OMG...I just remembered this. Last fall DH and I bought three new chairs. I was having trouble with my foot/ankle - so we went into the store with me in a wheelchair. The salesman thought I was dh's mother! I was really mad/insulted!

Well at least we are all in good company. I was 39 when I had my youngest son so I am OK with being mistaken for the grandma. After all I am old enough for it!

I was 42 when my son was born, so definitely old enough to easily be his grandmother. But I am absolutely NOT ok with the idea of being mistaken for that! lol!

I've been told since I was in high school that I look like I should be somebody's mother?. Always figured it was because of my size and the facts that I rarely smiled and the clothes I could find in my size looked "older."

What took the cake though was a picture I have in my office from a mini family reunion last year. One of our board members looked at the picture and asked me if the other people were my kids. HELLO - the other people are my brothers, all of whom are older than me by three years or more. Guess I still look like somebody's mother (even though I'm not). Actually I guess that would make me look like a grandmother since one of my brothers was holding his grandson.

I have a niece who's a grandma at 31. Wonder if they mistake her granddaughter for her daughter?

I am 40 and as long as I keep my hair colored regularly, people are SHOCKED when they find out I have a son who is almost 20. They see me with my 4 yr old and think I am 30ish. BUT, if I let my hair go too long between colorings, I am 100% grey and omg, people think I am way older. One nice thing, as I have gotten the weight off, so far I look younger.

(My husband, however, gets the Grandpa comments ALL the time!)

And wow, I totally forgot about this but when I was about 14 I took out the kids I was babysitting for some ice cream, who were around 5 and 8. The youngest one started to wander a little too close to the back while we were ordering, and the lady behind the counter snapped at him to go back to his mother! Me, barely in high school! I was pretty big back then, had to borrow a lot of my mom's clothes (yuck!), and my short hair wasn't very flattering on me, so I looked horribly matronly for my age. I also got mistaken for a teacher by one of the new students during freshman orientation. When I reached my mid 20's people who hadn't seen me in years often commented that I looked a lot younger than when I was in school . . . in fact I bet I'd still be told the same thing now in my mid 30's!

i never had it happen about me.. but one day i was with my mom and my grandma.. and a lady thought my gma was my mom and my mom was my sister.. im holding out for some good genes...

I'm sorry it bugged you but really - grandma or mom age is so variable these days! So many young girls are having babies (I'm talking high school age) that it really skews the chart! A 45-year-old women could easily have a son in college or a son in preschool!

I haven't been asked if I'm the grandma yet BUT at least a couple times people have asked my dad "who is that tall gal you're dating." YEEK!!! They mean me? Holy cow - dad is almost 30 years older than I am. My dad is quite the dashing figure and dresses nicely but, me??? Really?? Only thing good about those comments is it makes my dad feel younger!
