I hate calories. :-( I tried to have a pb sandwich once with my daughter & I almost DIED when I saw the calories for that little of a serving. I nixed the pb and opted for a WW meal instead. I get full from those & they run 180-300 calories. I just feel more satisfied then I would of with pb toast. I'll TRY to eat peanut butter though. I guess I do need to get over this calorie phobie I now have huh? :-)

Yes!!!

The thing is, if you were already eating a healthy number of calories, then I can see saying "nah, pb has too many calories". But when you're struggling to eat enough calories, then to turn down pb, especially if it's something you *like* is silly.

For you, a 1700 calorie day would be a GREAT day .. and if you can get there by having 2 T of pb on a slice of whole wheat bread - that's an awesome calorie boost for you.

Holy Crap 1700! You can not be serious?! Does anything else think PhotoChick is CRAZY! I eat 1300 and I'm like, wow I did really good today eating A LOT of food! I'm usually so full I want to vomit on days I reach 1300, I felt like I'd been eating all day long!

I agree with PhotoChick. I lose less when I eat less. Definately eat PB!! You like it, and it will give you a great calorie boost. If your eating the natural kind, it will give you healthy fats that you NEED.

Wait... what? Do you know what a calorie is?!? It's ENERGY!! Energy you NEED.
*It's not an option.*
It's not something you can decide you "hate."

Nope. I eat that much too, maybe more. I'm not even counting calories. The thing is, sure, people need different calorie levels. *Some* even are fine on 1200. But to be *mystified* by eating 1700 calories, which is still a dieting level, not a maintenance level ... that is crazy

Hunger and satiety are complicated things. They can be good signals if you're eating well and have practiced listening to them. But just as you can eat way too much, and of the wrong things, and end up hungry all the time because of it - you can also eat too little, and eventually your body gets used to it and the hunger lessens. Doesn't necessarily mean you're eating enough.

To be honest, it makes me so sad to see women so afraid of calories and food. You can't live without them. They're a basic need and a basic joy in life. They are sustaining, and thinking they are so evil seems like thinking that sustaining yourself is evil.

It's one thing to struggle with PB when you're having too many calories and it's causing a problem. But to just not have it, because of the fat & calories, even when you're trying to increase your calories? I just don't get it.

Hey I've brought them up from less then 750 to around 1100 on most days, that's good! I am putting in effort to eat more, even though it goes against what I "want" to do. It seems so badwards: eat more, loss more... WEIRD! :-) Maybe I'll start making pb toast my breakfast staple... I currently don't eat breakfast just coffee. Food kinda makes me feel sick in the morning, i've avoided eating breakfast my whole life!

Honey, I weigh 40 lbs less than you and I'm an inch shorter, and I'm still losing on 1500 calories. When I started losing weight, I started out eating 1800 calories until I reached about 170 lbs and I lost weight like crazy. I didn't drop to 1500 until I hit the mid 170s and stalled out a little.

Every calorie calculator out there will give you a range of 1600-1900 at your height and weight.

The Mayo Clinic says 1850
Freedieting.com says 1773
Internet fitness says 1720
Discovery health says 1690
Prevent disease says 1690
Fitwatch says 1765

You could (and should) eat within that range and be healthy. Anywhere from 1500-1800 is a range you should be playing with, depending on how much exercise you're getting for the day.

As far as eating so much you're feeling sick ... this is EXACTLY what I'm talking about when you emphasize volume over quality. If you don't want to eat so much volume, then pb would be perfect for you.

And lest it seem I'm harping on pb, it's not just pb. It's any food that is somewhat high in calories but has a LOT of nutrition. Things like peanut butter, avocado, olive oil, almonds, etc.

.

Right now I'm losing a pound and half per week (on average) eating about 1800 calories per day. Occasionally (like when my mom and sister came to visit last weekend) I eat a little more, but rarely do I ever go below 1500. In fact, I find that when I eat too little, my weight loss completely stops, and I need to start eating more to get my body humming again.

Seriously, eat.

This post is fabulous. THANK YOU ALL! I never know if I'm eating enough, and I always worry that I have TOO much, so I dip below 1400 for a while. I can guess why I'm not seeing any results, even with my 30 day shred

Also, extrasee, one option with a T of pb is just eat it with a spoon! :P I craved protein last night and pb sounded delish...so I just licked small "bites" out of a tablespoon. It was yummy, and satisfying. Like the pb milkshakes I was addicted to before this...only WAY MORE HEALTHY.

I DO EAT! I understand what all of you guys are saying, but DAMN! You guys make it sound like I straight up don't eat & have some eating disorder or something. I will continue to do my best at losing this weight, just like EVERYONE OF US IS! We are all trying our best & doing what we think we have to do. Advice is wonderful & always appreciated, most of the time it's actually taken & used. I have significantly upped my intake the last couple of weeks, be proud of that! A word of advice to anyone not eating at least 1500 a day, DON'T EVER, EVER ADMIT IT!! They will jump all over you! hahaha!!!

Okay... a few things:

I think you do. You're afraid of calories, you admited to throwing up after meals, and you don't eat enough. If you don't have a eating disorder, you certainly have a very unhealthy relationship with food.

Only because help is asked and people care. If no one cared, they would tell you to eat whatever you wanted. What benefit do I get for telling you that your not eating enough? My day isn't affected wheather you eat 500 calories or 5000 calories! It's because people care.

Honestly, it's just a little difficult for me to reconcile these two quotes:

We make it sound like you have an eating disorder because you WRITE AND ACT like you have major major problems with food (and that... is an eating disorder.) You are crying for help most of the time and the ladies here CARE enough about you and your well being to try to help!!!!!

I would much rather people admit when they are eating far less so we can get them the help that we need. It's called a support group but we will NOT tolerate people mindlessly abusing their bodies.

And for the record... posting a very inflammatory statement like don't ever admit if you are eating under 1500 cals, they'll jump on you and the posting a afterwards... is just insulting.

WE CARE ABOUT YOU. WE WANT YOU TO SUCCEED!!!!!!!!!! Please learn from these incredibly smart women.
