Turkey Bacon

  • Beef jerky is pretty lean. A lot better choice than chocolate and more protein!
  • The bacon that I've found and used is called Fresca. It's available at Costco. I have two slices maybe once a week, generally with my two eggs on weigh in night since I get home late and want a quick dinner. It's not turkey bacon, per se, but it's good and really does fill that craving.

We have also purchased a specific Canadian bacon from Costco because it fits the profile of Fresca and so far so good.

Not something I want to have too often or too close to weigh in (because of the increased sodium - don't want water retention before weigh in) but I have run it past my coach and she didn't say no. And she has said no before to other stuff.
  • Recent studies are showing that salt is not bad for you. Low carb diets cause the body to lose a lot of sodium, which is why they want you to ensure you use the salt. Otherwise you can get lightheaded.

Other low carb diets encourage drinking chicken bullion every day. I have seen a few ip sites that required the use of one soup packet every day to ensure adequate sodium intake.
  • Uh oh.....my coach said turkey bacon was fine. Guess I'll find out when I weigh in on Monday since I've been eating it everyday this week.
  • Salt restriction
Quote: Oh no! Say it isn't so. Since when is salt "so restricted?" It isn't mentioned on any of my sheets and my coach has never mentioned it. In fact, a container of pink salt was included in my initial welcome packet when I signed up.

I'm not sure about the turkey bacon, but I am positive I have read where some people on the boards use it. Different coaches say different things, often bringing their own personal opinion into their answer and not totally going with IP protocol.

Does anyone know anything about salt now being restricted? I'm losing just fine using it on my food. Heck - with all of the water we drink, I don't see why there would be an issue. Unless, of course, someones doctor has them on a salt-restricted diet. Last I checked, there were no calories, carbs or fat in salt. Anyone?
    Hi,
I’ve been to 2 different IP clinics in 2 states and each office has consistently stated both verbally and on their “getting started sheet” that salt is limited to sea salt and only 1-2 tsps a day
  • I like more fish recipes
    Especially grilled sea bream!
    Delicious!
