It's okay to sidestep every once in a while... And you've admitted that it wasn't something that normally happened. What's done is done, don't sweat it. But if I were you, I'd have some non-perishable healthy snacks on hand in case it ever happens again. (Plain granola bars, nuts, things like that.) And if you know you're going to be out late one day, take the time to cut up some carrots.
For me, fast food is a thing of the past with the exception of pizza, Chinese takeout and the chicken nugget combo meal off the McDonald's menu. I try to limit the amount of pizza and Chinese takeout we eat... Not because of my waistline, but because of my budget. That stuff is hella expensive and it adds up! I can usually afford pizza and Chinese takeout once a month a piece, but most of the time I don't even bother. I LOVE cooking and when I do it, I ALWAYS have at LEAST one vegetable with it. (Pasta hardly ever gets cooked these days unless it's buried under a ton of lean ground beef and spaghetti sauce!)
Just my $0.02 Good luck with staying on plan... I know I haven't!
