Hmm... Let's try this place again...

  • Mario... i sucked at mario... lol Still do! I got Mario Kart for Wii and even that I'm not too good at. Walked again today the 2.3 miles. I'm so sore and got sooo many blisters.
  • i want mario kart, i have played it a couple of times. awesome job walking, im going to start something, i think i might put in my biggest loser wii game and just use it without the board since i weigh too much for the board right now and i saw netflix has a few instant ones to rent, now if i just had somewhere private to exercise, have to do it in the living room, in front of whoever else is in there,, im a private person..so this might be rough!!
  • Good luck! I had a lot going on today so i didn't get walking in and now it's dark and there's no way I'm walking in the dark. So I'll just take a day off.
  • Hmm just hopped on the scale and I'm up 3 pounds. I went around looking at some posts other people had made and thought about my current situation and how it's really not all that bad and I can work something out of this. Lemons into lemonade kind of thing. I know mom's work schedule so I can schedule lunch around then. The only problem I have is getting up early enough to eat breakfast with enough break in between for lunch. I'm a night owl... once out of high school my body went into this whole "you must stay up until 3am and sleep in until noon or later" thing and I've tried EVERYTHING since then to break it and basically been just lacking some sleep. So I guess I'll just try getting up earlier. I have found myself getting tired earlier since starting this whole walking thing. So... new plan. I went and printed out some of these food 'n' mood journal pages... kinda like a food diary thing and I thought I'd do what I see everyone else doing. Try to keep what I eat to 1500 - 1650 calories and document what i eat. I may not have much choice in what i eat for lunch but I do have a choice of how much of what is served i eat. Now i just gotta deal with the after 10pm munchies... Any ideas? So far I've just been chowing down on trail mix and cheese its.
  • You don't have to be on a "normal" eating schedule. Not everyone is a day shift person so just adjust your eating schedule. I work from 7 pm til 5 am and sleep from 8:30 am til noon then go back to sleep at 1:30 and get up at 4 pm. So I eat a serious of mini meals in between sleeping and I eat twice at work. I try to eat before I leave work so I have some fuel to do my workout when I get home. Then before I take the kids to school I eat something small (like cheerios w/skim milk or english muffin w/ light cream cheese) so I'm not starving when I wake up.

So just adjust your schedule to your needs. If you are snacking at 10 but not going to bed til 3 why not just make 10 your dinner time?
  • I don't see how I'm going to be having any mealSSS at all! All I had was toast with jam (Brunch), grilled cheese sandwhich and a thing of ramen (the sandwich and one package of ramen as dinner) and that's all the calories I can have? Toast and a meal? That's it! I had like maybe 200 left and so had a banana and tea. But holy ****? How the **** am I going to get 3 meals out of this? I couldn't even fit any more in like veggies cause that was all bread and pasta.
  • Healthy Choices. Fruit, veggies, and nuts and good fillers and they are good for you. Also I saw that you like video games and have a wii. I love love love Just dance. Throw yourself into it and the weight melts off. No joke. I wish you all the luck!
  • yea i have a wii, but no money. I need walking shoes and that's about all i can afford to get right now but only because i have to dip into savings for that even though i don't really want to. the only two games for Wii I have and will have are Animal Crossing and Mario Kart.
  • I... Am... So... Hungry...

You have to find a way to structure your meals so that you get more volume for your calories...otherwise, you'll end up not eating much and running out of calorie room.

I understand you have access issues, but you might want to check out the Shoestring Meals forum for ideas for getting healthy foods on the cheap. It may mean opting out of some of the roommate cooked meals and going on your own to cook. It may mean cooking yourself a big batch of something on the weekend to heat up when things get busy.

So, what CAN you do to better control your food intake? Take control of cooking for everyone, so you can make it healthier in a subtle way? Cook and eat your meals independently? It's either that (find a way to cook foods that are higher volume for your calories) or train your body to be happy with less food...but in my experience, the first option is a lot easier to do long-term.
  • I tried that already and everyone hated what I made because it didn't have meat in it.
  • Then eat for you! Are you doing this for them or you. I make this veggie soup. Lots and lots and lots of veggies and half of a chicken breast you can almost eat the whole pot for like 300 calories. Also drink a huge glass of water wait 10 mins and see if you are still hungry. Also Crystal Light has this amazing drink called hunger control. Mix the packet with 16 oz of water and it makes you fill full for a few hours for only 30 calories. Sleep. I know that sounds funny but when I am grumpy and hungry and I am out of points I just simply go to bed. I am here if you ever need to talk. I spend lots of time online and crave human adult conversations. (stay at home mom to 3 kids hubby works all the time)
  • If they won't eat it, you still can...more healthy meals prepped and set aside for you, you know? And then you'd have a little more control over your food, so you wouldn't be facing the frustrating hunger you're experiencing.
  • yea but then they throw it away... cause they aren't eating it. I'm finding meals I'm preparing excess amounts of disappearing before i can eat them and I KNOW they aren't eating them. I'm afraid if i made extra and set it aside they would throw it away thinking it's old food. As for that soup recipe, I want it. And I can't do Crystal Light. Aspartame is not my friend so I try to avoid it when i can.
  • I've been watching and responding to this thread for a couple days now and just wanted to put one last word of encouragement out there.

When one decides to get healthy - whether that be losing weight, being more active, changing eating habits, or a combination of the above - they have to be ready to do it for themselves. Nobody can MAKE them want to get healthy and no amount of pressure, advice, or good intentions from the outside will make them a success.

When you are ready to make positive changes, you will find a way to make your situation work for you. Starting your walks seems to be a terrific first go at it, and maybe that is all you can really do right now due to circumstances outside of your control.

There has been tons of good advice in this thread, but it seems like there is an answer / excuse as to why most of it won't work in your situation. When you are ready to make further changes, you will find there is a lot of wisdom in what folks said in this thread; You just need to step up and do it. Make your own food. Label it like you were in kindergarten if that's what it takes. Change your sleeping habits. Try the wii again. Yadda yadda - the responses in this thread say it all.

Ultimately what it comes down to is you and your willingness and more importantly READINESS to make changes. Nobody can do this for you but YOU.

Good luck and keep us posted!
