  • Quote: I have read that drinking diet sodas tricks the brain and when the sweet taste is registered, the brain tells the body to get ready to process the sweet 'food'. Your system then pumps out insulin to handle the sweet, which is not there. This can lead to insulin resistance, the main problem in Metabolic Syndrome.
Ditto on this. I have heard the same thing. My aunt was pre-daibetic and her Dr. told her not to drink diet sodas b/c it does exactly that. I would think that anything that messes with your insulin, probably isn't good for weight loss either.
  • I love diet sodas. I don't drink them often b/c it's an added expense but I do like to indulge in them from time to time and it's never had an impact on any weight loss for me.
  • I think diet drinks with artificial sweeteners do harm.
I drink very occasionally (once in years?) a coke, but not the diet type.
Scary, that if you want to avoid artificial sweeteners also in other foods and beverages, you hardly will find them without aspartame et al. in British supermarkets.
