  • How exciting! Congrats!! You sure are right about women will get their hair done anywhere. I would kill for a hairdresser. I would go ANYWHERE!

And I really think you should do the straight razor shave/ hot towel thing. My DH talks about that constantly. He had a shave like that once at a barber shop I think about 18 years ago. He STILL says it's the best shave he's ever had.

    Good luck on Monday!

    Kerri
  • That is so exciting!!

Congratulations and best of luck to you!!!!
  • Having your own business is so rewarding! I hope you do well!!! I started my own business as a web & graphic designer full time in October of 2006, and it's been rocky but I hope the $$ gets better. I'm still making more than I would have working at wal-mart, so I don't have designs on quitting!

BUT it is so awesome that you're opening a barber shop! It sounds like you have the perfect location and whatever you need to really be successful! Sometimes I wish I had a more social business where I saw my customers day in and day out, but then there are other days where I enjoy my solitude :P

Well, in my twenties, I had a bit of overkill with all the being around the people thing and became a bit of an introvert. But, I found that being a stay at home mom has given the inner extorvert to come back out and my gift of gab has re-emerged. When I went to work at MasterCuts, I LOVED the one to one contact with my customers, talking and joking and getting to know people. My husband went into a local drug store to fix their photo kiosk (what he does for a living) and they all swarmed him because I had quit MasterCuts and they didn't know where I went. He didn't know I had cut about 75% of their hair. It was funny...but they all said they'll be coming to get their hair cut by me!

Today my parents were painting and putting up the finishing touches while I went to the beauty supply to get my supplies and two guys came in looking for haircuts. I am SO going to kick butt there, I can just feel it.

And, I'm all painted, scraped, sanded and put together (the shop, that is) and ready to go! The sign guy came in and put up the sign, my barber pole is spinning and lit up, the cupboards are hung and filled with shampoos and towels and gels and things, cape hanging over the chair, apron hanging in the bathroom. I"m ready to roll come Monday morning!! WOOHOO
  • What do you mean you are all set? What about the Magazines? You have to have good magazines to survive dear....do you have a TV set up to watch?
  • OHHH HOW SUPER EXCITING!!!!!

GOOD LUCK ON YOUR FIRST DAY! (and everyday thereafter also!)
  • Techwife
    God bless your new business!
  • Okay...end of day two and I went to the bank to deposit over a hundred dollars! Rent is already 1/4 paid and its only Wednesday!!

Today I had a guy come in that came in yesterday to tell me that his haircut is the best he's had in years. Everyone always cuts it too short. And I had a guy give me a $5 tip because I trimmed his mustache, eyebrows and those pesky little ear hairs as part of the cost of the haircut. And I got to do a cool haircolor that came out wicked awesome. I've had a bunch of people come in just to see the place and say it looks nice. I'm having a ball!!

Thanks for all the prayers and keep 'em coming! They're working!!
  • Never cut it too short TECH you want them back soon!

Here's hoping you will be franchising soon!
