My best LB bra story was that one night, after a 7-10pm class, I was getting into my car and heard a strange pop...didn't think much of it at the time. The bra was off shortly into my 1 1/2 hour comute, as it usually was (I got really good at taking bras off while driving during grad school ). A few days later, I get dress and glance down to realize one boob is much lower then the other...yep, that 'pop' I heard had been the underwire snapping. I was pissed, but it sure made me appreciate what underwires can do!

As for me- it seems like I have so many bras in different sizes. I lost a lot weight very quickly a few years ago, due to a medical problem. Now I've regained it (plus some) and am definantly not as well toned as I once was, so I have before bras, several sizes of weight loss bras, and now after bras. I got lucky this summer and found lots of really nice bras in larger sizes (44-46DD) at BigLots for $5 each. I got Playtex, 18 Hour..even a cute black push up Delta Burke bra. They had panties from Catherines for $1 a pair too...stocked up on them too.

Oooh. Struck a cord. I just spent hours bra shopping (in Manitoba, even less options than some areas) and was sooo frustrated. I ended up with one from Addition Elle. Everyone is right - smaller band and larger cup seem the answer (42 DDD !!!!). My fave bras were a really comfy pregnancy/nursing bra (Bravado in case anyone ever needs). Wore one for 2 years but the little squirt barely nurses now and they were all stretched and too big. I've looked online, but was nervous to buy. Interesting thought about the push up. I've always had trouble with fit, even in my slimmer days.

I'm glad you found a bra that you are happy with. I used to have a lot of trouble as well. I finally gave up on department stores all together. We have a specialty shop here that I have to imagine exists in most areas. They specialize in fitting women who have had mastectomies. So, they are very experienced in fitting "odd" shapes/sizes. They also carry specialty garments for wearing under bridal gowns, formals, etc. so they carry a wide range of styles.

The first time I went in a little old lady (think great-grandmother here) went in the dressing room with me and looked at me in my current bra and without even taking measurements left and came back with about 5 different bras for me to try. They were all different sizes and each fit perfectly. She knew the variances between the brands and which ones would work. So, it was just a matter of choosing the style I like and the one I thought was most comfortable. I was in and out of there in less than half and hour and I swear it must have been the first time in my life I had a bra that fit as it should. I could barely tell that I had one on and my clothes fit so much better. It is amazing how few gaps there are between buttons when you boobs are sitting where they are supposed to!

Anyway, it may be worth a call to a nearby doctor or hospital because I think a lot of them refer patients to these places when needed. I never knew this shop existed until someone I knew had a mastectomy and was referred there.

Great story! And also a great example of how some people are missing out on marketing opportunities! Why don't we know about these places!!

jawsmom, I was almost desperate enough to go to a place like that, I couldn't really AFFORD to, the bra's cost 50 dollars minimum. And if I had that money poking around, you betcha I woulda hit them up! There are a few places like that around here, I used to refer women there all the time.. I mean really, when you are a anything over a DD, you just can't find that in Victoria Secret type places..

When I worked in a plus size store (that sold bra's), we had SUCH a nasty selection of bra's, every once in a while the company would bring something good in... but that was rare. It's a missed market!

I'm glad you found a bra that fit you! I thought I was the only one who had the problem w/Lane Bryant bras--the underwire pops out to poke you all day, dulling a nerve in my arm & hurting, or they just snap one day. I will have to do it again soon, NOT looking forward to it.

Yeah for finding a bra.

My best ones right now are my old nursing bras that are almost 3 years old. I don't nurse anymore but they hold me up the best. Not sure what I'm going to do when these give out on me.
