What do you feed your children?

  • I feed my 20 mo. old what I eat. That means whole grains, lean meats, and plenty of fruits and vegetables WITH ocassional treats. The only difference in our diets is that I drink skim milk, water and tea. I WILL ocassionally have a diet soda. I've never completely broken the habit, but I have one maybe once every week or two. However, he drinks only juice, whole milk and water. I also eat light yogurts while he gets regular kids yogurt without the added HFCS. They put that crap in everything. ::sigh::

And just what, pray tell, are "Scubas"?

    well, LOL
    I meant he doesn't eat a totally junky diet..but
I am not one of those grapefruit juice and green pepper slices for a snack moms either and I don't have a panic attack if someone tries to offer him a piece of chocolate.

Scubas, are little cheddar shapes like fish and lobster..they are made by ritz and sort of like goldfish crackers except way better. They aren't the healthiest food, but they are baked, and no trans fats.
  • Ah, I see

    Scubas sound good!

That is funny you mentioned those foods specifically, because she has a grapefruit and red pepper slices as part of her lunch on a regular basis (she likes them!)...but, in addition to those things, I like to also give her the best chocolate I can (thus she knows quality) and she can enjoy 1 or two small pieces instead of mindlessly wolfing down a large amount of the cheap stuff.

I always say that balance is key
  • omg..well I'm going to be in your hitlist then for making fun of the combo..LOL
I just know my ds wouldn't eat them..and in another board I go to (non weight loss related) the mom once beefed that she was in charge of snack one day at preschool and brought grapefruit juice and green pepper slices for the entire class. Of course no one ate it (except her kid) and the other moms complained that their kid was starving and she should have brought something more "appropraite" or kid-friendly i guess.. she was irate..thats why that combo kind of stuck out at me

In my experience, most preschoolers don't have the well-developed palate necessary to appreciate bitter and pungent foods, so I am with you on this one!

Honestly, I would have made and brought something like whole grain banana mini muffins and almond milk or fruit cups for preschoolers, myself! Actually, that is pretty much what I make for my daughter's eighth grade class too, something sweet and still nutritious or something like hummus, baked pita chips and carrots. The kids LOVE it when I have snack duty
  • well the boys are 23 and nearly 21 now so i don't feed them much... they feed themselves....

but when they were babies they ate at moms till well the younger one was only 4 months when he started solids but the baby ate at moms exclusively till he was nearly 10 months old (and he was FAT he weighed 25 pounds at 5 months totally breastfed)...

    their solids were:
    cottage cheese
    tofu
    peas
    cheerios
    bananas

    and then we branched out....
