Thank you everyone for your prayers. Heard from my mom a little while ago, they are safe, just indefinitely stranded.. so thankful but so scared that they're still in the midst of things. But they are well, and safe, and that is all I could hope to hear at this point.

ValRock and Krampus I am so relieved you ladies are safe! Sending prayers your way, please take care of yourselves! **hugs** I hope none of your family/friends have been affected too badly by this...

Tsunami warning is over here in Oregon so I imagine most of the west coast of the US is out of the woods. Not sure about Canada, I think I heard that it would get there later than here.

What unimaginable devastation. My thoughts and prayers to everyone.

At least one person is feared dead in CA after the tsunami swept into Crescent City...he was in a group of 4, 3 were rescued but he is still missing. Public Service Announcement - if you're under a tsunami warning, get AWAY from the coastline and do NOT attempt to stay to take video or photos. You endanger your own life and the lives of the crews who attempt to rescue you.

I just heard a news report...

Oregon: 5 swept to sea in a surge, 1 found dead, 2 found alive, 2 still missing
California: 7 swept to sea, 2 found dead, 1 found alive, 4 still missing

I think that is absolutely amazing that an earthquake 1/3+ a world away causes deaths here.

My thoughts are with anyone affected by this tragedy, I hope everyone will do their best to help Japan in their time of need, and anyone else affected.

I have been out most of today so I only knew about the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, not the tsunami alerts to America.

My brother and SIL were due to fly from Washington to NY then to Heathrow.

He phoned me at 1am Washington time, and said his flight to NY left at 6:30am.
I can't get through to him at the moment, but I'm hoping it's because he's flying.

Does anyone know whats happened on the West coast area, were flights cancelled or anything?
It would give me peace of mind to know they are safe and what is going on.

I think the warning was lifted here in California already. Its crazy how many people heard the warning and ignored it. People were on the beach jogging and taking pics!!
Some parents here were upset cause they wanted to take their daughter on the beach and the beaches were closed! They tried to argue with the police!!
Glad everyone is okay, and good thoughts for any who haven't heard back from friends or family.
If you can't call, try texting..a lot of times those go through when calls can't.

Relieved to hear that you all are safe. My heart bleeds for Japan, the immediate dangers they still face, and the long road to recovery that lies ahead.

My parents and younger brother currently live in Hawaii, and text messaging has been incredibly valuable to us in the past 48 hours. Not only have we been able to communicate with each other, but friends in Japan and some of the smaller island nations have been able to keep in contact when the voice services were unavailable.

To anyone in a warning/danger zone - please be safe. The positive vibes of thousands walk with you.

To those of us fortunate enough to be out of harm's way - take the extra moment to appreciate what you have. To hug a loved one, to kiss your spouse. We are incredibly fortunate to not be fighting for our lives...please, appreciate what you have.

I am just devastated by all of this . I spent the day collecting food and supplies for a Helo to take up to Miyagi Pf. I met so many people who were effected and had family who are effected. Please keep your thoughts with Japan. The people here need them.
