  • I'm up super early to take my mum to the station and then do a long run - I'm aiming for 1.5 - 2 hours up the canal before work! As I have to be in town at about 5.45 to drop her off I may as well make the most of it...
  • Early fit bunny on a MONDAY MORNING!

I'm still trying to wake up!

I lost all my Cornwall weight after my no-binge weekend! Hurrah! I'm hoping it might go down some more soon too!

I'm feeling bleary this morning, kinda have a half-cold type thing going on, just feel a bit blah! Must get on with work though, have lots of stuff to do and deadlines for a change!
  • Frus - you've been feeling a bit poorly for a while - you've often mentioned feeling like you're coming down with a cold. Perhaps you ought to think about seeing your doctor about it because it doesn't sound 'right' (if you know what I mean).

YP - Well done for that run before work. I think I'd need a lie down after that, not a full day at work! I read your blog - this must be as difficult for your Mum as it is for you. Have you actually talked it over with her, maybe she doesn't realise that she's doing it?

Impossible Princess - I hope you get your asthma sorted out. It must be awful not to be able to breathe freely.

Kyk - Your gym visit sounds fun! What's cardiowave? Do all gyms do this sort of thing?

I have just come back from a 3 hour / 11.5 mile walk. I saw on G-Map that there's an old peat cutter's 'path' going right around the boundary of the Moor. Well, I got to the far side and I couldn't find it. The pictures on G-Map must be pre-2002 because that area is shown as being worked and all that is there now is scrub, bogs, and hidden ditches. Because noone goes over that deep on to the Moor anymore there was a huge assortment of very passive wildlife - George & Fred couldn't understand why the deer and rabbits just sat there looking at them when they tried to chase them, so they gave up trying and just barked at them instead. Perhaps next time I'm thinking of that kind of walk I'll remember NOT do 20 mins HIIT cardio on the stationary bike (with 3 x 10s) followed by 30 mins abs exercises before starting out.
  • I'll be ok, I think I'm just fighting a cold off - it's only been about for a week I think. I'll see how I feel tomorrow. Problem about going to the doctors is time off work and the fact that they're all booked up about 4-6 weeks in advance! There's just no point going at all, unless it's something serious, then it's A&E.

Right, I'm back at my afternoon work after spending an hour "writing" a report for my friend who's in final year... Do I have MUG tattooed across my forehead?? At least she's going to give me some cash, but I'm a bit uneasy about it, since it's supposed to be her work... she has done a lot of research on it, and in fairness I'm writing it up using an old report as a template but still!

    Anyway, back to websites
  • A cardio wave is a machine a bit like a cross trainer. But the pedals go outwards in a speed skating motion instead of round and round, so your hip adbuctors are working more, and your glutes. It's really good. I haven't seen them in any other gyms, I think they are quite new. It's something different anyway.

I did an hour of cardio this morning and burnt 500 calories (according to the machines anyway) and am going back tonight for weight training.
  • Hello everyone

My new bra that I bought at Asda irritated my bosoms no end. Consquently i had to sleep in germolene. I have increased my time on the treadmill so now I am running for almost thirty minutes. I sweated like a pig and the rib bit that is in the bra rubbed my poor big bosoms. After I washed it I soaked it in Lenor to see if I could soften it. (The bra not my bosoms)

The scales are showing ten stone 2 on the gym scales I think that 10 stone reading was pure fluke. Nice fluke but fluke all the same. Work is still full
of biccys and choccy its a complete nightmare.

Kykaree we have that wave thingy at our gym. I was going to give it a go but havent as yet. I think it is new though.

YP I reckon I wilal tune in next year to the marathon and see you on the start line.

Sarah George and Fred would love my Kerry she loves to be chased the frisky thing!!

  • Woo hoo - I ran somewhere between 12.3 and 12.5 miles this morning I think everyone thought I was mad when I got to work, but I had 2 hours to kill...

I'm quite pleased with that - before my last half marathon my longest run was 12.2 miles in just over 2 hours, today I did a bit further in 1:51ish so I'm definitely getting faster and hoping that I'll be able to beat my last time when I do the Chester half (hopefully - they've not cashed my cheque yet) in May.

Sarah Ann - strangely enough we did have a bit of a conversation loosely based round my post, but I'm not sure how far it's got us, I'll see when I go out there in two weeks. When I go to stay with them I always want a bit of time alone to just relax rather than constantly having her asking if I want to "do" something, so I'll see if I can persuade her that I'm perfectly happy sitting in the bar over the road from their new house, watching the world go by.

I've had a really controlled day today. I had a 62 calorie ryvita bar before my run, then my pre-planned food all day. I've been really busy all day so didn't have time to snack, and have just had cherry tomato, green bean, rocket and pine nut tagliatelle for my tea which was yummy. I have some work to do this evening, and I'm hoping for an early night so hopefully there won't be too much snacking going on. Then I'm in meetings all day tomorrow and on Thursday which usually stops the random chocolate bars because I only have access to food when they bring it into the room!

I'm just watching the final Run for Glory, I'm really hoping that I can get a place in the London marathon sometime soon. I found myself getting really motivated watching it yesterday! I'm half considering attempting to get a good for age time in Berlin, but I'll probably be a bit too slow for that so it will be the ballot for me I suspect...
  • Oh, and I'm stressing about something else for tomorrow too, I have to tell my boss how much I think my pay rise should be and I have absolutely no idea. I don't even know what market rate is and don't have time to find out. I said yesterday that I don't have a clue and I'm not that hung up on it all, and she said to go away and think some more to come up with a figure. I really don't know what to say because I've never been asked before - they usually just come up with something, and I don't know what's reasonable to ask for, what's over optimistic and what would make me look seriously unambitious. I wish they'd just decide for me...
  • Isn't there anyone else there that started the same time as you can ask. Or any job pages just for your profession you can have a quick look at?
  • Helen, ask for what you think is cheeky, you might be pleasantly surprised, and they can only say no!

Well DF and I were out last night checking out a band for our wedding... They were pretty good, but we're not too sure at the moment. Needless to say we ate out. I was going to have grilled salmon, but they'd run out, so I had a chicken salad. And profiteroles! That was ok, not too bad, then we got to the pub and had to stay awake till 11pm! So we nibbled kettle chips, dry roasted peanuts and mini cheddars! Needless to say, the scales weren't particularly happy this morning! Ah well, I don't think 1000kcals will do too much damage in the long haul! After we got home I was in binge mode, thinking, "I want chocolate!" "I could have a warm milk." "I really need a Mars bar, or maybe a creme egg, yes a creme egg would do..." BUT I had one piece of dark chocolate with cherries in and cleaned my teeth I didn't go into full-blown binge-fest, so that's progress at least!
  • YP, I agree with Frus - ask for a high figure and it gives both parties some room for negotiation.

Frus, Does eating keep you awake? I get sleepy when I eat unless its a fairly protein rich snack or meal.

I realised that I am totally - I'm not sure why. Most of my muscles ache most of the time and even though I'm getting 8 hours sleep a night - the same as I always have - it doesn't seem to be enough any more. I could cope with the aching and the sleepiness individually but when you put them together its just totally exhausting. I'm eating all the right foods and, in fact, I'm actually eating 'on program' for Body for Life even though I said that I didn't think their nutrition plan would suit me. (I found really needed the extra protein!) Even DH has commented that I keep falling asleep on the sofa of an evening which is something I've never done before.

Has anyone got any ideas how I can overcome this??
  • Working out is hard work, I take a "nap day" on Sunday when I know I need more than just my 8 or 9 or even 10 hours a night. Take naps in the afternoon, even if it's just 30 minutes, it will do you the world of good!

And no eating doesn't tend to keep me awake, but I eat more when I'm tired, so obviously on some subconcious level I think it does - you know, elevated blood levels, more energy, that kinda thing! I think it was the 3 pints of diet coke that actually kept me awake! I think also I was kinda "keeping DF company" since he likes to eat to "soak up" his beer! Never mind, blip over!
  • I'll experiment with having a nap this afternoon - if I can keep my eyes open that long.

I'm p'd off! I bought a 'leather' jacket through eBay and it has just arrived - it looks and smells nothing like leather and the label clearly says its made from polyvinyl - some sellers have got strong imaginations.

DH is actually having TWO days off this week - major improvement! I think I'll try and persuade him in to a day at the seaside to try and perk me up a bit.
  • Can you get your money back? Don't paypal cover that sort of thing?

Oh I forgot - are you getting adequate rest days? Are you taking one day off a week (I suppose walking the dogs is a daily activity, but you could have a rest day with a short doggy walk) just so that you're not overtraining. If you are feeling really pooped then take a complete rest day then carry on the next day. It's not worth the overtraining if it's really killing you.
