Nursing and not losing!

  • me either!
My second daughter is now 8 months old. I have been nursing her full-time and even though she is on solids now, she still nurses a lot! I go to the gym 3 days a week to work with a personal trainer and have been working with a nutritionist. I have lost nothing ...a few inches but nothing off the middle. I refuse to get on a scale because I know there will be no change. After she was born I lost almost all of it within the first couple weeks...but once she started nursing effectively it all came back. After a long talk with my trainer my current plan is to maintain until she stops nursing. I figure that as long as I keep eating healthfully and exercising I will at least be doing something beneficial. Hopefully I can keep the motivation up for the next 4 +/- months, which is tough to do when you work so hard and get nothing for it! So hang in there. There are many of us out there that know what you are going through.
  • I found with DD1 that I didn't lose the weight until I stopped breastfeeding when she was 13 months, and then I lost it all (and then some) via lots and lots of exercise - basically walking about 12km a day on average. (For work I had to walk that much).

This time around I gained a lot more during the pregnancy than I did last time, which is why I am going to try and be far more strict with myself. However this time I'm recovering from a cesarean whereas last time I had a very easy natural birth... so I'm not going to start any exercise (other than walks starting this week) til after my 6wk check. So any weight loss in the meantime is mostly through natural loss and some feigned attempt at eating well (though over the Christmas period that can be a challenge, lol).

Anyway after that ramble basically what I'm trying to say is last time it didn't drop off for me til after I finished feeding, but this time because of extra weight gain I'm gonna try a lot harder to lose whilst still feeding.
  • Just can't lose
Hello everyone! I am very new to this site, just joined today. I feel so much better now that I found this site, I know I am not *abnormal*, now I know that lots of other mothers have the same *problem*. I have a 6 months old boy whom I nurse 6-7x a day. I gained 38# while PG and lost 20# within 2 months, and now it has been 4 months and that darn scale would not move, oh yeah, it moved up 1# within last 2 weeks. I thought that BF was supposed to help. I tried to eat less and right away saw a dicrease in my milk supply. I am lazy, just don't have a desire to get sweaty after my shower (which I have to take at 6-7am when my boy wakes me or I will be sleepy all day) and there is always something to do later on in the day when I would not mind a little exercise. My mom-in-law says that the weight will come off once I stop BF, is that true? I wonder because she never breastfed her kids.
  • It may be true. It is for some women. There won't be a way to know until you wean. If I ever actually wean, I'll tell you.
  • Need a little advice
I was nursing my 9 month old and got pregnant on Jan 1st, 2006. My babies are now 20 months and 3 months old. I weighed 173 when I got Pregnant with #2 and only gained 20 lbs. I lost all that within the first few weeks. I am nursing my baby and plan to continue. I am wanting to lose some weight for many reasons. To look and feel better, have more energy and I have a 20 yr class reunion coming up this summer. Any advice would be helpful. I plan on continuing nursing and would love to lose at least 20-25 lbs by July. Think it is possible? How many calories should I be eating (to lose)? Thanks in advance~
