  • I'm going to check out the smoky mt site!
  • Quote: My skin is UBER sensitive. I've tried Victoria Jackson's, Clinique, L'Oreal, you name it (expensive, I've tried it), and it always causes redness and irritation. I started Bare Essentials about 2 months ago and I'm totally in love. You'll have to pry it out of my cold, dead hands. LOL

Does it not make your face look shiney? I went to Sephora and had them put some Bare Essentials on me, but when I got home I realized that I looked very shiney, almost "glittery" or something. They also put on the mineral veil; was that it? I really wanted to love it because I'm fascinated by it but I couldn't get past the kind of glittery look.

The "shiney" look from BE is due to it containing Bismuth, which is also the reason you must "buff" it into your skin. I've also heard complaints BE causing itching.
SMM does not contain bismuth, does not require "buffing" and has never made me itch. They are talc-free, dye-free, preservative-free, chemical-free, fragrance-free
  • It does not look shiny. At all. Not even hours later. Perhaps you got a summer "shimmer" type? And I use the mineral veil. THAT is what keeps it looking the same all day long. It's the only thing in which the blush doesn't disappear by lunchtime. Nose never gets shiny. It looks, eight hours later, EXACTLY like it looked when I applied it. Nothing itches, and like I said, my face is VERY VERY sensitive.

    What do I use?

    1. after washing my face, I apply their mosturizer. Before I even dry my hair.
    2. when I'm ready to start my make-up, I apply the Prime Time. That stuff feels AMAZING when it goes on.
    3. Then I use the "light" and the smaller brush to do any redness cover-up. Which now, is almost nothing unless some tomatoes slip into my diet by accident.
    4. Then I use the largest brush to apply the "fairly light" as the main foundation. Remember for all of it you are supposed to put a tiny amount in the lid, gently swirl the brush in it, THEN TAP IT OFF back into the lid. A tiny bit goes a long, long way.
    5. Then I use the 2nd largest brush to apply the blush.
    6. Follow up, using the largest brush, to apply the mineral veil.
    7. After doing rest of hair and dressing, sometimes I add a tad more blush (I'm so pale.)

p.s. the "buffing"....? It simply means that you apply it with the brush, rather than blotting on your face. Not like "buffing" a car or anything.

The "buffing" procedure is basically working a small amount of the minerals into the brush until they disappear into the bristles...tapping off any excess...and then working the minerals into your skin working the brush in a circular motion.
  • Not much work, though. It just glides right on. I'm not circling my face over and over.

Well, it's good to know I won't have to purchase any special auto-body equipment! I don't think I got a summer shimmer type, but I can't say for sure as the Sephora girl put it on me. It wasn't really glittery, so much....there was just a sheen that I can't quite describe. It could have been the wrong shade, I suppose.

I'm using mineral makeup from Target, but I can't say I'm totally happy with it.
  • Quote: If you go to Everday Minerals you can order a free sample kit. They let you pick your colors, 5 different items I believe, just charge shipping. It cost me $3 to ship and I got 3 foundations, a cheek color and a concealer. I haven't loved any of the other mineral makeup I've tried, and I've tried a lot of different ones from Target, so this gave me an inexpensive way to try the more expensive stuff.. Haven't used it yet - just got it this week.
    Shannon,
Thank you so much for the information. I sent away for my samples and they came yesterday. The one I wore today was perfect for my "summer" skin. I have never worn mineral make-up before, but I found it easy to apply and it looked so natural my husband was amazed. He said my skin tone was so smooth and he could not tell I was wearing make-up to even the tone out. Now I just have to figure out what my rest of the year pale shade is.
  • Has anyone with slightly oily/combination skin tried to use mineral foundations? I've been interested in them for awhile, but I've read a bunch of reviews that caution against people with oily skin using the mineral foundations. Right now I use Clinique Work Out Makeup or Almost Makeup foundations and both of those last all day on me with little to no oiliness. I worry that a mineral foundation might look good when it is first applied and then absorb the oil off of my skin and start to look shiny or streaky. I should also mention that I live in Florida and it is very, very humid down here for most of the year. :-(

Yes, my skin is oily/combination and I've been using mineral foundation for years now.
I've learned the "secret" is to apply a thin layer of veil (I use Be Flawless Matte Veil by Smoky Mtn Minerals) first, before applying the actual foundation & then applying a thin layer over the foundation....works perfectly
