I have been running for approx. 4 or 5 years, so I guess I was around 44 or 45 when I started. I started out walking 5 min, then running 30 sec--doing this for about 20 min. Gradually, just start walking less and running more. Increase the running weekly. Don't do it too quick, or it will burn you out. Go over to

www.coolrunning.com. I log all my runs on both boards. I've gone 598 miles this year!! Not bad for an old hag!
