Deena, I was going to buy those for my fiance! He ended up quitting on his own after a really bad cold he got that I had brought home from work. He felt so horrible he couldn't smoke for once and he used it as leverage to quit.

I was gonna buy the ones from the commercial, but they look like tampons to me haha.

Hey guys!

Weight this am. 128.4 lbs. and have not smoked since August 27th!

Bummer news: I get my gum surgery (part 1 of 2) this Thursday (11/11)...and I'm already having major anxiety about it. I think he's also taking out the back teeth to replace with implants at the same time, also.

As if I'm not having enough difficulty chewing as it is.

Like I think I mentioned before....I have to credit my maintenance success, at least in large part, to this whole chewing problem and all the dental surgeries. Trying to eat is just a royal pain in the a**...I mean neck. Yeah, that's what I meant.

Back before the upper plate days, I would see something or think of something I might want and then eat it. Very problematic if you're not sticking to a specific eating plan. But now, I see something or think of something and then realize what a hassle it will be to try and chew it and just walk away. Or attempt to eat it and just give up. Totally out of habit for me normally.

And I think that this is the best I'm gonna get now, when it comes to chewing ability. Of course, that is gonna get even worse for a good while due to 2 upcoming gum and implant surgeries....but even when that chapter is finally done....I don't think I'm ever gonna be able to chew any better than I can now. I guess it's one of those things people don't talk about. I mean, who talks about dentures? And life with them? Or one of them, which is what I have.
And speaking of that, I suspect that many people with uppers and lowers often take them out and just eat without them....but when you have just one, and your own teeth on the other side, that won't work.

It's just weird, not having to focus on the whole maintenance eating plan because thanks to an upper plate, you just can't get enough calories in to gain, simply because you just can't chew enough of them. I basically do the maintenance because it's healthy (and because it keeps me from getting hungry all the time)...not so much to prevent weight gain. So far, the teeth seem to be taking care of that.

I'm not recommending anyone get an upper plate so they won't gain lost weight back, of course....but yeesh, who would have expected this?

I've been randomly posting all over the board here, on different topics and forums....but wow, there are so many new threads here that I want to read. Yesterday, I was over at the "introductions" area, reading several pages of new arrivals. And I noticed that there were a certain percentage who never returned, apparently....because their post count remained "1". And many of them were written by women who seemed quite unhappy and desperate about their weight situation.
I wondered what would cause someone who went to all the trouble to find this message board, to register and to write an introduction....and often a very soul-bearing one.....to disappear and never return? Even though they had gotten many "welcome" posts?

Being so familiar with the whole weight-loss struggle, I tend to think that most of them are situations where the person had gotten all revved-up and motivated, registered, started an eating plan.....and then evening hit and it all went downhill after that. And defeated, they did not return. A few of them, though, might return later...hopefully.....when they get all motivated again.

Which just goes to show you, I think, how the attitude and commitment affect the outcome so much. You at least have to make the commitment to keep coming here....even if you had a downhill eating day. Or you'll get caught in that endless spiral of starting diets every other day and then blowing them when evening comes. Excited...defeated...excited...defeated....not a great life to live.

OK...off to read some threads here......deena
