I have lots of smaller sized clothes in my closet (and in my parent's closets since I live in a NYC apt and am short on closet space!) I sometimes feel overwhelmed by all the clothes - there is so much but so little actually fits. Although I have smaller sized pieces that I just couldn't part with I sometimes wonder if the stuff will look good even it does eventually fit. Sometimes you think that as long as you are small enough to wear it, that's all the matters but it still may not flatter you when you are smaller! Frustrating . . . but I do look forward to "shopping" my closet as the sizes go down!

I bought "smaller" clothes too. When I reached goal I was ecstatic to fit into some of my finds. Some were actually too large. Can't win them all!

I am one of those people who do not buy smaller clothes ahead of time. I want to know that clothes fit me before I spend money on them. Although my boobs are not huge they are definitely bigger (even though I am a C cup now) than most designers plan for and often shirts/jackets don't fit me in the chest while loose at the waist/hips.
The only exception I made a few times was that I purchased jeans that I "almost" fit into. However, those were not expensive purchases - I typically buy jeans at Winners so the average price is $25 and I like jeans to fit me well so that pretty much my only concession. I went through a number of pairs but I don't regret the money spent on them. I typically have, at any given time, only one pair of jeans that fits me well.

Actually I should add that I made an exception when I made it size 4 and I coughed up $80 for Gap jeans - they are also 34" in inseam so I was super happy.

I went to NYC recently and I didn't want to buy just clothes that I plan to be too big for me... so I did by some smaller sizes of some expensive brands so I can treat myself when I lose the weight to fit into them. I bought 1 size 10 dress (I tried it on in the store at a size 12, and even at that size it was just a little bit tight) and I bought a large shirt that I tried on in the store at XL.

Hope it fits soon so I can start wearing them and look amazing! Although I want to get smaller than those sizes... but its a good start

I am trying not to buy ANYTHING, too small or fits now. I have a closet full of work clothes that will probably get me through the summer. I did make a big exception this week because the coat I bought in 3X this winter is on sale for $39.99. I love that coat and was really sad about not getting to wear it again. I ordered the same color in Petite Medium and it arrived this week. When I tried it on the front barely cleared my arm pits . Pretty funny actually but I think I will try it on every month for motivation. I went back to the site (Lands End) and found another one on sale for the same price but it is lighter weight. I broke down and ordered that one too. It is pink. It will be so great to wear a pink coat and not worry about getting stared at. Worst case scenario (and it's not going to happen) I will have spent $100 on two nice charitable donations.

FYI, if you are willing to take the chance on something too small, there are some really great deals to be had on winter coats right now!

I just cleaned out my closet last weekend. I feel like a weight has been lifted off of me. Because I know that everything in my closet now fits and some of it is getting loose--ok alot of pieces are getting loose. Which is good. I did buy a new pair of jeans and a pair of black dress pants and a cute coral 3/4 sleeve spring jacket last week. But I feel like I'm shopped out right now.

Before I cleaned out my closet I was overwhelmed! I couldn't find anything to wear and was really frustrated because I was starting to think that I was going to have to replace everything--a daunting and expensive task. But when I cleaned my closet I "found" a few pieces that fit again and a few pieces that I hadn't been able to find. Shopping for free.

Now, spring/summer is going to be tricky. Because I only have 1-2 pairs of capris that fit and that is what I wear to work most days. I think I'm going to have to get used to the idea of shopping more often and buying just a few pieces at a time. I've never had much luck buying things that are too small because they don't fit right when I do get into them.

This is one thing I'm definitely worried about. I'm a college student with not much money to spare on new clothes. But I'm going to have to figure out something, because I WILL lose this weight. Failure is not an option.

I have to say that I too am guilty of having clothes that are a HUGE range in sizes...I still have size 7 jeans in storage from probably 11 years ago. I have a bunch of still fashionable clothes with the tags on from when I bought them and found out I was pregnant with my 1st. So again, I have size 10's put away too and so on. I refuse to give some of them up as a reminder of how small I was and use as an inspiration that is possible to be there again.

Meg-as you get smaller, there are a lot of cheap stores to shop for that are trendy. I don't know where you go to school, but there is always stores like H&M that you can get some pieces at to mix and match as you get smaller

hotcubanmama: I live in Hawaii. >_> Everything's expensive here. XD But it's only for college, after that I'll be outta here. It really isn't paradise, despite what everyone thinks. Not bad for exercising though, since you can even do running outside in the winter, so you have NO excuse to slack off. I know there's one thrift shop around here though. I can check it out. I don't know if they'll have anything tall enough for me, seeing as I'm 5'10". Oh well, maybe I can find man jeans there and wear those for a few months.
Blackie: Good luck on fitting into your pink coat! I have a skirt I ordered that doesn't fit me either... and that's an elastic waistband! I figured it'd fit... but I guess it's a SMALL elastic waistband. I hope I can one day fit into it.

I guess we all have a story. I bought some jeans before my youngest was born. They fit at the time but have not fit since. They are hanging there as a reminder and I think in about 10 pounds they will fit and hopefully by this fall when it is jean season again they will be too big.

I went shoping this weekend. had to have a pair of shorts. I decided to buy the ones that were a little snug in the booty(my problem area). i am glad I got the smaller size because I think in 2 weeks they will be good.

I have a trick! Control top hose.

I'm not made of money either so I'm not buying new clothes before I lose what I've regained. Control top hose didn't work 10 pounds ago but it is today. This skirt is fine for church. In another 10 or 15 lbs I'll be able to wear it without. Then I don't need to buy an interim skirt.

I did this when I lost the first time too. I'd go shopping in CT hose. Things would fit then and later when I was a bit smaller they'd be fine without the hose.

I've used a seamstress for really good clothing that I got excellent deals on ($17 suit, uniform pants). It didn't make financial sense to fix anything I bought at a thrift store. I also tried to take in a pair of pants myself ... uh, no. It was much trickier that I thought.

"Shopping my closet"- I laughed when I read that and totally relate. Depending on my success is what decides if I like buying smaller close or not.
