  • So, I'm actually wearing a pair of tall black Nine West boots right now, so I had to comment. I'm not sure what my calf size is but I'll measure when I get home. Back in my really heavy days in college (I got to 164, which is the largest I ever was) there was no way, NO WAY, I could get a boot around my calf. I have very muscular legs. I was runner from birth. My calves always looked lean and toned, but they were big. My thighs have always been thunder thighs. That's the one thing I want to change about myself (I'm actually about to start a thread about that next).

Anyways, point being, once I got down to 150 and below, I can wear boots. They have to be real leather though, so they stretch around my calf, but I actually wear boots all the time now. I just got complimented on this pair by a girlfriend, and checked out by a million guys on my way to school.

So, cake batter, give yourself 20 pounds or so, and I GUARANTEE you will be able to fit into some sexy boots.

  • i know this is old, but i just had to measure

my right calf is just a smidge under 16 inches
and my left is a very healthy 16 inches

SHEESH! tells me a few things: 1. yes my calves are big just as ive always thought!! but 2. im not alone in this
  • Did you check out www.torrid.com? They have shoes and boots that are designed for wider calves and feet... and some of them are wicked-cute!
  • I can't do the boots either without having on a pant (whether it be capri length or full length) that covers the top. My legs are the thicker variety. My calves measure 15.5! They are strong though--it's just what God gave me.
  • Mine are 15 inches...and I wear a size 1-2 in little girls!! I can never find boots. Even when I was underweight I only had a short pair so I don't think I'll ever find a tall pair. The only circumference I've seen listed on my size of boot is 11 inches. That certainly isn't going to happen.
  • Hi Ladies,

I used to work at an upscale shoe store, and I was told by a buyer that knee-high boots are designed to be considerably smaller than the "average" calf- specifically, she told me that only about 10% of women can actually zip them up! So, don't feel like you're in the minority if you're unable to find a pair of boots that fit around your calf- it doesn't mean you have "fat" calves!! It's not us, it's them

Also, in response to this issue, most shoe stores offer "stretching" services- most leather boots can be stretched at least a few inches, and most stores will do this for free when you buy something.
  • legs have never been a problem area for me, fat-wise, but my calves have always been huge, like muscle torpedoes. i had absolutely no expectation of trying to decrease their circumference because i just didn't think it was possible so i didn't give it a second thought. they've just always been really thick. however, recently i noticed that my boots are fitting slightly looser. i was gonna say that it IS possible to lose there, except, as i'm typing this, it occurs to me that i don't know if the decrease in circumference (which is extremely slight. i dont' want to overstate it. but it IS something) is due to weight loss or if it is due to the exercises i'm doing with my physical therapist to loosen up the calf muscles and relieve the shin splint situation. hmm...
  • Haha, this thread just made me measure my calves and count me in for the fat calves club! 16.5" here! But they are super toned. I'm sure there's some fat to be lost there too, but I looked at myself on the elliptical today and saw all of the definition in my legs and was amazed! Haha.

As far as boots go, I've got a pair of doc martens that lace up mid calf (and zip on the sides) that work well and I actually bought a pair of knee high stiletto boots by Rampage that worked, but I think it was just that the leather was pretty stretchy... I never wore them though because I still felt unsteady on stilettos at 200 lbs this winter when I bought them (I had lusted after them for so long and they were on clearance! I couldn't resist!)... haha. Maybe next fall!

So, I just measured my calves and they are 15". Not small by any measure. And I'm 5'2ish. So, I think it's about paying a little more for nice pliable leather.
  • I have been reading this thread for a couple days now but haven't had a measuring tape around to measure them calves!

But I do today... I am 15". Still a bit big for them knee highs. But I have big calves to begin with since I have been walking/hiking since Grade 10 (so... 7 years ago?). Although, I have been noticing them get smaller since I started losing weight. So, I do believe that I will soon someday fit into sexy knee highs (one of my goals)!!!
