?

Bumping up the book club!

I just bought the South Beach Diet book (I'm on day 2) and the new Dr. Phil book - a first for me- and I am looking forward to reading them both in depth.

Other than that I have spent the last 3 weeks studying French grammar and writing books and stress management books my head hurts!

How was the Red Tent? I saw that book in a store a couple of months ago and had thought of getting it but forgot about it.

I started reading Diary of a Geisha and then got sidetracked -oops!

I loved the Red Tent.....I could not put it down.......having grown up in a conservative Roman Catholic family I devoured the telling of the Book of Genesis told in Dinah's voice.....an intense and timeless story.

Memoirs of a Geisha was told in such an engaging way that I couldn't stop reading it...the content was difficult to read at times but is an excellent book.

My summer recommendations

Good Beach Book: Good in Bed by Jennifer Weiner. The story about an overweight woman who breaks up with her boyfriend who writes an monthly article called Good in Bed. He begins to write about what it was like to fall in love with a Fat girl!!

Good Alternative Book: Many Lives Many Masters. An amazing book that talks about reincarnation, this was written by a Psychiatrist who did not believe in reincarnation until he began working with this women with hypnosis.

Of course the Harry Potter books for Fantasy

Bridget Jones Diary will have laughing out loud.

I also read the book by Lisa Beamer, Let's Roll about the the woman who's husband helped down the plane in Pennsylvania, it was poignant.

I am about to begin a book called "Running with Scissors".

I wish that I had more time to read......

Hey, you Edith Wharton readers! I am not as weird as I thought! I read House of Mirth this summer, too.
And, I'm trying to get through some classics that I neer got around to reading before---Like Charlotte and Emily Bronte, and Jane Austen. Trying to make a classics collection for my bookshelves.

How about Edna Ferber? Does anyone read her? I read "Giant" this summer, and enjoyed it.
Chervata, I've got a shipload of classics that I've gathered over the years. Mostly from second-hand shops. I LOVE them. They're keepers. They're all in my living and dining rooms, and it makes me happy just to look at my filled bookshelves and think, "I love my books." There are a few that I still haven't read, and a goodly number that I re-read on occasion. I keep my trashy mysteries upstairs close to my bed.
