Tasha, Brandnewme, Kaylee ~ thanks! ~ This whole thing reminds me of the rule at my child's school...If you are not inviting the entire class to a party, you are not allowed to hand out invitations at school. It's simply rude to exclude people...You'd think adults would already have the manner's they teach 10 year olds.

Brandnewme ~ Wish I could help!

Kaylee ~ Wish I was there! Even old ladies like me know how to party! I'd love to try those dreadfalls on my head!

Tasha ~ Have you looked at Fitday? Seems that you can just stick in the food you eat and they calculate the calories for you. I've just browsed...but that might work better for you than WW.

Well, ladies, the lab is about to close, so I'm going to head on home, and get a workout in, and read. Got some books since computer's broke...

I'll make sure and check in tomorrow if I get a chance to come up to the lab.

My concert's in 16 days, and I'm ecstatic.

Default my first post

This is my first post. I have been reading your posts for the past few days. All of you sound really nice. I have been dieting for the past 4 months and I have actually gained 3 pounds. I don't know how that happened.
My husband and I have just joined TOPS. And that's going well. I am just so sick and tired of having this weight, I am also over 300 pounds. Its so much easier for my husband to lose weight then I do. But I will keep trying, so long as I dont gain its a good day for me.

Thanks so much for having this web site.

Welcome! I wish you all the luck in the world. Being overweight is not an easy demon to face.

What is TOPS like?

LChin - my Curves has a scale but I don't use it because of the capacity, I've thought about just buying a new scale

Nancy - this scale plugs into the wall so its not a battery problem, its a me problem, lol, but thanks for your encouragment

Kayley - Congrats on your progress, you are doing amazing

ThinThinker - thanks for the encouragment, I'm staying focused, I walked past the pretzel counter at the mall tonight, it was difficult but I didn't even inhale I didn't need the temptation

Lilion - thanks for the encouragment! I'm sorry you work with such a bunch of thoughtless and rude people. I worked in an office full of rude people before, I was so happy when I quit. I hope things change or you are able to change jobs or transfer to another department.

Brandnewme - thanks for the encouragment. I hope your mouth is feeling better soon.

Tashabelle - I've found South Beach works best for me

I just want to thank everyone for the support and encouragment and the PM's, it really means a lot. I've decided to keep weighing sideways for now and reassess at the weekend when my head is clearer. The funny thing is, when my hubby (who is normal weight) gets on the scale either way, it weighs him the same, but I guess when it gets to the higher weight, it gets confused I'm really glad you are all so supportive

I've made arrangements to meet a coworker at 8am to go walking, depending on how much walking she is up for, I might to to Curves after depending on how I feel. We have decided that on days we don't have early appointments, we are going to go walk.

Christineu--You are doing great! Congrats on all your accomplishments.

Maria Lucia--I'm sorry, I thought Lucia was your last name, not part of your 1st name! Shame on me! Dont be discouraged by other people's inability to keep thier weight off. You also have to remember that when someone loses like 20 lbs for a contest or TV show, when its over they tend to quit. This is a lifestyle change for you and you have a lot more to lose than 20 lbs. After all that hard work I know you will be more apt to maintain it because you know what a bear it is to get it off in the first place. People who yo-yo between 20 lbs are one thing, but not as many people lose like over 100 lbs and then gain it all back.

Countess--I'm so sorry about the scale thing! That REALLY sucks! Its like 2 steps forward 2 steps back. I agree w/LChin, you might have to just take your lumps and when you get under 350 you can weigh at your Dr ofc. I decided to do that w/the WW scale vs the Curves scale. The Curves scale weighs me exactly 2 lbs more than the WW scale and I was just deducting 2 lbs off the Curves scale but then decided it would be easier to just go by the Curves scale period. So I raised my starting weight by 2 lbs and went from there. Of course I'm only talking about 2 lbs here so it wasnt as much of a heartbreak. I'm so sorry for you!

Dolphingirl--Yeah! GOOD WORK! WOOOOHOOOO!!!

Lillion--I am so sorry about the crappy people at your work. That totally sucks. I hate it when that happens to me. I work w/a lot of people that are the same age as I am and sometimes it bothers me if a bunch of them are going out and I dont get invited. Of course, most of the people I work w/are mutants from the planet Zolton (I'm not trying to be mean--they are seriously all really weird) so it doesnt bother me TOO much. But a co-workers 40th bday party and someone's baby shower? That is just crappy, especially if you work in a smaller office setting.

Kayley--What concert are you going to?

As for me, I am a little disgusted w/the recipe I made for dinner tonight. I got if off 3FC and it said a serving was 9 pts. Fine, I usually have enough pts leftover for dinner. I made it and it make like two servings. Fine, its just me. But the recipe says it is FOUR servings. 1 serving is like 3/4 cup, not very much at all! I guess that is fine if you have a salad w/it, but NINE points for 3/4 cup? Grrrrrr ! I decided to put it in tupperware and had a bagel, cream cheese, and salad w/dressing for 8 points instead . But geez!

My sister is making dinner for me tomorrow night and then she and I are going to Curves together. I have a free pass for her to join me and her man's gonna watch the kidlets. She's making this Black Bean and Tortilla Bake that is only 4 pts. I am excited! My sister always gets her recipes off 3FC but she always picks better ones that I do! I guess its because I hate the thought of coming home and cooking something that takes more than about 20 min but she is willing to take the prep and cook time. I am just so tired in the evenings after my sucky job, tho.

I decided I have to start working overtime at work if only in small increments. I put in for 2 1/2 hrs this week and am going to try to work that much every week. That will be another 5 hrs at time and 1/2 on my paycheck at least. The last 2 weeks I've had to borrow money from my boyfriend (aka sugar daddy--ha! ) to avoid being completely broke. He never wants me to pay him back but I want to and need this overtime to afford to. We arent married and I dont want to act like it. It's not that I think it will cause problems w/money involved because it never has before (there have been times when I couldnt pay him back), but I dont want to get into that, ya know? He doesnt have much money either and I dont want our finances co-mingling like that.

Hi ladies, Stephanie here. I joined last week but just havent posted. Things were a bit hectic last week and I found myself not focused. my husband's brother in Mobile was hospitalized for a seroius bout with his ulcers,,,nearly life threatening. So me hubby and kids had to make a quick trip to Bama from Missouri. I literally took on alot of stress from that trip. We were down there for eleven days with him.Now that I'm back home and settled I can gear up and get moving. I did stick to my water intake of a gallon a day. And got a lot of walking done at the hospital there. I took the steps instead of the elevators.I desperately needed a new pair of tennis so I purchased a new pair.I did splurge on alot of that fresh seafood in Alabama as well as gobbled up some food at the Mardi Gras. I havent weighed yet but will do so tomorrow. Kind of scared to step on that boy. Maybe it will even itself out since I did drink my water and exercise. Maybe its just me thinkin the worse. I'll let you guys know. Oh yeah, I'm still lookin for buddies to motivate and be motivated. I do hit slumps where I'll eat something and just blow it for weeks. I need to stop that behavior as it just ruins my self esteem. Lookin to chat with you all. Steph

Ammi – Since I am on my gadget kick, I have been thinking about getting one of those hand held body fat analyzers. That way you can not only see the scale number, but if there is no change you can find out if there has been a change in your body composition. They run about $30 or so, and I am thinking they might be worth it for those times when the scale isn’t moving but you can feel yourself making progress. Way to go on keeping going with the exercise even though you didn’t feel like it. That is great!

Countess – I don’t know what your scale is like, so this might be a stupid suggestion, but who knows. You said you stand on the base and the display is on the wall. Could you try putting some type of larger surface on the floor – such as putting a board down on top of the scale and adjusting for that added weight? If your weight is distributed more evenly it might be more accurate. Don’t know – just a thought.

Vicki – Way to go on being over half way to your goal!!! I think that deserves some progress pictures!

Kayley
– Way to go cleaning out your room and finding that 2x shirt. Very cool.

Lilion – I can’t believe the people at your work are so insensitive and rude! I don’t know what to say, except next time don’t eat any of their snacks on snack day. Boycott!

Brandnewme – Dental surgery is no fun. Sorry to hear your family is being troublesome too. Hope you can find some quiet time to yourself.

Tashabella – I read somewhere (not sure where – I should remember my references!) that most people who lose weight and keep it off do so by taking a plan and modifying it to fit their individual needs. Hope you find the right combination for you.

Sherry, Steph and Andrea to all of you!

Steph – I am sorry to hear about your brother in law – that is horrible. Regarding “I do hit slumps where I'll eat something and just blow it for weeks.” It is definitely time to turn off the black and white thinking. I think so many of us get caught up in this all or nothing mentality of being “good” and “bad”. If we eat something we feel that we shouldn’t, then we beat ourselves up and get caught up in an ugly cycle. Allow yourself to not be perfect and to make mistakes. If you eat something, you eat it. No big deal. Just get right back on plan next meal. You can do it!!

Amy – Sorry to hear you are having money troubles and need to work more hours at a job you don’t like. Money doesn’t buy happiness, but not having it can sure make things miserable.

I used my new heart rate monitor and it was pretty cool. You strap on this band around your chest under your breasts and that is what takes your heartbeat. If you do buy one, make sure to check the size of the band. Then the band either transmits to a watch or it can transmit directly to the exercise equipment. It worked, but on the elliptical I couldn’t figure out how to get the readout to stay on heart rate instead of level. I’m sure I’ll figure it out next time. I was albe to stay at 2.5 the whole time tonight and I was right under 140 bpm. My stamina is definitely increasing!

I weigh in tomorrow and I am hoping for something, even if it is just a pound. We’ll see. I am still having some water retention issues, although it is getting a bit better.

Just basically saying hi. I skimmed thru posts but don't have time to really reply. Kayley I can't wait to see the pics of you in the dreads. Welcome to all the newcomers.

I got my bellydance DVD's today and went thru one almost twice. 56 mins and wow am I feeling it, I dread tomorrow LOL. But it's fun and that's important. And I like the yoga-esque factor of it. Healing and meditative I guess you could call it. Very grounding. But I think I was expecting a cardio workout, and this was more muscle work, so, not a bad thing, just not what I was expecting. Granted I've only been through one of the three DVD's so....

Alright I have to get to bed. I hope everyone has a great day tomorrow.
