My plan is pretty much the same as Martina's... I'm starting out by changing my eating habits for the better, then I'll gradually add in some exercise to help me burn away those pesky calories!

Me too. I'm just trying to eat less junk and eat less in general. I started an online photo food journal to keep me accountable - and so far it seems to be working. Also, will be working out now that I have my job (and gym membership) back.

I'm a calorie counter and a low-GI dieter. I do both to keep my (low) sugar stable. I'm down to 1390 calories a day (as much as 2000 on my cardio days). I eat 6 times a day with fruit or yoghurt as a snack in between meals. I count my calories and exercise with MyFitnessPal.com and so far this month, I've only missed 3 days.

My exercise may seem like a lot, but I'm an endurance freak- always testing myself to see how much further I can push myself (and I love it!):

Monday: 25 minute run, 10 minute walk, 25 minutes bike (hill profile, level 8/12), 60 minutes of karate and 60 minutes of kendo. The run will increase over the next two weeks to 30 minutes.

Tuesday: upper body weight-lifting, 15 minute run or bike, 90 minutes of aikido.

Wednesday: same as Monday.

Thursday: lower-body/upper body weight lifting, 15 minute run or bike. (This is one of my "off" days).

Friday: 25 minute run, 10 minute walk, 25 minutes bike (hill profile, level 8/12), 60 minutes of low-impact karate (training session with the senior belts where we do techniques and stop and look at what we're doing, discuss it and move on).

Saturday: 150 minutes of karate and aikido, maybe a walk with the dog and DH.

Sunday: off.

I'm not working vigorously at my karate classes, I'd classify it as a moderate workout, something to get the blood pumping, but I reckon my heartrate is going between 60-75% of my max.

I'm eating healthier and not mindlessly snacking and have cut out all junk .... as well I am walking an hour a day and doing some bodypump classes ...

I hope to get a trainer soon and do a bit more weight training at the gym ... i'm a wee bit scared of all the equipment ....

Mollz ...(my fellow kiwi) .... wow you are doing a great job on the exercise front ...

Holy ****! We're in Tokoroa!

Had a big scare today. Kendo class saw my sugar get pretty low; struggling to stay awake, ready to puke, the shakes, a little confused- not sure how I managed to drop off a fellow student AND drive home, but I did. Got home and had to force myself to eat dinner (strange feeling in itself), after wolfing down a banana.

DH was really concerned about me ready to pass out and told me off for weighing the meat I was going to eat. Fair enough, I don't think the plate was nearly full enough (100 grams of beef and a cup of veggies, plus a banana and a 12 oz Cherry Coke as an emergency sugar backup for when my sugar gets really low). So I had a piece of banana bread and a serve of ice cream for dessert; I still feel sleepy- as though I haven't had enough sugar yet.

I haven't felt like this in a long time and it really freaks me out when it happens.
