My hubby loves me so much...he brought home a cold and shared it with me. Only mine has turned into something much worse! I've had this for 7 days and now I've lost my voice. WHAT NEXT?
I had my blood checked again last Thursday. They called me yesterday and said it has only gone up slightly.
It was: hemoglobin 1st time - 9.4 ... this time - 10
hematocrit 1st time - 28 ... this time - 28.4
Average hemoglobin is supposed to be 12 - 16 and average hematocrit is supposed to be around 45 so you see what I'm up against. My daughter sent me several articles she found on the internet about anemia ... I thought this one was interesting. (not that I'm
elderly!!!)
DETERMINING A NORMAL, SAFE HEMOGLOBIN LEVEL IN THE ELDERLY
ANCHOR LEAD:
One of the most common blood tests to measure health is coming under scrutiny following a new study. Mat Edelson reports…
A new study in older women may push doctors to reconsider what a normal hemoglobin count is in elderly patients. Hemoglobin count measures the amount of energizing oxygen in red blood cells. For younger women, a 12 to 16 count is considered normal. With the elderly, some doctors accept slightly lower, mildly-anemic numbers, believing that older people are less active and don't need as much oxygen. A large Johns Hopkins study showed that kind of thinking may be dangerous, as it linked a count of 12 with impending frailty. Study author Paulo Chaves…
One of the consequences is that it is linked to mobility disability, which is a major problem because people may develop mobility difficulties and then stop doing their daily activities, do less exercise, not walk that much, then maybe develop mobility dependency and increase the risk of mortality.: 20
Women with counts of 12 were up to one-and-half-times more likely to have difficulty with activities of daily living.
At the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, I'm Mat Edelson reporting.
Mima... 130 IQ can't possibly be considered genius because mine is 133 and I'm really dumb!!!

My eight yr. old grandson had his IQ tested right before school was out and he tested out at 127. I'd like to know what Ross' is ... he's the 6 yr. old who is bipolar. His probably goes off the charts! He went to Sylvan last year and they didn't do IQ tests. They are going to try him in public school this year and I dread it for him soooo bad. He's staying with me this summer. He's the best kid ... so sweet and loving! One day last week he hit a hyper mood ... 'bout drove me nuts! But so far so good!
