I have good luck with the Natrol Purified fish oil. I take them with a meal and rarely have troubles.

They should flavor them with cheesecake, or chocolate, so if you DO burp, you won't mind I bet everyone would take fish oil then!

I take the Flax seed pills from GNC. They help with keeping me regular as well as skin. After my sister had a stroke the doctor recommended that she take fish oil.

Suzanne, yeah! I like your thinking!

Another bit o' info I forgot to mention, the doctor I talked with said fish oil is better "utilized" by the body than flax seed oil... so those of you who take flax (I have in the past myself) may want to check that out. But if it's working for you, have at it!

I have been taking fish oil for a few months now and never had the fish taste when I burped?!?! Hmmm...I guess that's good. My skin does look and feel alot softer since taking them.

in response to the 'fish burps'...

I was having the same problem until I mentioned it to my friend. She asked me if I was still drinking coffee in the morning after taking the fish oil capsule... which I was. She suggested drinking a big full glass of COLD water with it. Come to find out her suggestion really worked. Come to find out that my hot morning coffee was dissolving the capsule too fast... thus the fish burps.

Good idea, obe! I never thought about that. I'll bet most people take them right before or after meals, which are usually hot.

I take the Super Omega Complex from Wal-mart. They are about 6 bucks for a bottle of 60. I take one in the morning and one at night. Since I started taking them religiously I have noticed nice skin and nails, and really shiny hair. I have IBS, and I think that the pills really help with it too. If I miss them for a few days, I really notice a difference.

YES! They are great for lowering your cholestrol, among other things. I have read they are great for your joints, your heart, etc. I can say it work for lowering cholestrol, I was in the high 200's and went down to 190 in one month by taking fish oil pills, diet/exercise. My dr was impressed!

Yes if you take them on an empty stomach, you WILL burp fish. But if you take them with your meals, most the time it's fine.

I get mine at Costco.

I take Ultra Pure Fish Oil made by Vital Nutrients. I get them through a site jonnybowden.com. He is a nutritionist/trainer (can't remember if that's his exact title) I saw on Oprah a few yrs ago. He was discussing a new book he had out Living The Low Carb Life. I did Atkins back then, but fell off the wagon so to speak. Anyhow, his book was great. He discussed so much more than the 10 most popular low carb diets. He went over nutrition/health/supplements, etc. He also rated the different diets. All in all, it is a great book for anyone-low carbing or not. I started taking the fish oil capsules a few months ago b/c of the antinflammitory properties just to see if it helps with my shoulder/neck/back problems. I have to say, I have noticed a big improvement-with less pain. I am also exercising a lot since Jan. after being sedentary for quite some time, so that may explain the lessening of pain. All I know is I feel 200% better. And the great thing is these fish oil capsules-if I do burp-it tastes like lemon-and lemon only. I do like fish w/lemon lol but not in my supplements;}} The ones I get cost quite a bit ($35.80 last time I ordered). I take 3 per day. Bottom line is I think I'm worth it. I am going to be having my high cholesterol checked soon. It was a total of 247 last time-yikes! Dr put me on Lipitor, but had a lot of muscle pain, so am off it now and hoping the WW plan I'm on since Jan., the exercise and the fish oil has brought it down. I'll keep you posted when I get the results. It will be interesting to see if it helps.

WOW, I just found this site and have to say it is really great.

Fish oil is something I have researched quite a bit in the past because my dad's cholesterol was high and his doctor told him to start taking fish oil.

These were the things he mentioned to look for in a fish oil that I had written down.

Vitamin E
It is a fat soluble antioxidant that helps keep the omega-3 oils from spoiling.

Purity (high EPA/DHA to total fat ratio
This one was harder to figure out. Basically while Omega-3 fatty acids are great for health in general, the specific Omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA (they are a certain type of Omega-3) are the ones that have been studied most in-depth to be effective.

So when you buy a fish oil in capsule form you want to look at how much Omega-3 you get per serving (mine for example gives 2,000mg or 2 grams of Omega-3 per 2 capsules) then you want to look and see how much EPA and DHA you get IN that 2,000mg. Mine says (providing 760mg of EPA and 440mg of DHA) below the 2,000mg of Omega-3

Many on the market that are very cheap can be cheap because they only have 100mg or 200mg of EPA and DHA per 2,000mg of Omega-3.

I guess it is hard (and expensive) to "purify" the EPA and DHA out.

I personally use the Cooper Complete brand which was the one the doctor recommended and buy it online

Hope that helps it was about 6 months ago i did the research on the topic and talked to the doctor and I have loved it as many on this board seem to have as well.
