  • Cat-

I was just reading about the benefits of taking a couple tablespoons of Brewers yeast daily for better glucose management. I was trying to figure out if I want to take Brewers or just nutritional yeast, which has more B vitamins. Either one tastes nasty and I plan to mask in a bit of pineapple juice. Maybe it would help your diabetes! I don't have diabetes but am taking that and Cod liver oil just for natural vitamins/health benefits.
  • I'm on my ninth week doing 5/2 as well as calorie counting and watching carbs and things have slowed way down. My body didn't want to drop into the 180s easily last time I tried to lose weight and I ended up losing my will power and regaining 15 of the 30 pounds lost. Here I am again and, once again things have slowed. The fast days do help me reset for the week, which I didn't have last time. I need to push through! 190.2 this morning. lol
  • Well, I made it through the week. Did quite good,
stop eating at 8pm until 2 the next day. Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. wasn't too bad. found it easier to go without everything than to eat little bits will see what a scales say in the morning. Hope everyone else is going ok.
  • I don't know if it's the IF or my cold, but I can listen to my body more and stop when I'm full. Usually I can destroy a WHOLE thing of mac and cheese and I couldn't finish it. Same for chocolate mousse and some white castle and Taco Bell I had.
  • I was doing the same lol. But now I find I am eating less even after a fast. But what I lost in that first week I have gain most of it back lol. Am on holiday and for some reason just can't stick to a fast. Seems a lot easier if I am working . Keeping the mind busy and all that. Heck look at your ticker you are doing so well. Better get my A into G. and do something.
RIGHT getting off butt Now!!!!! and going to gym. Will start fast again at 8 tonite. Thanks for posting you have got me going again
  • It is certainly a lot easier when you are working. That's true for me at least. When I'm vacationing, I try to be mindful but don't worry too much about it.
  • So here's my story --

My weight seems to want to stick at around 174. This just seems to be my "place" and it's so hard to budge. Over the course of last year, I gained up to 184 and thought NOOOO, this cannot happen.

Over 5 months, I managed to drop 10 pounds - back to 174.

Over the summer after a couple of good vacations I found myself hovering around 178. And thought - NOOO this cannot happen!

So I read about 5:2 and gave it a try, starting on August 19. I was so happy that right off the bat I dropped quickly and was back to 174.

However, here we are in October and I'm just not losing anymore. I am sticking at that 174 mark. After a fast day I will drop to 172 or 173. Over the course of the week I will slowly go back up to 174. Then fasting again - and back to 172 or 173.

I'm getting pretty tired of this rollercoaster.

Is anyone else experiencing this on 5:2? I'm thinking it doesn't seem to work very well for me, but then I have a terrible time shedding pounds. I am 58, 5'2". I take some medications which slow my metabolism and can cause weight gain.

    Thanks for any input,
    Kris
  • Hey Kris,

I've been doing 5:2 for about 9 weeks and using it alone would not be enough for me. I still have to track everything and keep a calorie budget on my nonfast days. The fasting days are wonderful for reining in my appetite and resetting me for the week. I'd say start tracking everything for a week and see how it goes. Then you can tweek it from there.
  • Hello everyone.....

I hate to barge in, but I just recently started looking into IF and I think I'd do well on it. I was thinking about the 6:18 plan to start with and maybe move in to a 5:2 one day when I am more comfortable? I am used to skipping breakfast and my lunch break starts at 1.

I haven't eaten anything after 8, so this week I've stuck to it mostly without even meaning too. I've only lost about 2 lbs. I say only. I've probably dropped more, but my monthly hates me and my weigh in day isn't till Sun so nothing counts till then. I am eating 800 to 1200 calories during my non fasting hours. To be honest, I'm hungry all the time, even after eating a full meal. I think that's more in my head than actual hunger and it goes away pretty quick. I'm not intentionally trying to eat just 800 calories btw, that's just what I end up with after all is said and done. The last two days have been 1200 or slightly over.

Am I doing this right? Any help is appreciated.
  • Hi everyone. I've had an on again, off again relationship with intermittent fasting in the past few years. I was waiting until a new thread was started since the post count is almost close to 500, but thought what they hey, I'll just jump in.

I've never been much a of a breakfast eater and in fact, eating something after waking up makes me feel nauseous and downright lethargic all over again. My main meal is in the afternoon between 2-3 pm. I don't pay attention to calories and macros although I know eating this way reduces the amount of calories I take in for the most part. I try to make healthier choices and most days will eat quite healthy but I don't deprive myself. I eat until I'm satisfied. I'm usually okay at nights. I find I sleep much better on an empty stomach and sleep soundly though out the night.

This approach has worked so well for me in the past yet I keep succumbing to the advice people keep giving me about eating several mini meals a day. I find myself obsessing about food and watching the clock for the next time I can eat again. With IF, I can eat once a day and be done with it and move on with my life.

I never worked out before this but I've decided to start running. It's hard, really hard. The first time I ran was on yesterday. I managed to run for 2 30-second intervals but only managed to walk the rest of the way. I'm hoping to run on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and be able to run a little longer each time.
  • Hi LadyPetite, I am new here too. actually I will come back later, just saw it's 11.00 am and I will go to the gym before it closes at 1pm.
    I'LL BE BACK LOL
  • Hi MaryL. This thread seems to be a bit quiet.
  • Hiya LadyPetite, I see yr ticker is moving quite fast Well Done!
LOL When I said I would be back I never meant this long. Decided to skip out of town for a few days and go fishing.
Hubby and I are on a school break for 2 weeks and I have not been able to stick to anything. But back to work tomorrow and it will be much better. Will start a fast tonite at 9 to 1pm Monday. Which gives me 16 hours. Then I can eat just before I pick up my school kids at 2.30.
Don't know about the gym yet will see how I go. Have a great day people.
  • Thanks, MaryL! I've always had amazing success with IF in the past but always kept reverting back to mini meals because people in my life thought eating the way I had been was unhealthy.
  • Marking this to come back to read...without thinking about it, I guess I've been IF for my whole diet (Atkins-like, low-slob carb) I don't feel like eating until well after 1-3p and don't eat past about 8-9 at night, so I guess I sorta do fast (didn't know that's what it was called until just now!!!) 16/8 or there abouts.

Very interesting- coming back to read more in a bit!!

Great info so far- keep up the good work, Folks!
