  • Sorry - just me again! I just looked at Enough's signature and thought I'd pass on a link to a website relating to a TV program we've got over here in Great Britain. In particular this link relates to a way of dealing with cravings. Its hard to explain so take a look and perhaps give it a try out if you get uncontrollable cravings. Its working for me when I get a craving for cheese.

  • Good Morning Chicks & Reggie!

It's a good day here in Central Florida....we'll all be gathering for Dad's celebration of life on Thursday. Our daughter will arrive from Wyoming this evening....a treat for me! Her hubby's at home with the grans...so it will be great opportunity for some "Us" time.

Am on-plan...but no Pilates this week. Too much happening here, and have to drive a bit South to meet up with siblings for gathering.

Welcome all Newbies...we're here to stay!

So glad to have you all!

    More when time allows.....
  • HI

I feel better already! Hi Gail - we are probably neighbors. My name is Sara, and there is far too much of Sara lately. I am a bigtime emotional eater - my drug of choice. Honestly, I know it is the best drug to choose, but being close to 200 lbs, I am starting to wonder. (I even joined LA weight loss - and didn't like the girls - so whaddu-I have to be best friends with these people? ) I am really going to try to stay with you guys instead - So many names for all of you and so little memory left.

    Have a great day, girls!

    Sara

This sounds like I am lying- but my hobby is working out - I have done Body for Life and it is so easy - if anyone wants some tips let me know. Of course, you can't see all my great muscles under this roll of mine. I will get you to work out if you get me to quit bingeing. xo
  • Sara - try clicking that link I gave in my last post - it helps with the cravings.
  • Good morning everyone,
Gail, I'm making an effort to controle the eating at night, and I do save enough calories to cover it. All the suggestions for snacks were good, and I do use them. I also try to have some raw vegetables in the fridge. So why don't I want them instead of chocolate?

Welcome to the newbies, Liz and Sarah. This is a great place for support. We're all on different diets but we're all in this together.

Liz, Diabetes is a terrible disease (i'm an RN). Hopefully losing weight and getting some exercise will eliminate some of the medications you're taking right now. And exercise does help too. i know you said you couldn't do much exercise, but what about walking? That's great exercise. And warm weather will be here soon (I hope) and you get get back out to the pool!

We have a little Shih Tzu that rules the house too. We adopted him when he was 15 months old and he is so adorable and loving!

Cheryl, you must have been so scared when you hit the deer! How much damage did it do to the car? You are doing so well! You are almost at your valentines day goal already!

    Joan, Happy belated birthday!

Sarah Ann, Sounds like you get enough exercise allready! 2 hours a day walking! So maybe it's just your food that you have to take more controle of. Did I say that like I thought it was easy!!!! I'm working on it daily, or should I say nightly! I seldom have problems during the day.

Lafnvegas, Thanks for the vote of confidence! I know the weight will come off, but it's taking it's own sweet time! Even though i'm having a hard time with the night time snacking, i'm still staying within my calorie count. And i'm exercising most days. Even at work I make sure I take the stairs instead of the elevators. I add all the steps I can.

Take care everyone, have a good day, Freda
  • Good Morning Everyone

Sara aka Enough and Anyone Else I missed

Sara I do have a question for you, What exactly is the L.A. Weight Loss??? I hear it advertised so much here in Las Vegas and a local Radio personality has lost 55 pounds doing it. I just do not know what is does.

Jill, sounds like everything is coming together. I am glad that you will get to have some time with your daughter and hope all goes well Celebrating your Dad's Great Life.

Happy Belated Double Nickle to Joan

As many of you know I was so determined to have to loose 18 pounds from January 1st till when we cruise Feb 4th. In my heart I knew it was not realistic and I was really killing myself being an Exercise machine. Plus I was constantly dwelling on loosing the pounds. Well, I can honestly say since this past weekend when I bought the new dresses I feel much better about everything. Even if I only loose a pound a week before I go the dresses will still fit good and I will look great. I still plan to work hard everyday at exercise and staying on plan but I am no longer feeling like I need to worry about it. The last few days I am definitely starting to feel a lot thinner and I can see it with several of my dress slacks I wear to work. I still have a long way to go but I have decided that maybe it will come off easier not dwelling on it.

The next two nights I do have some challenges, tonight we are taking some friends out to dinner to celebrate the wifes 59th B-Day. I plan to not have champagne or dessert and plan to order Salmon. I feel if I plan ahead I can stay relatively good. Tomorrow we are going out with another couple to the Mirage Buffet, that will be the worst challenge the only thing will be that the next morning I will have to weigh in so I am sure that thought will help in my decisions of what I eat. We did go to Applebee's last night and I had the Tilapia, I really like that. DH had a steak that he thought was pretty good so he said he would be willing to go there once a week to help me to stay on plan.

Well, Better get back to work.

    Have a great day Everyone
  • Good morning, all!

Sara and Liz! I, too, have a zoo at home consisting of 3 cats (aka The Three Stooges) and a gold-capped conure who can out shriek and will probably outlive all of us. Home also includes that most intriguing and occasionally delightful of creatures, a teenage son, who will be 16 in a few weeks! While many on this thread are fortunate to have very supportive husbands, I consider myself very lucky too, because I have a very supportive EX-husband! We have somehow managed to remain good friends and he is a terrific dad.

Joan, HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY! Hope you had a great day and will have a terrific year.

Cheryl, that Valentine's goal is definitely within reach, and I'm so excited for you!!

Hope everyone has a great day!
  • Hi Laurie, How old is your Conure? Our Green Cheek named "Baby" is about 16 years old and we have had her since from the time they finished hand feeding her. What is funny about 3 years ago she started to lay eggs in December right before Christmas. The first three years she laid 4 eggs this year she laid 5. We always let her sit on them for about 35 days then we take them away about the time she becomes disinterested. Today is the day the eggies (as we call them) go away. I am not sure how old Conures get. I do know that our two Cockatoos will most likely out live us. They are both about 13 years old and acting like bratty teenage girls that they are.
  • Along for the ride !
    Hi to all,

You all sound so nice, and also like you are having fun in here. I would like to join in your daily fun if I may. I am 58 yrs. old, lost 93 pounds 3 yrs. ago, gained 65 back. Time to put a stop to this cycle. I pulled a bit of information from a member the other day and she said when she has a week she looses, she puts $2.50 in a kitty for a shopping spree later on for clothes. Sounded like a terrific idea to me. Hope you guys can make use of it, I know I am. I look forward to chatting with many of you, even though I still can't find my way around this site yet! Anyone know how to get to my buddy list? LOL God bless all of you, see ya.
    Lydia Mae (Carol)
  • Hi again!

I wish I would have found you guys years ago. I love coming home and talking to you all. Thanks for the "tapping away the cravings" tips - I don't like LA weight LOSS at all. It is a gimmick - they get you to love the place - you sign up and then all they do is push their VERY expensive products.. bars etc. I have four kids - two still in college, so I can't do it. I paid $50 a month for 6 months and now I get more support from all of you. Every time I go there they want me to spend $400 more on bars and shakes. Geesh!

I have to do my own thing. I had an eating disorder in my 20's so dieting is very scary for me. I don't tell a lot of people that bc they think you are crazy - but I would rather be 290 than 100. So, I am doing this as methodically as I can - and thanks for being so open. I also went through a ton of depression when my kids all left home - my poor husband - and I gained another 15. I am on my way up up up and away in weight- if I don't get a hold of this now. Thanks friends!!

Hi Carol... let's do it, girl!!

  • Weight loss is a life style
Hi Enough, weight loss is a life style of eating correctly as far as I can see it. Knowing the right foods, watching the portions, and be careful with food preparation. I' ve been a weight watcher for 4 yrs. Lost 93 pounds, gained 65, and haven't gone to meetings in 2 years. I decided I wanted to interact at home with some friends who struggle like me. I believe in the buddy system, and talking it out . It helps to get a fresh idea, a fresh outlook for the future, and a whole new appreciation for everyone around you who struggles with this weight thing . You sound like you are trucking right along and have gained that assurance you need to move forward, and NOT let it get to you. One day at a time is the key isn't it. Have a great day , & God's Blessing for you and for all my new friends.

    Carol
  • Thanks for the words of encouragement ladies. Very frustrating when you truly stay on plan and no loss. Oh well it is comforting to know I am not alone. You are so right when you say ENOUGH sometimes I wonder how did you wait this long you big turkey. But tomorrow I won't be as fat as today. I hope anyway

Hi Lisa, Gonzo is about 25 years old (my memory is not serving me!). I also got her from a pet store that hand-raised all their birds. Originally, I had put a deposit on a Sun Conure, and would go into the store several times a week to play with her. She didn't like me! One day, I noticed a little green gold-capped conure perched near the owner, who had become a friend of mine. She explained that the little one was one of the previous year's babies. She had sold it to the dad of a friend of hers. Unfortunately, the dad passed away, and his widow couldn't bear to even see the bird because it reminded her of her loss. The poor bird sat in a room alone for a few months until my friend brought her back to the shop. It was love at first sight for both of us! That same day, a family walked in and went right for my sun conure, who returned the love to them! Fate!!

I've heard that conures can live to around 35 years old, and yes, cockatoos can live years longer. We always thought Gonzo was a boy until "he" started laying eggs! Now, she lays 2-3 a year. I let her sit on them for a few days and then I remove them.

Lydia Mae, WELCOME, WELCOME!! I like the idea of setting money aside for a new wardrobe. However, I already have a closet full of smaller sizes, so I may put that money toward a manicure, pedicure, facial, or some other luxury! Thanks for the great idea.

Hi Enough! You're right -- everyone has to approach this weight loss battle their own way -- no one has the right to judge one method over the other. We're here to cheer each other on and share the unique time that is our 50s. My wish is that everyone succeeds and feels lovelier and healthier than they have in years!

luflic, I love your comment about "tomorrow I won't be as fat as today." I need to remember that when the scale doesn't move for a few days -- regardless of what the number is, if I'm sticking to my plan then at least inside I'm getting stronger and healthier.

    Laurie

and Laurie I love your quote about being stronger and healthier inside...I need to remember that during those plateau times. Thanks

Carol, I totally agree with you and pretty much done the same as you. I have been a Life Time Member of WW for years and always go back to following the program when I get serious at least this time I did not let it get as bad. January 2004 my high was 194 and was the highest I had ever been and for 4'11" that is pretty high. Since I was turning 50 in November 2004 I knew I had to loose the weigh before I turned 50 so that was my goal. I got down to a low of 135 for a day but pretty much stayed at 138 to 139. Then in 2005 I kind of let it slip and I let it creep up to 148. I stayed there thru April, May, July, August, Sept. and into October when I left on my last cruise. Well, I came home from the cruise and had only gained 3 pounds which really was not bad but then suddenly I was eating EVERYTHING. For the first time in many years I actually went out and bought Halloween candy (Butterfingers just for me) I was so bad all the way thru the holidays. So January 1st I get on the scale and I weigh 166 I just cannot let that happen again. I truly feel I have it back under control. Honestly I think the main key is exercise to change our metabolism. It just is so easy to add the pounds and so darn hard to take it off.

I have not been to a WW meeting in years and did the 56 pound weight loss totally on my own. As long as you know WW and follow it and boost the metabolism the weight will come off. It basically is common sense with no BIG secret. You must burn more calories than you consume so that your body starts to burn fat. Just plain and simple. It is just about making good choices, sure we can cheat but we also have to discipline ourselves to not let it get out of control.

I know with all of us helping each other and knowing we are accountable to each other we can ALL DO IT.
