Ems, my b-day is mid July. I'm gonna make it work this year.

Even though it's bitter friekin cold outside, I took my puppy for an extra 15 minute walk tonight. That was tough, because I absolutely hate being cold. And it was more than just a walk. We've got 5-6 inches of fresh snow on the ground right now, so it wasn't exactly easy. But it was 15 minutes more than I did yesterday.

Today was one of those days where out of coincidence (and yesterday too ended up being like this) where I really ate a lot more protein than normal. I've wanted to be more vegetarian always so I tend to eat a lot more "natural" and "unprocessed" carbs like black beans, brown rice, vegetables, stuff like that.

But the last couple of days, I've had more meat products, less grains, and I've lost weight faster than expected.

I'm wondering if I am eating too many carbs, even if they are whole grain carbs.....

hmmmm.....

It's nice not to feel hungry either....

I'll update later this week/tomorrow if I continue to lose weight.

So, this morning I had to take my car into the shop and spend a wad of cash on new tires, an alignment, and an oil change. Would rather have slept, but I have to be able to get to work somehow. Since it was going to be at least a 2 hour wait, I grabbed my handy-dandy new netbook and trucked it across the street to Panera for breakfast. Decent breakfast, too. Whole grain bread, ham, egg, cheese. Mmm, yummy! And I think it's only like 350 calories! Add some coffee for a hefty caffeine jolt and it's a good morning. So even though I shelled out money I didn't really want to on my car, I got some exercise in and a better breakfast than normal. Yay me!

And question for those of you here, anybody on WW? I'm thinking of joining, but I don't know how well it work with the lovely insulin resistance thing. Actually, I'm only vaguely aware of how WW really works, but I'm being given the opportunity of a lifetime. I have a friend offering to pay for the WW, and if I meet goal I don't have to pay her back. We'll be going through it together, and we're both very competitive, so it could be a really good thing for me. But with all the other failures I've had with counting calories and just changing everything I have my doubts.

Then again, it's a lot more structured than anything I've done before, and I'm not the one doing the structuring...

Any thoughts?

to the recent thread joiners! I'm in a rush, so forgive me for being brief.

Leimel: I had to go for my endoc lab fasting and then I went to Panera and had the same breakfast! Coffee and the power breakfast sandwich!

It was weird too... I'm on day 4 of TOM and I felt so calm, non-crazy, and I racked up the food log and it's at 1300. I have to go MAKE myself eat something else to bring it to a more reasonable 1500 or 1600 so I don't set me up for a bingey thing tomorrow.

I swear PCOS hormone wacky just does a number on appetites. I want to know what my labs say but it will be a few weeks til the endoc follow up.

hugs
A.

Hi Leimel,

I would highly encourage you to take up the WW. I havent personally done it, b/c its a bit expensive for me at this time, but I think that especially since it's being paid for its a great opportunity for you to give it a try, talk to a leader to see how it can be tailored to you with your IR, and help you to further reach your goals. I'm sure that lots of people on WW battle IR of some sort. Perhaps you can check out the WW thread on here and get some input from some of those.

Best wishes!

How was last month? How's your PCOS management going?

Last month was crazy. I started TOM (after not seeing him for about 8 months) the last day in NOV and it didnt stop until Jan 2. It was the longest and heaviest one of my life and toward the end I could actually smell the Iron leaving my body. I finally went to see the endo I was referred to last year and began my 1st round of met. I'm determined to do better, so that I can get better!
Hi dobetter, welcome! I love your perspective of losing the 80 lbs 20 at a time. It makes it so much more manageable that way.

Sorry you had such a long and heavy TOM. Hopefully you can get your body regulated. Whenever I have TOM (which is very rarely) it gets so painful and I have very heavy blood clots... so heavy that I am allowed to stay home from work with pay because I bleed through my panties, through my clothes, and into the chair at work. And that's in less than 30 mins or so.

Here's to us getting regulated, and to much more comfortable and regular TOM's.

My gyno said that WW is really the only plan that works. But I think he said it because it's a plan that really encompasses a methodology that you keep for the rest of your life, it teaches you how to eat.

Calorie counting does the same, but it just requires a lot more work that you do on your own. Weight Watchers has a program where you don't have to a lot of the research, because they've done it for you.

I think with anyone, IR or not, it's going to require some trial and error to figure out what works for you. I didn't just know that this plan that I'm on is working but rather I had to tweek it here and there and see what was helping me lose and what was helping me gain.

Good luck!

Hi, all!

I'm new to this thread, and am trying to find out about the relationship between hypothyroidism and gluten sensitivity. I've spotted some recent research that suggests that the gluten issue needs to be addressed in order to improve thyroid function.

Is anyone else bothered by eating most grains?

I think it depends on what you mean by bothered.

But my mother who has thyroid disease seems to have a sensitivity to gluten, but she doesn't have Celiac's disease.

So I've decided to do the WW. Went to go sign up today, my day off, and they weren't open. Actually, they have no convenient times for me to sign up. Meetings and weigh-ins, not such a problem. When a company doesn't make it convenient for the working person to take part of their product it really pisses me off. Despite the fact that normally I would shun the company for the rest of my life, I've decided that for my health I can't hold myself to that standard this time around. I now have to take an extra long lunch on Thursday to go sign up, which I'm really not happy about, but whatever.

I actually went to the store tonight, something more dreaded than fingernails on a chalkboard. I hate going to the store. Not because I think I'll buy something I shouldn't, I'm really pretty good about sticking to my list, but because I hate how inconsiderate people can be. I mean really, parking your cart in the middle of an aisle while chatting on your cell phone and "looking" at the shelves, all while blocking the aisle for anybody else that might actually want to look at those same shelves? So annoying. I despise inconsiderate people!

Ok, done venting about that. But I made it to the store with lots of veggies and fruit, sandwich meat, and bread. No superfluous items! Yeah me! It's nice to actually be able to go to the refrigerator and pull out something to eat!
