Essie - you are going to love the movie "Its a wonderful life". I just saw it the other day on t.v.- they play it a few times during Christmas. It was the first time my daughter saw it and she loved it. You will need a box of tissues, for sure. And yes, that's exactly what grandma's are for - spoiling and then sending them back to mom and dad, LOL - right Jen?

Jen - I think its a good idea to read Brandon the Grinch rather than taking him to see it, he's only 2 or 3 right? Joseph is 3 1/2 and he really didn't like it. Or what you could do is rent it when it comes out, then if he doesn't like it, you can turn it off and you've only spent like $2-3. It cost me $13 plus candy, and just the waiting in line was horrible -- not a fun experience for sure, LOL. Your shopping day with your husband sounds great. My husband and I went to the city on Friday to get tickets for our granddaughter, Lianne, to see River Dance. She was in an irish step dancing class and loved it so we promised to take her. Once we got the tickets, we spent the day in the city seeing all the sights and we went to the movies and had dinner. It was fun, but very crowded this time of year with many out-of-towners. We like to do that once in awhile, you know after many years of marriage you've got to keep those embers burning, LOL! Oh, the food is typical Puerto Rican and delicious.

Terri - how are you hon? It's gonna be rough for you and the family for awhile, I know, but you'll get through it with lots of wonderful memories. I'm thinking of you.

Jen, PR food. It's definitely not something you want to have too often while trying to lose weight. I have no idea how to count points when it comes to certain things. I only have it twice a year. My sister loves to cook spanish food. For me it's too much work, especially the pasteles. I am Puerto Rican/Cuban so I can't escape it when visiting family around the holidays. I do love it I think your special day with your husband Joe is so nice. Sounds like fun.

Myra, hope things get better for you real soon. You'll know when you're ready to get back OP. Hang in there.

Dianne, I can imagine how crowded the city was. I never go to the city. I was born & raised there but not too crazy about it. I am a country girl now. I love the quiet life.

Your kind words mean so much. I have had childhood pets die after I left home and I was sad but it was not like this. That baby was all mine. He LOVED me. He was always at the the top of the stairs waiting for me when we got home and seeing that place empty for the first time today was hard. I got on the petloss site and wrote a tribute to him. It was theraputic. They were supposed to put a picture but it didn't get on there.

I saw the Grinch on Thanksgiving night. Definately not for little ones. My 7 yr. old was about the youngest I would take. We loved it but it can be scary.

Dianne, my grandson, Brandon, just turned 5. His little brother, Matthew, is 5 months. What city did you visit when you were buying your Riverdance tickets? My cousin's daughters both take Irish step dancing, as do 2 of my great nieces. It's so cool to go to St. Pat's parties, and their dance company is entertaining. Joe and I aren't going into the city (Chicago) to shop tomorrow, but, rather are heading out to the boonies to go to a huge outlet mall, then back into our burbs. Still fun, only cheaper!

Essie, doesn't it seem that any food we really really like is too high in points? LOL
A friend of my cousin is Puerto Rican; years ago he made plantanos (spelling?)...a stuffed, baked plaintain? They were very good.

We finally got the tree up, the house is done, and it looks so pretty. I rained all day today, so didn't get all the outside lights done...I want to border the driveway fence with white lights.

We went to see Riverdance last year and then went out to a bar where there is a great singer on Thurs. nights and 5 of the Riverdance singers and dancers came in. It was so cool. They sang and danced for us a little. The production was excellent. We really enjoyed ourselves.

Jen - The "city" I was referring to was NYC--- I guess I think that's the only "city" in the world, LOL. Sorry about thinking Brandon was only 2-3 years old, I got mixed up -- it must be aging (I have a birthday coming up). I'm excited about seeing Riverdance, after all that's 1/2 of my heritage since I'm half Irish and half Puerto Rican. I'm more excited about seeing it with our Granddaughter, since we told her, she's been delirious with joy!

Terri - I read your tribute to Bucky and, as I've mentioned before, I don't have any pets (except Willie)and never really developed a love of animals, but your tribute really brought tears to my eyes, it was so beautiful.
I hope you are doing a little better.

Essie - I agree with you about the city -- I especially don't like to go into the city around this time of year, but it does look really pretty with the tree in Rockefeller Center and all the stores decorated so beautiful. So once in awhile, we venture in.

Thank you so much for your kindness. I loved him so much and I feel a deep loss and I know it will get better. Getting his ornaments out didn't help. Brought back 16 wonderful yrs. of memories. He was such an anamated dog, so much personality.

Morning all!

What a great day we had yesterday....shopped till we dropped! It was good to spend the day together; Joe works lots of hours, and needed to relax (even tho his idea of relaxing doesn't include a mall ). I'm so very thankful that we've been married so long and still like each other and enjoy each other's company.

Essie, December is mammo. month for me. Right after you mentioned having yours, I made my appt. I hope everyone reading this is up to date with theirs?

Dianne, you mentioned you have an up-coming birthday....when is it?

I love your movie quotes at the end of your messages. Too cute! Kids are very excited. I have a few things still to get. We have an early Christmas since we travel to Ohio every yr. Santa travels to people's homes early for the ones who travel- Didn't you know that? Our Christmas (Dec. 15) feels so much like Christmas I forget everything is still open on the outside.
We've been doing that since 1986. The kids love it because it is 2 Christmases. They get enough stuff at their Grandmas' houses that they don't even need ours. Even though we give the coolest gifts. When family asks what the kids want I save the best for us to give. LOL

Looks like the 4 of us have been really lucky in the hubby department -- My husband and I are together going on 22 years and still enjoy being together. Of course, we sometimes enjoy NOT being together too, LOL!

Jen - sounds like you got lots of shopping done, that's great. My birthday is Monday, December 4th. I'm lucky its early december, so I don't get gypped because of Christmas, LOL.

Essie - I too have a mammo coming up. I get all my exams, etc. done the week between Christmas and New Years since my university is closed during that time (my favorite time of the year!). I hope yours went well. I certainly don't look forward to mine. They need to make a better way to do that test - its awful! Breasts are just not meant to go in the directions the technician wants to place them in, LOL. But, it has to be done.

Terri -- 2 Christmases - wow, your kids are really lucky. We have 3 kings Day (Essie - you know what I mean) where we also give small gifts to the kids. My husband always put a shoebox filled with hay (usually from the pet store) symbolizing the coming of the 3 kings with gifts for baby Jesus and the hay is for the horses. My kids always loved that when they were small.

What happened to our other buddies??? Myra, Mary, Satin -- maybe all too busy getting ready for Christmas. Well, gotta go. Talk to you all later. Have a great day.

That is really great that we all have good, supportive men in our lives. Mine has always been great. Spoils me to no end. LOL
I love the hay tradition. I think tradition is so important.
Speaking of birthdays. My nephew's sister's is Nov. 20, my mom's Nov. 25, Nephew's Dec. 1 (big 18-OMG), My sister's Dec. 11, my grandma's was Dec.17 (until last year) and,husband's Dec. 19 and niece Dec. 31. Whew! An expensive 1.5 months. but I make sure to give like any other time of year. Always felt sorry for the Christmas b-days.
I had an uncle who was born on Christmas Day.
Now that would be overwhelming but could be made into something special.

Your kids must love having two Christmases. I think it's great that you travel home for the holiday. You're the one they make all the commercials about.."Home for the holidays" ! All 5 of my brothers and sisters have stayed in the Chicagoland area, so there's no travelling involved for a get-together.
