I love it too...I just wish I had more consistent results. The first month, my bg levels were PERFECT. They have been creeping up the last few months. I am not sure if it is the pen, or that I need to move up to the ten pen. I don't go to the doctor for my lab results (done today) until October 2, but I see the NP when I go...what is up with that? I would MUCH rather talk to a doctor than an NP...but I will see about moving up then. I am hoping that will allow me to drop the Amaryl and perhaps see the weight loss start up again.

I am tempted to eat two reg meals w/byetta and a few small snacks in between, when I get hungry. I"ve lost 3 lbs but my numbers were not good the last two mornings. I did nibble pizza yesterday. With the stomache empting slow, do we need 5 or 6 small meals? I eat one plate and put it in the sink or i'll keep eating-then oooooh-you know.

Default New Byetta user...

Hello ladies! This has been an amazing resource for some research!! After years of not budging (much) with regards to my weight, my doc and I have decided to givr Byetta a try. I am insulin resistant, borderline diabetic, and have PCOS. I'm hoping to get some weight off, as this is something the fertility specialist thinks will help with my chances of conceiving. Anyone out there had any experiences with any of this? PCOS, infertility, ect? I've been getting pretty discouraged lately. It's nice to find a place that I can chat with other people who may be experiencing some similar things... Kodiak is small, and it's tough to find good support!! Thanks so much for being here!

ALASKA: It does help to know you are not the only one! Check out the PCOS forum on here too. They have a lot of great articles, and support on there for those with PCOS. I do know a low carb diet helps, and my husband's cousin was able to conceive and have the child she has so desperately wanted, following it. I hope the Byetta helps! I have read there is some evidence of it actually doing some healing of IR.

Default Thanks...

I appreciate the quick response! I know I've already said this, but it's great to have a support system... today was my first shot of Byetta. I am a nurse at a clinic and the doc I work for and I spent our dinner hour reading directions! We've both heard great things about it, and read all kinds of info on it, but haven't actually prescribed or used it ourselves!! So, we went over it... not hard of course, just wanted to make sure I was doing it right. It's nice to read through these blogs and hear what people have done and what worked for them! I wish everyone the best of luck and health... I'm available and would love to answer any medical questions anyone has if it's helpful. Let's put those years of schooling to good use! Thanks again!!

Thumbs up Welcome!!

Welcome Alaskanurse!
So glad to have you aboard!

If I get too queezy, I pop a Tums Sugar Free. It helps and is calcium based, I believe. I know you have to stay away from another kind of anti-acid, listed it the info w/the Byetta. Might save you upchucking at work. Actually it reminds me of morning sickness queezyness.
You may find it worse when you are working. I sat at the table setting up a solitar game and mine got worse with the movement. You tend to get used to it suddenly bugging you. It does get better and if you don't eat too big a meal, not too bad. with it.

I did byetta for a year. I lost 10 pounds. But after a year of being nauseated, tired and having frequent headaches, I said enough. So now Im on insulin. If you have no side effects, its great stuff. I wish I could have stayed on it, as my blood sugars were as close to a non-diabetic as they could be.

My weight is comming off but, my numbers are still in the low 200's.
I can get it down with Actos but I get the munchies and bloating and water weight. I don't want to go back to that. I take the generic Amaryl.
How many small meals do you eat with Byetta?

Carol, I find I do best with eating just three, and not snacking. I tend towards a larger breakfast, then a smaller lunch and dinner. If I am hungry in the afternoon, I will have something healthy, like carrots and some low fat ranch dressing to dip them in. The worst meal for me to 'over eat' at is dinner. I sleep poorly, and feel nauseated all night if I do.

I got up at 4am today and came to my office as I didn't want to eat yet. I went down at 8 and all I had was a cup of coffee in those 4 hours. I got a surprise, I was 165. Maybe I'm not actice enough at night for it to be down in the morning.

Hi all~ New here...

I'm wondering how late at night is okay to take the injection. Does it even matter?

TURLER71: My understanding is that it does no good to take Byetta unless you take it before a meal, and the optimum time is 30 to 45 minutes before the meal. Personally, I have taken it as late as 8 and eaten a half an hour later, but then I felt ill all night, and did not sleep well. It does slow down digestion, so you can feel indigestion all night if you go to sleep soon after you shoot and eat. You might want to ask your doctor, and even check out the Byetta web pages to see if you can find more info on how late it is recommended to take it. I do know the shots need to be at least 6 hours apart....

Thanks for the reply Monet!

I have only been on it for a few days now. Wasn't hungry, so I didn't take my shot. Then I got hungry around 7:00 pm. I know it peaks in two hours from the time of injection, so I was worried about not feeling well at bedtime. Well, here it is, almost 12:30 am and I am wide awake---I gave myself the shot at 7:30 pm. Now I can't sleep. Oh well, live and learn!

I really hope the once a week injection gets approved. This is kind of a pain, especially when I'm out and about, don't have it with me, etc.

Wow, listen to me complain! I am actually quite hopeful that this will be the breakthrough I've needed. I just need to get exercising now...if only I could have the energy in the morning when I get up!

Thanks again!
