We have had a few snowy days, but nothing has stuck on the ground. Alberta weather is notorious for +25C one day the next a snow blizzard (Calgary last month). Mornings are definitely chilly here at 0C or colder, by 4 pm we've been hitting +12-19 for the last few weeks.

Figured I'd start chiming in on this thread. My inner patriot wants out! Just wondering what everyone is planning for their Thanksgiving meal this weekend? Turkey is definitely on the menu, maybe asparagus? Or green beans?

I am going to try to make a mashed potato substitute with cauliflower and roast garlic.

A cauli mash is a good idea .. I made Rutabaga in the slow cooker tonight and everyone thought they were potatoes. I didn't enlighten them for fear it would turn them off. They were very tasty.

How did you do the rutabaga in the crock pot? I am new to cooking with a crock pot and am loving it!

Happy Thanksgiving Weekend fellow Canucks

My mother-in-law is making a Turkey Jigs Dinner, so while I will be indulging in the turkey I will be bringing my own vegetables as I'm guessing rutabaga and cabbage cooked in salt beef with potatoes and carrots is not allowed. I'll probably just do cabbage and rutabaga and boil them in some salt water.

I will miss having dessert though, and my husband is disappointed that I am not ready to bake yet, and he loves my apple pie But I think I will have a sweet snack that evening. I have been sticking to the crisps but am ready to give them a try. I'm just worried that they will make me crave more.

I definitely craved my wafer but luckily I didn't crave "more". I thoroughly enjoyed the one I had. Sometimes I would even have it for breakfast but then I'd be bummed about it after dinner. It may be just the sweet treat you need. I really liked the jello for an unrestricted dessert. The oatmeal used to make me hungry all day.

I don't like thanksgiving dinner. Nobody in my family does but DH still wants the meal. It still won't get me to make it though. I've become a little selfish on IP if he really wants it he can cook it.

It was my bday lunch with my parents/sister and it seemed to bother my sister more than me that she couldn't make me a cake. I really didn't want anything. I even skipped the usual going out for dinner. There is $100 to spend on new clothes!

Ommama- I made it with a roast. I put in the Rutabaga cubed with some celery and leek on the bottom then the roast on top. Made the sauce with a recipe from AllRecipes that included basil, soy (I use the one I buy from my clinic), water, garlic powder. I cooked it on high for 6 hours and it was reeeallly good.

Chip- it's funny how bothered others can be by our food choices. I went out to a steakhouse tonight with a bunch of couple friends and got called 'crazy' for being on a diet and not letting loose for a night. I just find it easier to stay focused, get where I want to be and then have a let loose night out. But wow! Aren't you in P3? And you still resisted birthday cake?!? You're a superstar! Happy Birthday!

NSV- Thanksgiving was a success! Made it through completely OP. Even though multiple family remembers were pushing for me to have wine, carbs and sweets. But I was able to resist. Sad thing, i had to listen to multiple family members critize my diet, saying how "unhealthy" it is. Well I'm down -13lbs in 2.5 weeks and I'm happy, that's all that matters.

I'm not doing IP, but I'm Canadian, so Happy Thanksgiving to all. I'm not even looking at a calorie tomorrow. I'm making dinner for me and my bf and we're having all the fixins!

I made a turkey dinner with all the fixens.. Aka carbs. Lol
I had turkey and cauliflower, my dinner guest says wow that cant be healthy, my response was well actually its alot healthier than being severly overweight.. Kudoos to you for staying OP. We can do this!

Thanksgiving dinner was at a new top rated restaurant in Canmore - I had duckfat fried heritage potatoes and a rabbitburger mixed with nutmeg, topped with garlic aioli and arugula and home cured porchetta on a gluten free hand made bun. And a 500 ml bottle of Old Rosie cloudy UK cider.
Caveat: P4 funday for me.
Got tired of turkey over the past few months...

I made Thanksgiving dinner with homemade cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie with fresh pumpkins, scalloped potatoes, stuffing and of course turkey! Made mashed rutabaga with a dash of nutmeg for myself and happily are that alone with my turkey and loved it. My family is fully indoctrinated to my diet at this point and no one even bothered trying to push anything else on to me. It was a great dinner with family and all that I could have wanted in a Thanksgiving meal (although next year I will definitely be having some fresh cranberry sauce!). Liana your dinner sounds lovely. Canmore is such a beautiful place.
