I'm so glad that you've had some positive dialogue. This is a big step in the right direction.

All the best to you and your honey as you work through this, and work through this you will.

I'm really happy to hear you had a productive and positive discussion about this. There is so much below the surface that isn't readily visible to most people, especially males who have never worried about weight or eating.

Hope things continue to improve between you two. They are looking bright now!

Great news!!! You're right it doesn't all get solved in a day, but definitely a good first step.

In reading this thread, I've learned a lot about the havoc deployment and return plays on so many lives... so proud of all of you, because that's tough!

Megan, I'm glad that you and your guy are working through this. Both of you are experiencing and adjusting to a great deal of change. I'm proud of both of you for beginning the dialogue in a positive manner. You are both bright, intelligent adults who really love each other. You will come out of this stronger as a couple.

Thanks again, everyone

We're still doing well. We're going out to dinner and a movie date tonight, and I get to pick the restaurant so I can get an on-plan meal (mmm...Applebees grilled shrimp skewers with double veggies!). He also made me dinner last night and had weighed and measured everything to figure out the calories. Yummy marinated steak with beets and steamed veggies/potatos.

And deployment is VERY hard. Missing them and living without them for a whole year is just half the story, really. The news shows these happy reunions in airports where everyone hugs and it's all romantic and stuff. And it is, but there's a lot more to it. A year is a long time to be apart with only a phone call or email every few days. Even though you still love each other immensely, you have to fall in love all over again and get to know each other. It's a very confusing swirl of emotions. Not to mention that when you are missing somebody for a year, you kind of formulate this glossy perfect memory of them with all their great qualities that you miss the most. Your brain tends to erase the fact that he leaves the door open so he can keep watching the game while he's pooping and never puts water in his dirty dishes and he's grumpy in the morning.

And carlyjordan, mine so gets in soldier mode too! Sometimes when gets home from work or gets off the phone with one of his guys or even if we're just working on getting something done he slips into the Captain mentality. His tone of voice, body language, etc changes, lol. Sometimes it offends me, but usually when he's barking out orders I just have to giggle and say "roger, sir" or tell him to buzz off.

Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled that I'm a soon-to-be Army wife. Deployments, among other things, are a bummer but I'm quite confident that I'm up for the challenges He's worth it....and it helps that he's so handsome in his uniform, haha.
