Well, speaking from an even older body it's my understanding that all analgesics/pain medicine/etc. have that effect it's just that OTCs in moderation have a lesser effect. But I'd have to do a lot of Googling to make sure, both here and generally. And my back's starting to spasm so I need to get up and move.

Seriously, though, when my son read my Living Will several years ago he said Boy, if people don't understand how you feel about pain they don't speak English. But don't go cold turkey, either, and remember that pain medication has an accumulative effect and it takes a while to get the meds out of your system. I actually tried to do without for 2 days early last week, but decided whimpering isn't my style. And I'm sure the stress threw some cortisole into my system. It's a tough juggling act. I wish us luck.

Weighing in on the painkiller discussion. After each of three wrist surgeries, I took vicodin for the massive amounts of pain and gained 10lbs each time. I don't feel like I ate very differently at all during those times... Granted I wasn't very active during these times either, but I definitely think the pain meds contributed...

Nope, I actually use a shaker that's meant for mixing alcoholic drinks haha. It's always worked very well for me. It still does, for everything BUT the pineapple drink packets (which is why I wonder if they're possibly spoiled). Hm, I might have to check that out, otherwise I guess I'll have to stop being lazy and pull out the blender. Thanks for the suggestion

BRAVA, Linden!!!.. 12.2 lbs. is wonderful!.. & you are so right, just doing it is the real secret... I just have to get it anchored in my head that something so simple can lead to so much success & STOP trying to make it more than it is...

It seems that weighing on a regular basis works for most people, so I'm not going to speak against it for anybody else, but it just stresses me out... for the first 9 months I was on IP protocol, I never stepped on the scales (since I didn't have a coach to insist on it) & I got through most of that time staying on protocol just fine... the only reason I finally weighed in Feb. this year was I joined the gym & they had to weigh me for my initial evaluation... since then, I've been stressing about that blankety-blank number on the scales... so, a week ago, I decided that number can go straight to Hades, I don't care what it is!.. how I feel & how my clothes fit & how I look in the mirror after my shower are what's important...

Another realization I had yesterday... back in my "fat days" I always felt like I had to have a full tummy all the time during my waking hours... if it wasn't full, I felt like I was starving... but after I got used to IP, got into ketosis, I got used to having an empty stomach several times a day & kinda enjoyed the feeling... I definitely felt lighter & had more energy when I wasn't being weighed down by a lot of food... but in the past couple of months, I've fallen back into that thinking, that my tummy needs to be full all the time, & I've found myself snacking way too much... so, for the next week, I'm gonna be especially mindful of letting myself "go hungry" between meals... I hope that makes a world of difference...

I was so happy to see you on here. There are a few people I remember. Day three is ok - I think I am in Ketosis and all I have to do is check in here twice a day and follow the "plan". It does sound easy. I can do it - I hate the thought of losing some of the same pounds I lost before, but I do what I gotta do. I am glad that you are here.

I am so happy that you have decided to rejoin us. I always enjoyed your posts and was so impressed with your weight loss and commitment to the IP program. I agree with you that it is so difficult to do it alone. This past week was living proof.

A week and a half ago I recommitted to IP and was doing fantastic. I felt great and was totally motivated. Having a stressful weekend and no 3FC Forum interaction, I was off on my self indulgent binges. I was so disappointed in myself and my resolve. Instead of wallowing in my carbo coma, I met up with my IP coach, weighed in and purchased IP product (ouch!). It is better to have pain in my purse than in my waistband. I had been doing alternatives, but have decided to return to what had originally worked for me.

I was especially unhappy today when I had to pick an outfit out from my pile of clothes that I had discarded because they were once too big. Tomorrow does not have to be a repeat of yesterday.

Day 1 on program and counting.

When I read this post it really reminded me of when I had a colonoscopy last year, my weigh flucuated wildly for a few weeks. I think any medical procudure is a shock to the body and it takes a while for it to adjust. I saw on your later post that things are coming back to normal for you. Hope you are feeling great soon.


On another note, I think we need a 50+ thread. It sure is tough to lose weight post menopause.

I get emails from Unjury whey protein (target market is lapband patients).
I do like their products, especially because they don't buy any Chinese ingredients. Anyway I had concluded last year that because I am "carb sensitive" I will pretty much have to eat like a lapband patient for the rest of my life. I found this interesting from the Unjury email:



1. With or without weight loss surgery (WLS), protein is the foundation of weight loss success.

2. Surgeons are good at surgery, but some of them don't know enough about nutrition and weight loss. When a surgeon says, "get back on solid foods", you have to listen closely. If that means ADD solid foods, that of course makes sense. But if that means get off the protein shakes -- that might be bad advice.

3. Many WLS patients -- some say the majority -- of patients don't reach their goal, and even more experience weight regain. We say that is unfortunate, and unnecessary. We talk to many customers every day, and the ones who use UNJURY 3 to 4 times a day during weight loss, and 2 times a day for weight maintenance, are successful at reaching their weight goal and keeping the weight off.

Weight loss success: It's worth it. You can do it.

Today I contacted the our IP office to check what date my last weigh in was and what my weight was. It was 123 on May 13th. Today I weighed in at 130. I need to pull the reigns in before my weight sky rockets again. I am still considered "normal" for my BMI, but my ultimate goal really is to get to 115. The question is do I do it following IP or do it monitoring calories and exercising? IP has been so hard for me to get back on but I know that it works and that I can do it if I have the will power. In the long term it takes less time. Time to focus....what a horrible time of year to try to do this. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas!! I just know I can't go into the holidays without a plan or I'll come out in January being and felling miserable.

Feel like a little time travel? I'll bet if you go back to around the 11th of October 2010, to the Daily Chat (many, many fewer posters) you'll find people wary of the same timing. And succeeding. And I wish you great luck. You've already done so very well.

EDIT: On reflection I checked. IP daily chat 11 oct :3fatchick.com = what I Googled. So I was off a few days. But it was really interesting seeing what people were talking about. Maybe you could live in two worlds?

My day was on the "plan" and I had a mouth that tasted like something died in it, so I can safely say that I am in Ketosis. I weighed this morning, finally, and I weigh more than I thought. Just numbers, I say, and I need to keep focus. I don't think I care what I weigh as long as I can fit back into my size 8 clothes. I almost have nothing to wear and I am not buying anything. I was fanatical about getting rid of clothes that became to large. I loved packing them up and giving them away. Now that I have gained some weight back I am about naked. I bought two pairs of jeans at a garage sale last week. The End (of feeling helpless - because I am not)!

I've thought about this, too. Wondering if people would be willing to admit that they were over 50?

But the more I thought about it the more I realized how individualized we become after 30 or 40. History of childhood diseases (especially measles = shingles, etc., etc.); trauma, both mental and physical; heredity kicking in; accidents that seemed minor at the time; degenerative and autoimmune problems; or temporal things that just happen and then have consequences. (I got hit by a bike tonight but thank goodness the puppy was OK except if he doesn't leave the nineteen year old cat alone I may cream him.)

I guess what I'm saying is that I've come to realize that as we age we become more individual then we ever (thought we) were when we were young, no matter how special and how unique we might have though ourselves or, in fact, were.

Still. I think it's a good idea, if it's helpful to us over 50 or more and, let's be honest, those who will get here eventually -- if they're interested.

Count me in.

Well, I'm checking in after another day. Today is my long day at work...about 12 hours and I always find it difficult at the end of the day when I have a ton of paperwork to catch up on. The worst part is that my office is also our lunch room so I am surrounded by food. I told everyone that I was baaaaaaaaaaack on IP and they need to hide anything they value. They have moved the "candy" drawer on me 4 times so they know when I am on the prowl, I mean business. Tired and hungry can be a pretty ugly combination, but I made it through Day 2 and am feeling very committed to IP.
