Im an emotional eater, and i probally have a low self esteem image of myself. I started with this group oohh perhaps 12-29 and i feel like this is my new blessing.
I love it here, and love the thought of sharing my goals, struggles, and successes with you all.

Just a fly by....we better check the air cause there is something getting to the Golden Girls...everyone is cooking up a storm. I made chicken for 2 meals and pot of vegies for the week. A meat loaf for Dh and turkey thighs for Dash.

Welcome Emaline....love your neck of the woods....used to run away from home with DH and spend a weekend on the Outer Banks when we lived on the Eastern Shore on Md. (Always deviled him about getting that hugh windsock at Kill Devil.....a black/white cow with a hugh pink udder.) It is important to have someone to share the struggle with and writing here with us will help keep you staying OP.

Rosie...you threw me for a sec thought you were wearing diapers!

South Beach flu is the yucky way you can feel when detoxing from carbos....headache flu feeling. Bad enough that you try not to cheat and get it again. hugs, karen3

I guess it's time I finally said Hi! to all you Golden Girls. I've been reading your posts for so long (maybe since mid August?), I kinda feel like I know you. I've been reluctant to post because I'm such a slow typist & have a hard time figuring out how to express what I want to say. Also, I'm afraid I'll be one of those newcomers like Zoe mentioned, that posts a few times & disappears, but I'll try not to be! Another problem I have typing, is the cat currently sitting in my lap, that's causing me to only use one hand because I have to hold him on my lap with the other one. The foolish thing insists on sitting in my lap whenever I'm at the computer, but won't hold himself up because he knows Mom won't let him fall! Yes, I'm a cat person, 3 in the house (the 12 outside don't really count). The cat in my lap, & his sister, I've raised since they were a couple of hours old & abandoned by their mother, so they really are my babies!

Anyway, I've been overweight, & losing & regaining weight all my adult life. I'm 54 yrs. old, & in the last year & a half I've lost over 80lbs. (from 250 to 167), & I'm determined that THIS TIME I won't gain it back! So, I visit this forum, & the weight-loss support one, to try to stay on track (& because I find you G.G.s so interesting!). Of course I'd love to lose more weight, but just not regaining will be fine.

I look forward to talking (typing?) with you all. (This post just took me about an hour to type - did I mention I'm slow?!!)

Good Morning Golden Girls,

It's raining outside! We had a really weird 3 days. It got actually, almost, somewhat, warm! going from 0 to 45 is a big difference. The snow melted, mostly, everythign except the big piles. Even beside the drive way melted. But it's not going to last. It's turning cold again starting today, or so they say. whoever they are. I worked the weekend. Somehow I went through the entire Christmas season with few food gifts at work. The doc's usually bring in tons of the really good stuff. But, of course, can't get by the season that easy. The unit clerk brought in homemade cookies (the good king) and a dip and crackers and there was a box of dark chocolates. I didn't have even one bite. I am so proud of ME! As far as how I am this year compaired to last year, maybe the same. I gained a few pounds last year around Christmas and did the same between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year. Not much. 5 lbs. and I go into panic mode!!! Got to draw a line in the sand somewhere.

Welcome to all the new ladies. Come back and make yourself at home. It takes awhile to get comfortable and feel at home, but soon you will be wondering about how someone is doing and need to come back to check on them. THEN you will know you are part of us. Hope that is sooner than later for you. it really does make a difference in weight loss and keeping the weight off. We have all tried stopping. Or at least some of us, or a few of us? I tried it last year, thinking I could do it on my own. NOT!! It's just something about being accountable.

Got a very dirty house that is calling my name....I'm thinking about changing it. MY name. Wonder who it would call then?

Freda

Good Morning Girls!
Welcome Nancy, so nice to see 3 new people joining us.
I changed my ticker and have a new goal. I mentioned my chiropractor took a full back view and side view and showed me on his big screen my posture and slightly off balance. All I saw was my fat belly sticking out and my sagging butt. I have shrunk in height too, have lost over an inch in height. So I'm going to lose 10 pounds to get more in line with my height, joined the new 'Biggest Losers' challenge that's just starting and also trying to sign my Fitday account to the 3FC's. I don't think I did it right and will check as soon as I post this. Still having problems posting picture and now I have to get ready for another chiropractor appointment this morning.
Have a great day everyone!

morning....Haven't got a cat....but Dash would love to have one. The neighbors hugh monsters (1 white with balck tail other black with white tail...both 20lb) sit on our lawn and give him the kitty finger. Occasionally he gets to chase them home. Don't know what'd he'd do if he caught one??? For fat cats they can run!

Rosie....Heck with house work...it only gets dirty again. Craft away kiddo! I believe in dusting bi-annually whether it needs it or not.

Zoe....you are so right about newbies....Since Jan1 we have welcomed 5 in and then cross our fingers they'll stay. More input the better we all get, but when they come and go than I feel guilty????

Bobbie...you sound Bobbyish. No headache, I hope?

2 newbies from NC...wow have to have them check on DD. Funny when they moved there last year the locals were mumbling about Yankees. Until found out she was born in NC. Yup, at Camp Lajuine.

Day2 of level one. Scrambled an egg with shrimp/onion/nfcheddar. Some diet food! Checked on fitday with intake yesterday and ended up having extra bowl of vegies. Calories were below 1000. Yah, I know better. A couple yrs ago having a bowl of vegies to up calories would have been greek to me....sometime I can't believe I'm me??????

Time to leave for bridge....hugs,karen3

Ah. Day 3 of 2011. Very much like a Sunday for me, since I'll be back at work tomorrow. To say that I'm unenthusiastic would be a gross understatement. I had a difficult time sleeping last night - felt fine all day, and then as soon as my head hit the pillow, my nose started to clog up, and my throat started feeling like it was lined with sandpaper. Finally got up and groped around looking for cold medicine without much hope of finding any, because my son started with a cold 4 or 5 days ago and came to mommy for chicken soup and cold tablets. Gave him all I had, and then went and bought him some more, because, well, not that he isn't perfectly capable of buying his own cold medicine, but I guess that's just what mommies do, no matter how old their kids get, right? But the upshot is that I couldn't find anything to take except an old bottle of liquid Zicam that I didn't bother taking the last time I had a cold (ages ago) because one of my daughters told me there had been some negative reports about it...I can't remember, exactly, but it was there so I drank some and finally got off to sleep at @ 2:00 AM. Ugh. Up at 9-ish, and haven't accomplished a single thing. Dh went off to have the oil changed in my car, and I'm sitting here (11:08) accomplishing nada. Not even dressed. Washed my face and brushed my teeth, did a few stretches, and here I am sitting at my computer. Colder out there today...no more balmy spring days until it really is spring, I guess. Sunshiny, though, and no precipitation predicted, so that's a plus. I was in energetic cooking mode yesterday, and am telling myself that I should turn that leftover pork roast into chili today, but so far, no action on that front. I DID do well with my eating Saturday & Sunday, and expect to do the same today, so 2011 is off to a pretty decent start diet-wise.
I need too, to do some laundry and get my clothes ready for the work week, and I haven't moved on that yet, either. Gawwwwwwwwd.
Oh, Karen3, that egg with shrimp, onion and cheddar sounds DIVINE. How is it that someone who has eaten (and thoroughly enjoyed) eggs all her life could suddenly (about three years ago) develop an allergy to them? Well, I did - if I eat an egg, I end up in a cold sweat, nauseous, dizzy - oh, horrible, horrible feeling! It just makes me so mad, because there's nothing I've ever liked better than a nice omelet (with practically anything in it) or a quiche, or, oh, lordie, a nice egg salad sandwich on dark, crusty wheat bread. Waaaaahhhhhhhh!
Oh, my, Bobbi....are you SURE you need to take off another ten pounds? Maybe you just need to do some scrunches or something to redistribute it a little bit? But of course you know your own body better than I do.....I KNOW I need to get this danged weight back off! I feel like I'm made of marshmallow!
Freda! So you're thinking that if I changed my name, maybe somebody else could go to work for me? (I mean, same principle, right?) Maybe THAT'S the solution to my present dilemma. I did have a nice chat with my middle dd last night, though, and she is very enthusiastic about my retiring and doing some limited consulting work. In fact, she suggested that my present employer might want to re-hire me on a consulting basis. As she says, it would be a win-win situation, because they wouldn't have to pay any of my benefits, while I could reduce my hours, work from home at least part of the time, could withdraw the money from my retirement account and roll it over into a private retirement account, AND get started with my social security payments before they decide to up the retirement age to 110! Sounds like a sensible plan. I think I'll get myself down to the social security office sooner rather than later.
Hah! Lynn, yours is on your chest, Nancy's is in her lap, and mine is cuddled around my feet keeping them nice and toasty for me. Life without cats...gotta wonder how people survive, right? Oh, and by the way, welcome to you, Nancy. Hope to see you around here regularly; we don't subtract any points for typos, or even for typing speed!
Rosey, my house has been a cluttered mess since Christmas day! Today I really have to do something about it. Maybe.
Debbie, I've always been an emotional eater, as well. Even now, after all my experience in trying to change my habits, I will occasionally find myself buying - and practically inhaling - one of those great big Hershey candy bars if I'm feeling especially stressed about something. I've never quite understood people who LOSE their appetites when they're upset about something. Actually, that's happened to me maybe twice in my life, so I know it's for real, but those times were when something really, really traumatic occurred (like death) and for most common, ordinary, run-of-the-mill every day stress, I have always found it much more soothing to eat than not. And, when I am heavier than I want to be - heavier than I know I should be - my self-esteem goes down the toilet as well. I suspect that's true of many of us here, or we wouldn't be wanting to get our weight under control. So, you're in like company here with us GG's.
Hey, PT...you out rolling Samcat around the town?
Have a rip-roaring great day, y'all...this here chickie is going to be lucky if she manages to get herself dressed; I'd say rip-roaring is out of the question for me at this present time.

Good Morning, All!
Don't shoot the messenger here:
OLD PEOPLE TEXTING
If you just got your iPhone and are "learning" to text, here is some VERY helpful information. Don't thank me (DTM). This is a public service (TIPS).

Since more and more Seniors are texting and tweeting there appears to be a need for a STC (Senior Texting Code). If you qualify for Senior Discounts this is the code for you.

ATD: At The Doctor's
BFF: Best Friend Farted
BTW: Bring The Wheelchair
BYOT: Bring Your Own Teeth
CBM: Covered By Medicare
CUATSC: See You At The Senior Center
DWI: Driving While Incontinent
FWB: Friend With Beta Blockers
FWIW: Forgot Where I Was
FYI: Found Your Insulin
GGPBL: Gotta Go, Pacemaker Battery Low!
GHA: Got Heartburn Again
HGBM: Had Good Bowel Movement

LMDO: Laughing My Dentures Out
LOL: Living On Lipitor
LWO: Lawrence Welk's On
OMMR: On My Massage Recliner
OMSG: Oh My! Sorry, Gas.
ROFL... CGU: Rolling On The Floor Laughing... And Can't Get Up
SGGP: Sorry, Gotta Go Poop

Okay, got that over with!
No, PT/Zoe, it's been too cold to take SamCat out in his stroller. Even with the fluffy baby afghan I made for him (!), he'd still be both askeered AND chilled... and I can't have that! I LOVE that we love our kitties!

No news. I did paperwork until my eyeballs bled yesterday (I'm so OVER this!) and have to go to the post office and various other errands today. I'm back on track (OP) and am just skating along! KarenFL, I'm interested in your South Beach experiences; I still think there's something not quite right there... but the omelet sounded pretty wonderful!

Freda, Mary, KarenMO, Bobbi, Missy Rosey, everyone, new and veteran, have a lovely day... warm, dry, and SAFE!

Donna...great examples to live by. I can't do #29 since we live out in the country and DH is the only person I see on most days. I'll try to make a point of getting him to smile once a day. (very hard to do, he never smiles unless he's talking to someone about hunting)
