Can't believe it...I finally got through a day on less than 1400 calories and less than 12 carb servings! The way I've been eating, that's pretty good Just was really careful all day. Still not exercising due to my pain, but hope to get back to it soon. Only took one muscle relaxant today and no paid meds although I did hurt, but was able to manage and even was able to do a little stretching.

Glynne - No nothing new on the house.

Rosey - glad you're enjoying quality time with your gs. Sounds like a smart, fun kid.

Slmn - I'm kinda like you with pain meds too. I probably should take some right now but I keep thinking I'll wait til bedtime. But when it helps me I feel so much better and think why didn't I do that earlier?

Bobbi - I paid $115 for the one with ads...which don't bother me at all. I hardly notice them. I got the charger with it but I did buy a cover for it. My understanding this is the same as the $79 one but I could be wrong. As far as I know the only one (Kindle) that lights up is the Kindle Fire. My dd has a Nook and she loves it. Lighted is fine except in bright sunlight. Mine is great in sunlight and everywhere except the dark, but I don't usually read in the dark anyway. I might like to read in bed when I can't sleep but a lighted screen would bother dh. I know because I've tried reading on my phone

Marie - If my back or head gets worse I will go in to see my doctor, but I really think I'm getting better just slowly. Might just be due to sitting too much at the computer even though it doesn't usually start after I have been sitting. The last two times it's started when I was walking out of Costco...not carrying anything and not pushing a cart...and this time it started when I got into the car. So I don't understand it. It occurs about once or twice a year and is very painful but this episode was different in that my neck and head were involved as well as my back. Since I enter sweeps online I do sit a lot. I think the pain has eased enough that I can do more stretching and that may help too. It's been a rough two weeks! I appreciate your support and encouragement so much as well as all you other GGs!! Nice to know someone cares. My dh cares but he's too close and it bothers him that he can't help me.

Speaking of, he's calling me to watch TV with him.

Bobbi, I like to exercise. I am not crazy about stretching, but I do it because I know how much benefit I get from it. Find a few simple stretches and find a good time to do them. You will be amazed how quickly they work.

Marie, I hope you had a good day just "gorking". sometimes we just need those days.

Rosie, Pleased to hear that you are your DGS are having fun. It's good to get the kids ideas on things sometimes. And by that age they have some kid, some adult ideals.

Mary, I'm not a big fan of pain. Pain is another vital sign. I don't like pain and it's really not good for you. I know that sounds silly, but if you think about it, it does make sense. You can't do the things you need to do, including exercising, it puts a lot of stress on you, which causes a lot of harm. Go to the Dr. and have it checked out, just to make sure. and take your meds.

Karen, How kind of you to think of your aunt on her anniversary. I'm sure she appreciates it. Have fun.

Carol Sue, See the above post to Mary. Actually, very few people get addicted pain medication taken for pain. Just a question about what you said about feeling good after taking one. Do you feel better because there is no pain, or do you like the way it makes you feel? That might be your guide.

Woke up early ~ wanted to sleep some more, but I was wide awake, so I got up. Probably about the time it is time to leave for work, I’ll be wanting to crawl back under the covers.

Bobbi ~ sorry your eyes have been giving you trouble. Maybe I am silly, but I think I would feel better to be told it was due to old age, than that it was because of some brain tumor or something. The people in the pictures are my son Jason (he is my oldest one and the biological one) and his girlfriend Amber. Sara (my middle child ~ adopted from Korea ~ joined our family when she was 5 months old) and her husband Robert, son Corbin and little daughter Maddie. And my youngest daughter Jennifer (also adopted from Korea ~ joined our family when she was almost 3 years old) and her husband Mike and their little daughter Evie.

I have restless leg syndrome. I didn‘t know I had it until I had the sleep study. It was part of the reason I was not sleeping well. I guess they wiggle and jump while I am asleep and wake me up ~ keep me from resting well (along with the sleep apnea). I take a medicine also to help it that is a Parkinson‘s medicine. I do sleep better with it.

DH has one of the tablet things (HTC flyer) that can be used as a reader. He takes it with him when he kid sits Maddie. While she takes her nap, he can check his e-mail, and on-line banking etc. He has loaded kids games on it, and downloaded some kid books that he and Maddie read together. It also has a camera, and a web cam so you could do Skype. It is smaller than an I-pad and not as heavy. You could put it in a purse. He loves it. He did a lot of research before buying it. Read lots of reviews of different tablets, went to the store and actually tried them. He was originally looking at the Kindle fire, but the sound wasn’t as good on that one. It does lots more ~ can get on the internet. It cost more than the Kindle, but he felt that it was worth the extra because of all it can do.

Off to do some more getting ready. One day down ~ two to go, then off the weekend. Yippee.

the slim me - You hit the nail on the head about my pain meds. I don't think I'm in enough pain for narcotic pain meds, but I like the way it makes me feel. I don't think I've taken enough to be addicted, but I can easily see how it could happen. And Marie, I don't want to tell the doctor about my fear of addiction because I have a bigger fear that he won't give me any more! LOL Last night I went to bed without a Percocet. I slept fitfully and took 2 Tylenol in the middle of the night. Now that most of the staples are out I don't have as much pain as I was having before, just when I move around in bed it hurts in a couple places. The pain I have is comparable to the normal aches and pains I have day to day. I am able to do most everything. I am wearing a binder, which is stretchy like a girdle and wraps around your midsection and fastens with velcro. It helps with the pain because it keeps my belly from jiggling. Because of this, I can't bend over very well, plus the fact that I don't want to risk pulling the incision apart. I have been out shopping several times. I would like to go to the casino, but to get the daily nurse care, I am supposed to be home-bound. DH and I are able to change bandages, but 2 wounds have to be packed and although he watched them do that in the hospital, I really don't want him doing it. So I want to keep the home nurse as long as my insurance will cover it.

Maryea, I think your pain is something different. I have had that in the past when I was having back problems. It is definately PAIN and only meds are going to help you feel better until you heal. I do hope things improve for you.

Bobbi - I have a Pandigital Planet. It is a tablet. I mainly use it as a reader, but it can get on the internet, it has a camara and storage for pictures, which I haven't tried yet. It runs around $150. My DIL has one and recommended it, and it was on sale at Kohls and I had $$$ off and %%% off coupons. The only reason I got it is because I found out I can download books from the library at no cost, and I can do it from my home computer. Don't even have to go to the library! It is color. It has a switch to change it from day reading to night reading. I like that. Day reading is a white background with black letters, and night reading is a black background with white letters. I almost always use the night side because it's not really bright in our house and it's easier for me to see it. It does not do well in sunlight. That requires a totally different feature. If that's important to you, make sure yours has it before you buy.

Okay-dokay....and they said you can't teach an old dog new tricks...here I am on GG's via foxfire! gessh, does it spellcheck as you type? hummmmmmm!

Bobbi...The $79 kindle doesn't have the jack/cord to recharge the battery. That's the +20 for it. It is a good buy if you go with Kindle. You probably only need a light screen if you do games, etc. Dh has trouble with neuropathy in both hands but can work the Kindle....just hasn't figured out where his index is and I was able to put all his new books there before Christmas as a surprise. He was carrying around 8 new books and didn't notice.

Am finally on the count-down and have 5 days left on this series of antibiotics. Blah...morning sickness for 3 weeks is not fun. I finally broke down and bought some cokes. Sipping a little for a hour seems to stop my tummy from rolling. I just won't count calories until next week.

Been reading about your lives, but too much to even attempt personals! We are busy busy people. We have been having a wonderful Fall....actually more like Spring until today and the temp is going only be in the 60's. But back to warmer by the weekend. Think instead of going out for dinner i'll make Maryland crab cakes here at home. Be cheaper to go out!

Well, as of right now it pretty much looks like our move is not happening! And I'm OK with that. They sent us their report of what they want done --- new roof, new paint, new chimney liner, new garage door, and they want all the electrical sockets to be GFI--- I guess maybe they want a NEW house!! We signed the paper and sent it back and said we weren't doing any of that, we came down on our price and agreed to pay up to $2500 of their closing costs--- enough is enough. So the ball is in their court now. Pretty sure we will be staying right here. And that is fine. Really love the other house but love this one too. Time to see how bad they want this one! I woke up with a headache again today. I am wearing my old glasses since I did the faceplant in Sept. so guess I really need to get new glasses..Grrrrrr!!

I'm at DS's still. Did I mention it's like Candy Land here? And good stuff, too. Not that cheap stuff.

When I get home I'm going to clear out all the Christmas food but I may have a New Year's Eve party first. That should take care of some of the excess food. I can watch my diabetic friends gorge themselves on sweets and high carbohydrate foods. I don't do that on purpose. I usually make them something special and allowable (like a sugar free pie or trifle) but they seem to gravitate towards the sweets. I have one friend who takes 4 insulin needles a day and another who is heading that way. Neither one of them seems to watch what they eat. I'm thinking of doing chili and rice as it's easy and relatively inexpensive and a real self-serve type of meal. And I have everything in cupboards, frig and freezer to make it without any shopping. Yes, chili it is. Any left-overs can be frozen for another day; so that makes it practical as well. And for dessert there is a huge selection of cookies and ice cream in the freezer. And gobs of chocolate and caramel syrups and whipped topping to top off any ice cream.

DH wants to use the computer so I'll sign off and continue planning in my head. Catch you later.

Bobbi you have to have the wireless to download books to the e-reader. I wonder if you can plug it into your USB port and do it that way? Never thought of doing that as I do have wireless in my home. Or you can buy the 3G (think that's the one...the one with wireless built into it) and you'll have the wireless with the e-reader. That one costs more though. Bobbi to have a wireless network all you need is a wireless modem or router. If you don't already have one you can probably get from your internet provider. Mine doesn't cost anymore than the nonwireless I used to have. I use it for my iPhone as well. Now I wish I had a wireless printer!

Sitting here eating plain yogurt with a bit of honey and diced up 1/4 of large apple. Not bad. Trying to be good again today. Dropped 1.2#this am, but that still leaves me almost 11# to get down to where I was before Thanksgiving. Grrrr..why do I do this to myself I was hungry when I went to bed last night so I ate 4 cashews and felt better and was still ok with my calories and carbs. I actually know I feel better when I don't overeat and I felt proud of myself.

Retiredone - My dh loves chili and rice! It is hard for us diabetics to get to the point of realization that we just cannot eat so many carbs any more. I still struggle with it.

Zoe - How nice to get tires for Christmas! LOL when I was younger I wouldn't have thought that way but now I'd certainly appreciate them! Zoe, I love retirement! The main thing is to keep busy but once you retire you can keep busy doing what you enjoy not what you have to do. That's the difference to me. Some people can't handle retirement...they don't know what to do...I find more than enough to fill my days and I love it all because it's my choice.

Slim One - You're right about pain. I think it is a sign that somethings wrong...but may just be that I sit too much, I don't know. But I've been to the doctor before for this same pain (well the back, not the neck/head) and he can't determine cause just gives me muscle relaxant. If it lasts much longer I'll go in though. If it persists I'll be concerned it is something more. I just think it's gradually going away so I'm waiting for now.

Well, better close this...I have a few more things to do on the computer and then want to get off it a while.
