I haven't seen much feedback from the guys except guywithbeads and everything looked like it worked out great for him.
I actually just placed my order over the weekend for the starter kit and got an e-mail from my counselor this morning about my order and the first steps, etc. I was originally told about this diet by a friend of mine who's bf's family had a few members who used this diet with insane results. So I got curious and did some research on it and came across this forum as a source of feedback for the diet.
I feel like i've been dieting for the last 1 1/2 years almost kind of going on and off of it. I dropped about 25 pounds since then and have managed to keep it off for the most part but it's the last 15-20 pounds that just don't want to come off. I'm at the point where I drink 4-5 liters of water a day and I just seem to "maintain" my current weight so I need something drastic to cut the rest of this belly fast off and decided to try accuweight.
My current diet is relatively strict but as i've read from many of you the office snacks have started to cut back into my daily routine and I can't be having that anymore. I have a goal right now to cut the 10-15 pounds I need to by the time I go to cancun which is May 24th. I should have my beads this week and would start the monday morning after easter.
I have read the diet is very strict and the whole no cheating thing which I can totally understand but ideas of foods that are acceptable or certain recipes that make your typical vegatable meal a little more appetizing would be greatly appreciated.
Until finding this forum, I have kind of felt like I have been on an island by myself, so I am glad that I have found all of you.
From a guy's perspective, doing a diet like this has almost been a bit embarrassing. I know people would prob think i'm crazy for doing something like this and all but I don't buy into that nonsense this is about making myself healthier.
The tough parts are going to be on weekends and what i'm assuming to not be able to eat after 6 or be able to eat sunday italian dinner at my girlfriends familys' house. Man i'm going to miss that but this is a short term sacrifice for my better health. My girlfriend thinks i'm crazy and that "You aren't fat, you don't need that." Everyone says you're not fat and all and yes i'm a big guy with a stocky frame so most of my weight is around my midsection and i've been looking at it for too many years and it's time it hits the road!!
When I first started dieting I started weighing in at 6 foot 1 and 249 lbs and
as of lately I hover around 221-225 lbs. I have a big build and I remember when I was 180 lbs at one point when I was playing soccer in college. That's not my goal right not I want to be a leaner 210-215 and then hitting the weights again after a good amount of the gut is gone. The hard part is I do the crazy heavy lifting that isn't allowed on this diet so I figure i'm going to lose some muscle but hopefully not too much. I know once I start this diet and seeing the results I will feel better physically, emotionally, and I just overall feel healthier about myself.
Congrats to those of you that have been succeeding on this diet. Hope it's ok that I am here!!!
Nice to meet you! Guys don't usually chime in alot, even on the email list(you can join it from the website but use an email you can get ALOT of messages on). The good news for you is you'll probably lose this much faster. Most guys do.
There are recipes on the accuweight website. Most are really good and easy to make. Check it out.
Telling people who dont need to know is really up to you. I have chosen to tell almost no one about it because I don't want to hear the starvation diet lecture. If I meet people for dinner or drinks I'll make up excuses why I'm not eating/drinking alcohol. And will run to the bathroom to rub beads. LOL.
Keep busy on the weekends. Tell your GF you're doing this for yourself and her support would be really appreciated it... that you need her on your side. That's what I told my husband when he said I look like a bone (which I don't). It worked!
Did you tell your councelor your lifting? It's really not suggested and might back fire. On this program we lose only fat so your muscles underneath will "emerge" once the layer of fat is off. I suggest just cardio. Not to mention it can also make you insanely hungry.
Good luck you'll probably be done in no time!
