  • Happy New Year everyone!

HIS hoping the scale has been better lately. Ive been using the happy scale app. I record my weight daily and it will predict my goals. It also has a feature of a moving average weight. Might be something you are interested in.

Yesterday I was finally back into ketosis after my Christmas cheat. Scale is on the downward trend again. Looking forward to the next decade!
  • Happy new year everyone!

I am back and ready to reboot. I have been off plan since 12/12 and am up 1.2# from my lowest. I am shocked that I made it through the holidays virtually unscathed. I am back on P1 starting tomorrow (Sat.) and am ready to finish the P1 portion of this journey. My next mini-goal is 145, and I am focused on getting to that.

Hope everyone had a healthy and happy!

Welcome back Jenny! Your presence was missed! Congrats on keeping your weight in check during your time away.

Doing my veggie prep this morning so my veggies are ready for the week. Made extra burgers for supper last night so I have quick meals ready when needed. Preparation is key!
  • Jenny - Welcome back. Glad to see you made it successfully through the holidays.

Mama -Thanks for the motivation. I should do my veggies this morning as well and while I have everything out of the fridge I should clean it.

Yesterday did not go as expected. I got a call from my folks that they wanted a small scaffolding that I have to use to paint a rental property. Unfortunately DH had decided to use it to store the left over wood from our kitchen remodel. So instead of cleaning the spare room I needed to clean some of the garage in 30 degree F weather. I got it done and gave my folks a bunch of wood too -- they have a wood burning stove. (I dont understand why my husband needed all the pieces under a foot).

I did get started in the spare bedroom and also tried on some clothing to take on the cruise in a month. Some things that did not fit are very close to fitting; unfortunately some of the things that I thought would be too big still fit They must have been very tight when I was wearing them previously. My folks have said they will take a suit case with them when they leave next week -- I guess I will pack the stuff and if it is too big I will have to go shopping at the thrift stores in FL -- I guess they sell shorts down there too.
  • Jenny good to see you back, and great results over Christmas, I remember you said you were going to "stray" but looks like you stayed pretty close to the path.

smda - a month till the cruise? Your size will change . Maybe hit a thrift or 2 the week before you leave.

mama - glad to hear you're back in ketosis. Easy-peasy from here!

My home scale has showed the same weight for 3 days. Funny but it's not bending me out of shape. I probably didn't completely deserve my last loss over Christmas, and I ate more than I should NYEve and NYDay. I cooked Cornish hens, my recipe makes the best crispy skin, and I just had to have some. More carby-vegs (allowed) than usual. I also haven't been walking as much, but my DS gave me a Garmin vivofit for my BD last week, so that will keep me more aware. Back on the straight and narrow today. Get this new year off to the right start!! My next WI is Tuesday (last one was Thurs), schedule has been wacky the last 2 weeks. So I'm hoping for a loss, but not expecting one, or only a tiny one. We'll see.

Hope you've all gotten over the holidays, and are having a great weekend!
  • Jenny! So good to see you back.

mama, I use Happy Scale, too. It's better for when you're losing weight than just maintaining, IMO. But it was helpful for looking at my average weekly weight in December.

smda, is/was your husband a woodworker? Mine is, and he can't throw out wood at all. We've even dragged a trailer on vacations so he can bring home logs from other states. :/

Today is my 2nd 10K practice run, in prep for the race in two weeks. I've been reading a lot about pre-running fuel and how to solve my gut problem; one article suggested no- or very-low fiber in the 24 hours before a long run. Which is kind of hard to combine with the way we're taught to eat on protocol. Anyway, I'm trying a new thing on the night before a long run - just protein and lots of carbs. Last night I had 8 oz of salmon and about a cup of egg noodles, and a piece of cornbread. I often have a protein bar in the evening, but because those are so high in fiber, I decided to skip it last night. (I made sure to get 2 c. of veggies at lunch, and I had an apple as an afternoon snack, so I did get some fiber yesterday.) So we'll see how this approach works.

Other than last night's dinner, I've been eating mostly P1 type meals - protein+veg - but with allowances made for maintenance foods, like having carrots and hummus at lunch yesterday. That seems to be helping the scale stay closer to where I like. January is shaping up to be a very experimental month for me.
  • I am glad to be back! I am starting P1 today and ready to get all of this junk out of my system. I know that the first few days will be rough, which is why I want to start today and not wait until Mon. Mon. will be tough enough with getting back to work and back into my routine that I don't want to throw a "carb headache" on top of it all.

I am hoping to be back into the 140's by my mid-week check (I am currently sitting at 150.2) so that should be completely manageable and back to 149 by next Sat.

I have a few things planned in Jan / Feb, but it should not be a problem to stay OP. I may be eating out a little bit more and will have to deal with the sodium factor, but otherwise, I should be good to go on this reboot. My goal is to be into the 130's by March, which is exactly 10.3# from now. 8 weeks and 10 pounds should be completely doable.

Here's to a good week ahead!
  • Happy Sunday, everyone!

I just wanted to pop in and report that my high-carb, low-fiber meal worked out pretty well before my 6.3 mile run yesterday. I can't really say that it gave me tons of energy, but I didn't have to make any potty stops, which was the main goal. I love doing long runs, but the rest of the day is a battle, fighting hunger no matter what I eat.

Getting holiday food out of the house has been beneficial. I'm seeing a slow downward trend in the scale; closer to 155-156 than 158, where I spent much of December.

I've got my first competitive 10K coming up in two weeks, and apparently I'm subconsciously stressing about it. My FitBit says I had 16 periods of restlessness during sleep last night, and I know every time I woke up, I was thinking about the run - Is the course hilly? Will I have bathroom problems? Will it be cold? What should I eat? and on and on and on. My brain needs to chill out.

I hope you all are having a good weekend and staying warm, now that winter has settled in over most of North America. We have the wood stove blazing every day now.
  • Quote: LindaIn early Dec, I put some things on local GS facebook page. Sold a couple of things, couple of sweaters, winter coats. Not much else. So I took the ad down. Now, I have a LOT of handknit sweaters that I've made over the years, and have been holding onto, even though I haven't really been wearing many of them, even before the weight loss. So a few days ago, I got an email from someone interested in a Christmas sweater they had seen, and she asked if I had any other sweaters, Of course, i said sure. So this morning she came over, bought 6, and will come back in Jan for the rest. She upcycles them into mittens, hats, etc. So while we were chatting, I asked for her website/FB page to see what she's does with them, she said she also takes old leather coats and makes purses. She showed me the one she had with her (nice!). So I said, well I have this red leather jacket, are you interested, and she said YES! Anyway, I said, well, maybe you could make a purse for me out of it, and we could do a swap for some of the sweaters
First of all, I made a few $$$. Second, there is less of a pile on my spare bed. Third, there will be even less of a pile when she comes back for the rest. Fourth, I am going to get a new red purse
All in all, a good day.
That's awesome!! I wish it were going to be that easy!! I saw a neat thing on YouTube making beanies out of old sweaters- unfortunately, I'm nota beanie person, or that would be a cool option
Quote: I looked at my weight log for the month of December, and over the last 3 weeks, I never got down below 157, so my weekly average has definitely been trending slightly upward. Goal for January is to average around 155. Then I'll work at getting it a couple of pounds lower in February.
Other than weight management, do y'all have any goals or big plans for 2016? DH and I want to take a big trip to Alaska in 2017, so to save money for that, our vacations will be modest this year. We will probably go to FL in May, which is an annual trip to see his parents. I'm looking forward to running there - NO hills!
Though there may have been a slight upward trend, do you think that it's muscle? The Alaska trip sounds wonderful- I have always wanted to do an Alaskan cruise. My goal this year will to be to save some money for a change, between IP and DS's wedding last year- this mama is pretty broke-so looking to slow down and re-bank some money.
Quote: Yesterday I was finally back into ketosis after my Christmas cheat. Scale is on the downward trend again. Looking forward to the next decade!
Congrates on being back in Ketosis! Let the good times (and results) roll! I find there to be a lot of comfort being in P1-no thought involved usually, it's just routine.

Welcome back and congratulations on the scale over the holidays. I'll admit- they were tough. I am glad to have all of that food behind me. You'll be at your goal before you know it!

I feel your pain, it seems we "collect" so much stuff-metal, wood, rope, chain-that he may need some day-and granted -yes, he may, I've seen it happen-but OY the stuff....I'm one to talk, same idea, just different "stuff" In a month- you'll be surprised- you may even "go by them" that happened to me with a couple of things- tight, put aside, tried again and they hung on me-in a pretty short period of time. Don't give up hope!!

Well, speaking from experience, you may be hugely surprised!! I'm glad that you're not freaking out over it. That's a positive. Look at how your body is actually responding- that's great actually!Yum, crispy skin-like the bark on a roast beef! Yummy!!!

I hope you get things straightened out- Yum, egg noodles, carrots, hummus...cornbread- sounds yummy. I've got to get my arsenic gear with the C25K - though now, snow is on the horizon for tomorrow so we'll have to shelve it again-besides I'm fighting something, don't know if it's a cold or allergies - it started after I cleaned up some stuff from the guest closet- there was some mold on my Frye boots. Who knows and if it's a cold, then I probably exacerbated it with the swim Friday. I have my diabetic formula cough syrup but it doesn't have an expectorant, so I'll have to see if I can find some at CVS down the street.

So, I think I screwed up some of the quotes and responses...so if I did, I'm sorry- one of the drawbacks to being off the forums for a couple of days, wanting to respond to everyone and doing it on the iPad...
I DID IT!! Yesterday at my weigh in I came in at 128.2!! 2 lbs below goal!! I couldn't believe it- I figured that if I made it, it would be close because we all know our home scales tend to be different from the clinic. I weighed right before I left the house, dressed and all and I weighed 128-so within a half hour I weighed at the clinic and I was 128.2 so I am going to say my scale is that close to the clinic-that makes me SUPER happy!!! 4.2 lbs over the holidays to boot! I was going to wait to start P2 until today because we went off Cape yesterday to a giant furniture store and also has a really cool IMAX theater, one of only 7 or 8 in the country to see The Force Awakens-it was amazing-this coming from someone who isn't a big Star Wars fan- I saw the first one several years after it came out with my son when he was little and that's all I've seen. Anyways, I thought it might be too difficult, then I decided to try it anyways- holy lot of food- I never thought I'd say that! We went to a place called Fudruckers and I had an 8 oz burger and mushrooms on a lettuce bed, side salad, then grabbed some tomatoes, onions, peppers and things like that that we can eat and some mustard. So that was lunch. I was STUFFED! That was around 1, then when we headed back home (it's about a two hour ride) we stopped for dinner-(about 830) and I ordered off the gluten free menu-sirloin tips and broccoli. I still felt full from lunch! Needless to say, when I got home, it was about 10 and we went to bed. I couldn't eat my second packet, so I took a crispy square up with me, and when I woke up around 2 to go to the bathroom, I ate my crispy square, drank some water and went back to sleep. It''s 9ish now and I'm having a shake for breakfast. First day I slept in the entire vacation-lol- tomorrow it's back to work and we are expecting snow. Oh joy and merriment-NOT!! But at least my snow pants all fit!! They're actually going to be too big-darn the luck- oh IdealProteinProblems....
So, those of you in P2 and beyond, what did you do for lunch- I know it's the same as dinner, but just curious. I see a lot of grilled chicken thrown on a salad in my future and hard boiled eggs. I'll say, I cannot wait to try the OIJ for my P3 breakfast- that sounds incredible- as did a picture I saw of someone's breakfast on the 2,3,4 page on FB with Ezekial bread French toast and eggs -
The scale wasn't terrible to me this morning - even with all of that food added. I was 127 yesterday and 127.6 this morning (which was what I was Friday) in light of eating out in restaurants twice yesterday, I don't think that's too bad.
I have to finish (finally) listing all the clothes on eBay. I am almost done, hoepfully some wil sell because I am going to have to go through both of the closets again and do the same exact thing. I haven't even thought about tackling the attic.
I suppose the time has come to get up and face the day- my last of vacation. I'm really not looking forward to going back to work. I wish I had another week. Usually I'm ready to get back, not this time. I really enjoyed my time off and getting things done.
Oh, yes, HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all!! Here's to a fabulous 2016 - may we all suffer success!!!!!!!!!!! Have a great Sunday!

Oh yes, I screwed the quotes up towards the end - sorry ...
  • Quote: I DID IT!! Yesterday at my weigh in I came in at 128.2!! 2 lbs below goal!! [/B]

    Need I say more!!
    So happy for you!!
  • Destony - - Congratulation of reaching goal!!
I told my DH that one of my friends on 3fc reached goal and he said now there are only 2 fat chicks.

HIS - I am glad your experiment worked. Maybe you can try adding stuff back in little by little to see how it affects you.

Plans with friends for today were cancelled because she was sick. I think my friend was going to try to make an IP friendly meal. -- so nice. We entertained for the first time last night. Steak and veggies. I made an apple cobbler for DH and guest with Ice cream. For me I had the Chayote caramel apples topped with maple oatmeal crumble and a frozen ready to use vanilla shake. Nice treat.

House looks pretty good and have most of the spare bedroom clean and in the mode for packing a suitcase for the cruise. I managed to get in 10,000 steps with just doing things around the house.

I have my 15000 steps in today already. Long walk for the dog (she did not get one yesterday) and then mall walking with my husband. I really wish our Gym had a track -- the mostly empty mall is a bit depressing.

I bought a zoodle maker before Christmas and tried it out this weekend. So good. I think the zoodles are better than spaghetti squash. I think my DH might even eat zucchini this way.

I also got my order from Nashua Nutrition yesterday. Collagen drinks and jello. So it will be easier and cheaper for me to add that 4th packet when I walk more. I also got a sample of sour cream and herb zippers. If I am reading correctly they are restricted (calories). I think I may split the packet in 1/2 so I can try today -- I miss sour cream and onion chips and then have 1/2 of a lemon wafer packet -- so good.

Crackslaw for supper tonight. My DH is addicted to the stuff. He wanted me to make it last night to go with the steak (without hamburger). We have a very large cabbage left if fridge from our CSA subscription so maybe I will make a double batch for left overs.

    Sue
  • Congrats Destony That's awesome!!!
Jenny I'm the idiot who is rebooting on a Monday!!! Seriously I was just thinking it might have been smarter to have done my 3 sick days over the 3 day weekend, but oh well! I agree with cleansing the body of junk. Wishing you the best of luck.
HISLooks like you are learning what works in maintenance. You are such a rock star with your running!

So today is my official first day of IP Reboot 2016! I am totally ready to feel well again. My hubby and I both agreed that we've been feeling like crap and sleeping horribly. I am ready for the healthy energy of IP. Now to make it through three days of work as my body depletes itself of carbs. Ugh.

Take care everyone. Glad to be back.

His - Sounds like you have a plan for 2016. We did Alaska several years ago and it was a great trip. Are you planning on doing on your own or cruise or combination? We did a one way cruise from Vancouver to Whittier and then did our own thing. We spent the first night in Anchorage then rented a car and drove to Denali. We stayed at a Hostel there (had a private cabin) then did the tour in the national park. We stopped for food in Anchorage before we would have stayed longer but our food supply was low and everything was so expensive there. We then went to Homer and stayed at a bed and breakfast there. Later back to Anchorage for a few days - we spent one day on the the train to Seward. Very nice trip. Saw lots of wide open spaces and wild life.
DH and I did a 7-day cruise through the inside passage in 2014. We both loved it, and now we really want to see more of the main part of AK. He's not normally a group tour kind of person, but he loved the food on the ship (as did I!), and it's a relatively easy way to travel a large area and see a variety of things. I cruised northern Europe with my mom and sister in 2011 and that was amazing; we saw so much in 10 days and I don't think we could have covered that ground by driving.

Linda - CONGRATS on making goal, lady!!! My P2 lunches were often leftovers from dinner the night before, or tuna on a salad.

Beth, I hope you're just busy and not struggling. It always worries me when someone stops posting; makes me think they might be slipping and are too embarrassed to come back.

I loved having my carb dinner(s) over the weekend, but have to be careful with that. This week I'm back to just protein+veg for dinner meals, as I'm really trying to inch the scale downward a bit. Losing even 5 pounds could make a difference in my running times, per the experts.
  • I started my reboot on Jan 1st. I am doing it with alternatives and trying to cook more instead of eating the same thing. Question. I am having 2 ounces of meat or fish at lunch with a cup of veggies. Will this replace a packet? Do I have to take that 2 ounces of my dinner allotment?
So nice to be back on plan. I feel so much better. I used to have a shake in the morning and a bar at noon but now can't use the Quest bars so trying to change things up.
    Thanks.
  • Linda congratulations on reaching goal!

HIS glad to hear the scale has been friendlier in the new year. Hopefully you can reach your maintenance goal.

Welcome to all the new IPers and returning IPers!
