It depends on you- height, age, gender, activity level, etc...
You will need to experiment for a few weeks, and then you will know about you.
  • Quote: Wanderland, thanks for posting. I didn't know you could customize and many of the foods I eat aren't available; how do I find that function? Is there a way to log things online as well with the program?
Customize foods: Go to add a meal (the plus sign). Choose whether it is breakfast, lunch, etc. The next screen with have the option to Create New Food at the very bottom. I probably use this feature every other day.
  • Quote: Ok, so, I have a question... I was using the Loseit app but someone bought me the Livestrong Calorie Tracker app because they knew I tracked on LS and it is very cool and it syncs with the website, etc. However, I love that the Loseit app allows me to password protect it on my touch.. does anyone know if you can password protect the LS calorie tracker app? So far, I haven't figured out a way.. if I can't figure it out I might switch back to the loseit app.

How about just PW protecting your entire iTouch using the passcode lock?
  • Quote: ok...i got Lose It on my ipod yesterday, and it says I should only be eating 1064 calories to get to 110 by April 12, 2010. Aren't I supposed to be eating more than this?!

It says that because it's basically just a math calculation. It takes your estimated base calorie burn and then subtracts whatever your goal calorie loss is (how many pounds per week). Based on the numbers in your profile (128#, 5'1") - your base calorie burn is only 1490 (loseit number is likely different but close). If your burn 1490 and want to lose a pound a week, that that would mean you only get 990 calories to eat.

Yes, it's less than you should eat, but when you work out, you burn more calories, and therefore get to eat more calories to meet that goal. Does that make sense? Also, those numbers were based on a sedentary person, if you're more active, you burn more. Loseit only uses a basic, simple calculator to estimate your calorie burn/goal. You can go in and set your calorie goal to any number you chose by adjusting the calorie goal manually. In fact, I set my program goal to "maintain" and then adjust my calorie budget using the add/subtract function because I calculate my calorie expenditure elsewhere.

    HTH and good luck
  • Thanks, Wanderland! I love this app!!!
  • Thanks Carolyn, that does make more sense now. =)
  • I used to use Lose It, but now I use Tap & Track. It's not free, but doesn't require WiFi, it has a larger list of foods and restaurants (I found myself having to add foods constantly on Lose It), and it's a little more comprehensive with tracking (graphs, custom reports, etc.).
  • i just downloaded intelli-Diet for the iphone. it doesn't need wifi and i really like it so far. i'm new to the board. wish me luck!!
