Well, we had a lovely day shopping. Got the groceries without too many hassles, but we did end up going to 3 different stores seeing as we couldn’t find all that we wanted in just one or two. Still, it gave us a good walk around the malls.
I did VERY well, and didn’t buy any clothes, but I did buy some kids books on the Sea, which is our theme for this term. We found a GREAT store over the holidays that has a very different range of books to what we normally see, and I am just in my element looking for books. I’m sure I spent WAY too much, and there are still more I want to get. Oh dear… I know my motto is that “you can never have too many books”, but I wish it came with an overflowing bank account.

Now I just have to work out activities to do with the books in the classroom. I am having a “Triple B Day” (Beautiful, Bountiful Books… or… Blankets, Bears and Buddies) in a few weeks where we clear out all of the desks and chairs from the room and the kids bring sleeping bags, blankets, pillows, cushions, teddies, toys, snacks and LOTS of books. We all wear our pyjamas (I get to wear my Pooh pyjamas for the first time!) and read books and do book related activities for the day. I have done this the last couple of years and it is an absolute hit! Past students ask whether I will be doing it again as they loved it so much. In fact a couple asked this year if I would take them again (grade 6!) so they could have another Triple B Day. I’m sure I look a right idiot in my pjs for the day, but who cares. We have to be a little silly now and then. And at least I am warm in my pjs, dressing gown and slippers. Now I just hope we have a cold day on that day, not the 85F days we’ve had lately.
Getting back to my day… We also had a lovely visit into the city. We had to go and exchange my necklace I got for Valentine’s Day as some links snapped. It has a very intricate network of links and the lady told me today that it needs to be laid out flat when I take it off. Well, nobody told me that when I bought it, so I’ve just been putting it in my jewellery box as normal. It got a few kinks, that I very gently straightened out, but that must have weakened the links. At least I know how to look after it now.
We also wanted to check out when the Borders store opens here and it is March 25th! I can’t wait for that Sunday! I can’t go earlier, as I will be in the city, but I will be at a conference. That is the other reason we had to go into the city. We wanted to book into the hotel where the conference is being held, as it is on Friday evening, till 9:45pm (that is if I don’t want to go to the social gathering afterwards, which I won’t, because I will be falling asleep on my feet by then. Have I mentioned before that I am a MORNING person) and then it starts again on Saturday at 8:30am. We live about half an hour out of the city and it just seemed MUCH easier to stay at the hotel. At least I should get some sleep that way. The conference goes till 5:30pm Saturday I think, which is going to make for a VERY long day of concentrating. It is at a very nice hotel (Hyatt), so hopefully everything will be pretty good. Now I just have to hope that the meals will include something healthy. I’m not used to eating THAT many meals away from home. I’m going to try to take my own snacks, as they don’t often include healthy food as snacks.
That has been pretty much it for my day, now I’m just relaxing. It is going to be odd not exercising this evening, as I haven’t missed a Saturday evening for a LONG time. At least hubby and I got a good walk in when we were in the city as the hotel is a 20+min walk from where we parked. We also added a little extra on at the end. I know I probably shouldn’t be doing that, but I love our walks. I’m hoping to get another walk in tomorrow, as the weather is supposed to be gorgeous again. Now I just have to convince myself to not go on the treadmill in the morning and to do the walk INSTEAD, not as well as the treadmill.
Mel – I read your response to Kayley and it took me a while to register that you must have been in the front office somewhere. At first I thought that you were a guard or something… or a door (LOL)… when you told her that she’d “have to go through you”. We often say “You’ll have to get through me first!” when we are trying to protect something or someone. Sorry… my mind just wasn’t with it and I got a little ‘silly’ when I read that.
Kayley – You mentioned getting on Andrew’s bike before getting ‘cleaned up’. Are you just really dirty from doing more gardening or something, or are you getting cleaned up before going out for a night on the town? Perhaps it is both. I know you have spent a LOT of time working in the garden lately. You must be getting some really good workouts with that. If you were going out, I hope you had a lovely time.
Xena – Yep, the more I think about it, the more I think that the doctor has a good point. I’ve just never really looked at what I did as something so major, but I suppose it is. Being half my body size has to make a difference with more than just my ‘size’, and I think my body is just telling me that in its own ‘quirky’ way.
Sorry you missed the ESL graduation, but as you said, you must have definitely needed that sleep. I hope you are feeling fully refreshed now.
Good luck at WW tomorrow. You never know, you may surprise yourself. At least if you don’t lose, or show a gain, you know you can lose again soon, so don’t stew over it. I have come to that decision lately. I know how to lose weight now, and I am doing all of the right things, so if I see a gain I know I can soon get it off again.
Well, I’m off to peruse the other threads. I am usually having a nap at this time on a Saturday, but I am feeling quite ‘awake’ at the moment, which is wonderful. I also don’t have to rush off to exercise, so I find myself with time on my hands. I know… I could be doing school work, or housework, but HEY!... I’m going to take advantage of being awake and catch up on some posts.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
Take care,
Zelma
