  • Quote: I have been cycling back and forth between Ideal protein and Adkins and one thing I can tell you for sure is that THAT does not work..lol
I didnt get the results as fast on Adkins as I did on IP so I went back to IP for 3 weeks, and the second time around is hard. I decided because I run also that I need to stick to Adkins.
I can say that I lost more faster with Ideal Protein but long term I believe that Adkins is something I can live with and afford.
Thanks for that reply. I think I have made peace with losing slower but gaining variety, the ability to work out, and saving money on Atkins. Do you recommend phasing off of IP into Atkins?
  • I made the switch. Weight loss is slow but worth it. I can eat more and feel better. My hair was falling out doing the IP and it has stopped falling out now. I think it was due to my body thinking it was starving. Now I eat if I am hungry and I eat REAL food. I still have 15 lbs to lose, but when I get there I will stick to Atkins. Just one bit of info, do Atkins by the book. I use the Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) 2002 version. That is the one that Dr. Atkins wrote before his death. The new books allow you to eat the Atkins frozen foods and bars that came out AFTER Dr. As death. New gimmicks to make the company money.....
  • That's good to hear that you successfully made the switch. My husband and I have done Atkins in the past and though our success on IP has been wonderful so far the cost of both of us doing it is getting too much. Plus, I want to be able to work out more AND eat avocados!!

You mentioned your weight loss was slow but I am wondering if you gained at first when switching to a higher daily fat?
  • From February to October 2014 I lost 90+ pounds on Ideal Protein. I did. Well until the end of November when I shopped at a bake sale. I followed that with my own Christmas baking. I went on a downward sugar spiral. I kept trying to kickstart back on IP and had some success but I couldn't stay on it. I put on 18 pounds. DH decided he was ready to diet and wanted Atkins so I said I would join him. I started Friday and by Monday morning I was down 7 pounds. All inflammation.

I loved IP. I did go over in my fats while doing it but consistently lost 10 pounds a month. I didn't struggle during my initial weight loss but I can't return to it for some reason. I'm hoping I can stick to Atkins. They are very similar.
  • I was doing modified IP and lost about 40 lbs that way over 2012-2013. By modified I mean I didn't buy any of their foods but rather just researched what the ratios were supposed to be for carb/fat/protein and tried to stick to those as best as possible. I just found it way too restrictive and low carb diets are restrictive anyway, so I've been going on and off Atkins WOE for the past few months. It just makes me feel better to not get bogged down in tracking every minute detail of my eating. The one thing I will say were IP WOE was stellar was focusing on veggies big time. Too much of the time on Atkins, people can just sort of forget about trying to squeeze in a good amount of veggies per day.

I probably don't even do Atkins the way I should, but that's because I did Atkins back in 2001/2002 and lost 55 lbs back then and I still remember basically what dinners worked for keeping on plan. So I don't track myself, I just stick to lots of protein, throw in a few cups a day of low carb veggies (or at least try), stay away from loads of sugar alcohols, and not worry too hard about fat.
  • I did not phase off of Ideal Protein,I just went directly to Adkins,it is so similar that it wasn't hard to do. I did not gain weight when I made the switch but initially I didn't lose. I am still doing Adkins and I would say I lose a average of 2 pounds a week, really not that much less then I did with IP. I do have a Adkins bar for breakfast when I am working but I try to stick with protein and veggies. I am watching my fat more and drinking tons of water so that was a positive that I learned from IP.
