Turbo - I agree that Supersize vs Superskinny isn't exactly "feel good" television, but I really highly recommend Secret Eaters. It's funny, cheeky, informative and entertaining without being at all scary or depressing. It's basically folks saying "I don't know why I'm gaining weight because I hardly eat anything at all!" and then come to find out (hidden cameras and investigators following them) that they are chowing down MASSIVE amounts of calories without realizing it. It's actually really relevant to a lot of the people on this forum who say "Um, am I not eating enough? Why do I still weigh so much?" They actually say all the things that I want to say to some of these people but don't want to be rude... haha
I do a lot of speed work myself. I'm not a big fan of running for distance, so instead I keep things intense and break it up into intervals when I run. Today for example, I did 4 rounds of 5 minutes HARD running with sprints followed by a 2 minute walk. Since the rounds are short enough to run at a high effort but long enough to actually fatigue me, it helps both my endurance AND my speed.
Your soup sounds delish! As you can probably see from my pictures, I'm a big fan of spinach and lentils, especially together.
Alexis - Learning to deal with your emotions while keeping food out of it is HUGE! The fact that you're hanging in there and trying to find new coping skills is nothing to gloss over. We are a world of emotional eaters, and I can tell you the I personally used to be the WORST emotional eater. It wouldn't matter what it was; if the smallest thing happened that was unexpected or somehow put me off my plan I would immediately turn to food. I don't know when it was that I finally got a grip on things... I guess it happened over time and now looking back I can see how bad I used to be with emotional eating and binging. The fact that you are conscious enough of it to actively try NOT to use food to soothe yourself is impressive.
Jessica - What happened this weekend to make you stray from you plan? It didn't look like you were upset over it, so was it just more of a break or did you actually binge as you mentioned?
Either way, yeah, it's probably a good idea to get back on plan.

I wouldn't stress the gain too much - we've all been there and as everyone else has said, it's probably 80% water retention and the remaining bit isn't hard to get off if you just buckle down a bit and focus for a week or so.
Thats great that your dad is feeling well enough to do the race with you!
Thanks for the tip on the squash too. I did like the flavor and need to experiment with it a bit more, but I haven't had the opportunity lately as I've been traveling a bit more.
Krampus - Thats a good point about the gym atmosphere. I didn't like the televisons with "Golds Gym TV" on all the time and you could tell that the trainers didn't give a crap about their clients. The patrons weren't the only ones glued to their cell phones! I really dislike that Golds used to be snyonymous with the Mecca of bodybuilding, but in reality the chain as a whole caters to the 'Quick Fix' crowd. Then again... that's America for you!
I'll be having the Turkey bratwurst and asparagus for dinner again tonight.
Hmmm, least favorite exercises? Burpees for sure, Swiss Ball passes (abs), box jumps... thats about it. I actually love to workout because I'm a sicko.
Wow, your neighbors sound like fun... yeesh! I'm happy that I live in a house and have nice neighbors!

Is it just me or is today like CRAWLING by? Ugh, I wish it would go faster! I just hate when I do all my work early on in the day and then have to sit here piddling the rest of the afternoon away watching the clock. At least I was productive today; I got my military records all updated to reflect the new marriage and I got my Degree nomination done so that I'll get my diploma next month for my CCAF... among other menial things.
TBH I'm just excited to get home and watch more Secret Eaters! LOL
My hubby surprised me this morning with an itinerary in my email Inbox... he's coming out to visit over Columbus Day Weekend (October 5-8). It will be nice to have him here and to be able to cook in MY kitchen and sleep in MY bed! Now I just have to figure out some activities for us while he's here. I think we can go to the pumpkin farm and pick pumpkins, check out the zoo, maybe go trap shooting... we'll figure it out.
