When you have insulin resistance, you can have a perfectly normal blood sugar. This is my case, blood sugar consistently below 100 with insulin level of 40, which is 10 times too high according to my specialist. Was put on Glucophage to help with this. Don't worry about the weight coming off belly area last, mine did the same thing. Your belly will gradually go down. My belly was my biggest problem area, but it is where I have had the hardest time losing weight. Congratulations on the 8 lb. loss, that's fantastic.

You are saying that doctors can test for "insulin resistance?" How do they determine that? I'd love to know.

They draw an insulin level as well as your blood sugar. mine was drawn about a year ago and will be redrawn in June. I never knew I was producing too much insulin, just knew that I often felt like passing out about 30 min's after eating. I also have poly-cystic ovarian syndrome which goes hand in hand with insulin resistance. There is a lot of talk about this in the Atkins New diet revolution book.

I haveunsulin resistence too, and I have the classic big tummy (made smaller by a tummy tuck last year though ). I was surprised to find I had IR and it was only diagnosed with a Dr that knew what he was looking for (I was in the process of being Dx with Pcos too). Classic signs of IR are big belly, skin tags, dark skin patches, brain fog amoungst many others. I was prescribed metformin too and have lost weight so its worth having your fasting blood glucose tested. Its the ratio between insulin and glucose that indicates IR, if theres a lot of insulin but glucose is OK it indicates a problem.
